Bear Paw is located at the Southeast edge of North Carolina, we are a bit of hidden gem. Hiwassee lake gets very little boat traffic, being 20 miles long there are plenty of secluded coves to enjoy. We are on Southern end of the Smokey Mountains, from Bear Paw you can take a beautiful scenic drive to Tellico then take the Cherohala Skyway (our southern Blueridge Parkway) over to Robbinsville and Lake Santeetlah, then take Hwy 129 down to Lake Calderwood and see where the movie The Fugitive was filmed. From there you can take Hwy 28 up around Lake Fontana then either up to Bryson City, Cherokee or drive south on Hwy 74 through the Nantahala Gorge and watch kayakers run the rapids. If you want to join in they offer rafting at the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC). I highly recommend eating at the restaurant there that hangs over the river. On the way back towards Bear Paw you will pass through Andrews and Murphy. Murphy is a really cool mountain town which is situated right where the Hiwassee and the Valley Rivers come together. There are plenty of places to shop and eat in downtown Murphy. Twenty minutes outside of Murphy on Hwy 64 you can visit the John C Campbell folk school where you can take classes to make all kinds of things or you can buy things that student made. This make for a full day of sightseeing....morecollapse

Lovely area. The home is comfortable and beautiful. Great kitchen for cooking and visiting! We kept a fire going in the wood burning fireplace. Wake up in the morning and shower in either bathroom... very large shower and extra large tub.... and HEATED FLOORS where amazing. There is a huge room downstairs with bumper pool (kids loved it!). We ended several nights watching a movie (lots of movies to choose from) and feels like your in a theater. So much fun! We will be back! We also went out on the lake, caught a few fish and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. We also went exploring in the area. There is a great place near the dam to fish and picnic. One day we went into Murphy. There are great shops to look in and several places to eat. Wonderful get away. Recommend it for a couples trip or bring the entire family.

SPENT THANKSGIVING HERE WITH MY BROTHER AND FAMILY FROM ALABAMA. PROPERTY WAS ALL IT WAS DESCRIBED TO BE, AND MORE. THE 5 PICTURES IN THIS ADD ARE JUST "THE TIP OF THE ICE BURG". ENJOYED WATCHING THE SUN COME UP EACH MORNING OVER THE MOUNTAINS AND ACROSS THE LAKE. WE COOKED OUR ENTIRE THANKSGIVING DINNER HERE, IN A VERY WELL STOCKED KITCHEN. THE GAME ROOM WAS A FAVORITE WITH OUR KIDS (AGES 5-21), AND WE ALL ENJOYED WATCHING THE "IRON BOWL" ON THE 55" FLAT SCREEN. THIS PROPERTY WAS CLEAN AND WELL EQUIPPED FROM LAUNDRY AND LINENS, TO COOKWARE AND DISHES, TO GAMES AND BOOKS, TO VIEWS AND RELAXING PORCHES. GREAT LOW TRAFFIC NEIGHBORHOOD FOR WALKING, BUT EXPECT TO GET YOUR EXERCISE! WE DISCOVERED GREAT PICNICING AVAILABLE AT THE NEARBY HIAWASSEE DAM. WE ALSO ENJOYED A LATE MORNING AT "FIELD OF THE WOODS" (ALL 346 STEPS ON ONE SIDE AND 316 ON THE OTHER). SOME MORE GREAT EXERCISE! WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PROPERTY TO ALL WHO ARE SEEKING A QUIET GET-A-WAY WITH WONDERFUL AMMENITIES. WE WILL BE BACK!

The property is beautiful with everything we were looking for plus more. We loved the outdoor living area overlooking the lake and mountains. I confess that it was very easy to doze off there. There is plenty of room to spread out and read, take a nap, or watch a movie on the entertainment center downstairs. We did not want to leave and plan to definitely return next year.

                          Owner info

                          Year Purchased: 2010

About the owner: I grew up in Chattanooga mostly. After college I moved to Roswell Georgia and remained there until about five years ago when I moved to Mooresville North Carolina. I moved back to Chattanooga a year ago. I have been in the building business for most of my life. I started when I was ten when I would stay with my Grandfather for the summer, he bought and remodeled house. Unfortunately he died when I was just 13 but the seed was planted.

Why the Owner Chose Lake Hiwassee:
I built this property in 2010. It was a plan that I found in Coastal Living Magazine. I have always liked the coastal style and don't know why more people don't build those plans in the mountains.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The whole house is pretty unique. There are six floor to ceiling windows in the main living area that makes you feel like your outdoors. The indoor level is two feet higher than the deck so the deck doesn't block the view.I built a large Rumford style wood-burning fireplace which feels more like a campfire. There is a 'Crowes Nest' (tower) with unique staggered stairs with great views of the lake and mountains. I built a real cook's kitchen with Dacor gas cooktop and Dacor convection oven. The lower level has a game table, bumper pool and 55' theater monitor and surround sound. The covered wrap around porch has plenty of room for eating and lounging.
