Montepulciano house description
Casina Pellegrino - Tuscan Villa.
A charming three tier house nestled in the sun kissed hills of Montepulciano, Italy. It sits right outside the Medieval City Walls in a perfect location as it is 2 minutes walking distance from the Downtown Area and boasts impressive views of Olive groves and vineyards from its balcony and large terraces.
Imagine waking up to breathtaking views of the Tuscan hill country from your private balcony or window. Open the French doors leading to the large terrace where you can enjoy breakfast lunch and dinner at your own pace. Appreciate the local wine, olive oil, bread and cheese. Lounge under the Tuscan sun, on a comfortable chaise with a glass of wine in your hand overlooking the 3 nearby lakes shining in the distance. Walk over to the medieval town center and visit the 16th century monuments, local specialty shops, sit in the main square to drink an Italian Espresso and listen to a free classical music concert. On your way back home, indulge in a homemade Gelato.
The house is big enough to accommodate and sleep up to 10 people comfortably. It is fully renovated with modern amenities, includes 2 separate full bathrooms, including a bathtub with view over the hills. In a town where parking is scarce and comes at a premium, you will be able to park 2 cars in dedicated spots in front of the house. The kitchen is fully equipped and allows you to cook fresh meals using local ingredients from the farmers market. Or if you want, visit one of the many restaurants nearby and sample some delicious 'Pici' a tuscan specialty.
Montepulciano, located right in the middle of the Tuscan Region, is an important medieval and Renaissance hill town in the province of Siena. With its elevation of 2000 feet and surrounded by Olive groves and Vineyards, it provides an amazing combination of views, world renowned wines, culinary experiences and rich history. The town is located 45 minutes away from Siena, an hour and a half from Florence and two hours away from Rome.
**Seasoned travelers tip:
Many turists come to Italy each year but only a few Insiders understand Montepulciano is the perfect location because it is central and so close to many big cities and popular places in and even outside of Tuscany! It is quaint enough however, to give a true and very authentic experience of what Italy stands for: Food, Wine, Beauty, History, Basking Sun and some definitely fun and very welcoming people!
To truly experience and enjoy this country it is best to Rent a Car and use Montepulciano as a base from which to organize day trips to the most popular cities: Florence, Rome, Siena, etc. U will not only wake up to unparalleled views from the spacious house an get a lot more for your money but you will also avoid the hustle and bustle of the big metro areas. So, Instead come and enjoy the dolce vita (sweet life) in a peaceful and traditional italian town that has served as background to many popular movies (Under the Tuscan Sun, The Twilight saga, Letters to Juliet, English Patient and more.) From the you can walk to many historical markers and enjoy the day at your own pace or simply take the car and do a scenic drive on to the next cute town of Pienza, visit a castle in Montichiello or go vineyard hopping for example. There are so many options you can choose from, that is why Montepulciano and Casina Pellegrino, offer you the best of Italy no doubt.

Wonderful Italian Holidays!
Wonderful Italian Holidays!
Montepulciano is ideally located in Tuscany. Thanks to the central location of this charming medieval village, we managed to visit lots of beautiful cities in Italy like Pienza, Sienna, Firenze, San Gimignago and even Castiglione della Pescaia, near the sea. The Casina was a wonderful home away from home for my friends and I during this 2-week vacation: conveniently located in Montepulciano, the house was spacious, very confortable, equipped with modern furniture but with the charm of a traditional Italian house. We enjoyed very much the very large kitchen and living room, the confortable rooms and the beautiful postcard views from the terrace. The owners have been extremely kind and helpful, sending plenty of recommandations so that we can visit the best (restaurants, vineyards, etc) in the area, and making our Italian hollidays wonderful ones. We will definitly recommend the Casina to our friends and family!

A Wonderful Tuscan Experience
A Wonderful Tuscan Experience
This lovely Casa is situated in a beautiful part of the world. We climbed the stairs to Montepulciano every day and we voted it the very best of all the hill towns we visited. The balcony was made for lunching on the local produce from the markets and quaffing the sublime red wine (no preservatives so no sore heads the next day). The views of the countryside from the balconies are brilliant; sometimes I had to remind myself that it was real and not a photograph. Erika, the owner, steered us in the right direction with her many tips and suggestions. I will certainly be recommending this house to all my friends. Liz

We had an amazing time at Casa Pellegrino. The house is just as it's described on VRBO. The house is situated right across the road from the main Montepulciano city steps - it's a perfect location because you get great views from the house and you're within a 1-2 minute walk to the city. The deck / patio is a great place to spend the late afternoon / early evening and enjoy a glass of wine that you procured during your Montepulciano wine tasting. Parking is really easy at the house and I highly recommend having access to a car so that it's easy to enjoy other parts of the region.

Best part of 3 week Italy trip
Best part of 3 week Italy trip
First, Montepulciano is a beautiful little town with plenty of shops and restaurants. Our children said it was the best place we visited among Milan, Venice, Florence, and Rome. They loved how clean and safe it was and they enjoyed being somewhere it was a little slower paced. Driving was easy in the area and the drive from Florence was an easy trip. We had no problem with the roads in Italy. You will need a car to explore and to get to the town. Things you should know about the property: It's larger than the pictures and you could easily have 8 people stay in the property. The house is clean and very livable. It has a washer for clothes but no dryer. There is a clothes rack for drying clothes, which worked fine for us. There was plenty of dishes and pots and pans for our use. The owner was very helpful in getting us information about the property and the town. We visited most of the places recommended and enjoyed them all. The property has several decks that have wonderful views. Overall we loved the place and would come back. There are two negatives. First, the mosquitoes were swarming every night. We had no idea that they were such a problem. Second, the property is at the bottom of the town which is built on a hill, which means that you are walking uphill everywhere you want to go. This wasn't such a big deal for us as we are all used to walking but could be a problem for small children or elderly people. We would recommend the property and we look forward to visiting again in the future!

Owner response: Ciao Angela, Thank you so much for taking the time:) We loved having you as guests and are happy to hear you enjoyed your time - despite mosquitos (we actually have some wall plaques that you can insert to fend them off at night but I agree with you - I hate the blood suckers too, so we will certainly look into finding a better solution next time we go so we can make our guests more comfortable in the future) We hope Montepulciano (and the Casina) will see you back again one day Ci vediamo The Pellegrinos
Miss it already!
Miss it already!
We couldn't have picked a better place for our week in Tuscany! We were 2 families with a total of 4 teens and wanted a place where the kids were safe to wander a bit. Many of the properties we looked at were a car ride away from the nearest village - so we were thrilled to find the casina. Its location could not have been more perfect! It's a lovely (breathtaking views!) 5 minute walk up stairs to the beautiful main piazza (yes, the one where the Twilight movie was filmed) of Montepulciano. Also, there's room to park 2 cars (something I did not fully appreciate until I visited Cortona, Orvieto and some of the other hill towns of Tuscany - this is very rare, folks!) and you need a car to see Tuscany, in my opinion. Erika was extremely helpful and welcoming. She answered tons of questions and provided so many suggestions and great recommendations. We ate at each of the restaurants she recommended and read "At Least You're In Tuscany" by New Yorker turned "Italian in training" Jennifer Criswell. Loved it - reading the book added so much to our appreciation of the area. Then we visited the winery where Jenny works (also per Erika's suggestion) and got to meet her, tour the winery, sample wine, and get autographed copies of her book. Such an amazing experience! Montepulciano is a beautiful town and made a convenient base for day trips. We visited Florence, Sienna, Cortona and Chiusi (none more than 2 hrs away). And we were always glad to return to the casina at the end of the day. It's well appointed with comfortable beds and an open plan kitchen/living area. And the views! Our favorite spot was the deck with its sweeping views of the hills of Tuscany - it's even more beautiful than the pictures! Our teens sunned and read on the lower patio as well. The people of Montepulciano were very friendly and welcoming. We fell in love with the sculpture and paintings of Claudio Nicoli (his gallery is just off the main piazza) and were charmed by the sculptor's wife, Patrizia. We couldn't have asked for a better experience in Tuscany. Miss it already and dreaming of returning!

Owner response: Ciao Krista! Grazie Mille :) for your wonderful review and candid note about the house and the town. It is best described thru the words of our guests because of course I am biased - I love Montepulciano, the wonderful people we are so so lucky to call our friends and neighbors and, of course, our small piece of heaven - the Casina. So I am always very excited to hear when our guests enjoyed it as much as we do. We sure hope to have you and your family back one day and wish you the best. PS: Montepulciano misses you too already....and remember the phrase "at least you are in Tuscany" ;) Ciao Erika
Lovely Tuscan family sized house
Lovely Tuscan family sized house
This fall we rented this house for two months, just outside the walls of Montepulciano one of our favorite Tuscan Hill towns. The house is much bigger than we expected from our years of Italian traveling and the advantage of having parking is a plus. The views are spactacular and all of our guests just loved sitting out on the decks and drinking in the scenery along with copious amounts of Vino Nobile. Pros: 1. Just outside the side gate of the city. An easy stagger distance from the restaurants and bars in the town. No need to risk driving drunk. 2. Montepulciano is centrally located to many of the best places in Tuscany. 3. The views are great from the balconies and decks. 4. The house is fairly new so most utilities actually work. This is unusual for Italy for those that have not been there. 5. Room for 10 guests. 6. Washing machine 7. The Thursday market down by the bus station is nice. 8. Food markets within a reasonable waking distance. Returning all uphill of course. 9. Erika is a good person to rent from. Cons: 1. The house is between the ring road and the bus route. Our guests had few problems but after two months we got tired of sitting out on the deck and listing to buses from the front street and motorcycles and trucks from below. If you want quiet do one of the Agro Turismo’s outside of town. The problem then is walking access to the great city of Montepulciano. 2. Italian bathroom design. The upstairs bathroom is fine but the downstairs bathroom is way too narrow. The room it is in could easily lose the extra space to allow entering the toilet area without turning sideways or bumping your head on the hot water heater when getting up from the toilet. 3. The house is very comfortable for 6 guests but 10 guests uses all of the living space. Ok for children but not so good for adults. 4. It is not really handicapped accessible nor is the town. 5. The lower deck was not usable many times due to the heavy sewer smell that would cover that area of the property. I would definitely rent this again even with the cons as it is right outside this lovely town that has everything anyone wants from a Tuscan hill town. Enjoy!

Owner response: Ciao again :) I finally got access to respond back on reviews, so I am very excited to do so even after such a long while. On a positive note, at least this also allowed me to provide an update on one of the notes you mentioned (*the sewer smell) - We have no idea where that was coming from since every time we have been there it was probably on colder months and it has not been an issue - we did however on our last trip (this February thru May 2013) buy a sewage odor filtering system and with permission of our wonderful neighbor (where the tube is actually located) got it installed so it takes care of odors as a preventive measure :) -- On a similar note - We personally have never spent the summer months in Montepulciano so it seems the noise level you describe from the streets might be due to the increase of tourists passing through. Buses do often bring in heaves of people for the day and are gone by nighttime. I can see this might become pretty annoying after a long period of time or perhaps we are just used to it and have tuned it off as part of living in a gorgeous town (that is otherwise so tranquil) and that just attracts so many people to it.Thank you once again for your candid words, the wonderful extensive review with a lot of details that allow people to have a better picture and above all for choosing the Casina. We would be delighted to have you and your family back one day. All the best :) Erika
We had 2 families of 4 stay at this beautiful property. It was well appointed, newly furnished and spacious. The location was just a short walk to the town and the views were amazing. The owner's recommendations on the area's food, restaurants and nearby points of interest were perfect. We sat for hours on the balconies drinking Vino Nobile and eating Pecorino cheese. Montepulciano is located in an ideal location in the heart of the wine and olive oil countryside. We took easy day trips to nearby Florence, Pienza, Sienna, Cortona and local vineyards. We also took an amazing pasta cooking class in the heart of the Montepulciano town center. We can't wait to get back!

In the heart of the Toscana
In the heart of the Toscana
My husband and I spent a fabulous week here in spring with our baby daughter. Montepulciano, in addition to boasting its own beautiful medieval architecture and oozing Italian charm, is nestled in the rolling Tuscan wine country, in close proximity to many famous sites. We were able to organise numerous day trips from the apartment to Orvieto, Sienna, Florence and Pienza, and spent many hours tasting the wines of the region, with a dozen vineries at our doorstep. The apartment is newly renovated with nice, soft furnishings. Though we were only three, we had friends come visit, with the apartment having ample space and amenities to accommodate up to 10 people. Prior to arrival the owner gave us a list of places to see and insider tips for restaurants/vineries/etc. - she was very helpful and ensured that we got the most out of our week. All around this was the best holiday home that I have rented over the years, as we found ourselves torn between staying home, relaxing on our own balcony with a bottle of local wine and cheese, to hopping in our car and exploring the region. I highly recommend this home for a family or group of friends looking to get immersed in all that is Tuscany!!!
