Two artist sisters completed the house in 2006 as an event/art retreat; creativity and comfort abound. Travertine countertops and tub surround, stained concrete floors (3 bedrooms are carpeted) mosaic details in kitchen and bathroom. Living room features a gorgeous natural limestone mosaic fireplace, vibrant colors and high beamed ceilings. Its comfortable beds and fully appointed kitchen, add to its abundant charm. Large porches front and back are the perfect place for soaking up nature, stargazing, enjoying watching the deer, dining outdoors and the ever present breeze.
Nearby the possibilities are endless! The Austin area has so much to offer- art and history museums, Wildflower Center, UT, the music scene (Austin is the live music capital of the world!), zip lines, Austin's amazing lakes (Lady Bird, Austin and Travis), Salt Lick BBQ and the Nutty Brown outdoor music venue are just down the road. The artsy town of Wimberly, wineries, outlet shopping, Fredericksburg, numerous music festivals, San Antonio and tubing on the Brazos River in Gruene are great day trips. Nice Stay in the Country
Nice Stay in the Country

My extended family of 10 stayed at Turtle Crow for a week in May. The house was just as shown online and provided plenty of room for all of us. The inside of the house was clean and had everything we needed. Some complained about there not being a TV in the living room (there is one upstairs), but I enjoy keeping away from the TV while on vacation. It should be noted that this house is really in the country. It is not far from anything and is not close to anything either, with the exception of Saltlick BBQ. There are country sized bugs outside including humongous grasshoppers and even a scorpion...very scary for a city girl. My only real complaint is that the pool was unusable during our stay. We were told by a neighbour that this was because a lot of rain had fallen that week. With that said, we would defintiely stay at Turtle Crow again. It was a nice country getaway and a great place to stay with a large family.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our family rented Turtle Crow as lodging for the immediate family over the extended weekend of our daughter's wedding which was held in Buda, Texas. The property was absolutely excellent as was all communication with the owners . There is no comparison in lodging in a real home versus several days in a boring and impersonal hotel room. The furnishings, bedding, kitchen amenities and art all provided an uplifting and comfortable respite from an otherwise hectic schedule over the 4-day period. The pool was a bonus feature which was much appreciated at the end of the long summer of heat and drought. The views from the front porch are actually better than a photo can do justice. We would, indeed, recommend the property to friends and family and will definitely plan another stay in the near future and for certain next year, as our son and his fiance are now planning their wedding for October 2012 at Chapel Dulcinea just up the road from Turtle Crow. Hope we can visit there even sooner than that ! Thanks again to the owners for their hospitality, good taste and judgment in creating such a welcoming property. Turtle Crow was a perfect spot for our family of six to stay during our Austin vacation. The house is beautiful, spacious and had everything we needed for our stay. The owners were so easy to work with and always responded very quickly to any question I had. Our family would definitely stay at Turtle Crow again during our next visit to Austin.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We spent a wonderful few days in this uniquely decorated home. It was beautifully clean and comfortable - with all we needed (even a tea pot and strainer which is high on the list for we Brits!). Elaine and Pamela were great at communicating with us and very accomodating in allowing us a last minute let. We loved the peaceful location - great wildlife, beautiful views and yet easy access to Austin and a straight run to Fredericksberg. It was lovely to see so many local vineyards and to try the infamous Saltlick barbecue - delicious!! The pool was a great asset for the children. In the words of our 3 year old as it dawned on her that we were leaving - I want to live here for ever and ever! Thank you - we will be recommending Turtle Crow to our friends and hope to return!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We had seven women descend on Turtle Crow for a Book Club Retreat May 13-15, 2011. The property was just beautiful and the weather could not have been better. Turtle Crow sits up on a hill, so there was always a breeze. We sat on the porch both evenings and had to wrap up in blankets. Just lovely. We were concerned at first that it would be far away from Austin, and while it is definitely a secluded place for a true retreat, three of us drove into Austin on Saturday to attend a book reading, have a drink at the Driskell Hotel and eat lunch at the fabulous "food trailers" on S. Congress Avenue. The shops on S. Congress are funky fun, too! The other four ladies chose to drive to Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower park and take in all the natural beauty of the area. Then they visited the nearby Hindu Ashram (I can't recall the name of it). They are already suggesting another retreat at the Ashram! The house itself was great - very eclectic. Everyone had their own bed and it was no problem sharing the 2.5 baths. The kitchen was well stocked with the usual pots, pans, etc., and place settings for eight. We cooked four meals over the weekend and lacked for nothing. It is a place to go when you just need to get away, or a peaceful place to start from, if you want to venture out into Austin and the surrounding area. We highly recommend it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My girlfriends and I (10 total... slept very comfortably! 6 twin beds, 1 queen, 1 king) came here for a fun weekend retreat. The house is beautifully decorated and amply stocked with everything you'll need, except food. Close to hiking trails and kayaking, close enough to Austin for a night out, but far enough away that you're away from all the people. The kitchen is full of everything if you want to cook, two full bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, plenty of towels and sheets too. I highly recommend Turtle Crow!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We had such a beautiful wedding reception here after the wedding renewal at Chapel Dulcinea down the street. It was festive and beautiful with a catered BBQ by the Salt Lick just down the highway!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: As artist sisters we had always dreamed about having a place to get away and 'create'. In addition, we grew up in Texas having had a family retreat so we thought it would be nice for our families to have one as well. We started our search for the perfect place, soon realizing that to get exactly what we wanted we would need to have it built. This beautiful hilltop surrounded by 5 acres was just what we had envisioned so we then started drawing up the house plans. Most of the details, the concrete stained floors, the mosaic backsplashes and all the decorating were completed by the two of us. We had so much fun with the process and now would like to share it with you!
Why the Owner Chose Other Austin Properties:
As sisters who live a thousand miles apart, we wanted a convenient place for our extended families to gather and for us to hold art and scrap booking retreats. It's close enough to town but you would never know that once you are settled in, surrounded by beautiful live oaks and watching the deer wander through our 5 acres. We have celebrated weddings, showers, birthdays and holidays here with friends and family creating wonderful memories.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Driving up the hill on the long winding driveway you just feel a sense of relaxation surrounding you. Whether it is a beautiful clear day, a driving rainstorm or a star and moon filled sky, it is magic to sit on the front covered porch and enjoy the view. After a nice long walk it is so refreshing to swim a few laps in the 40' lap pool. At times I love to crank up the music and be creative, whether that means doing artwork or cooking. We also love playing games, reading and occasionally watching a movie - all the fun activities that seem to be forgotten at home where all the chores seem to be constantly calling us!
