We just spent a very enjoyable weekend at the Landhaus. The house was spotless and the property was located close to the main road but it still felt like you were in the middle of the forest. The house was well equipped with kitchen supplies, glasses, towels, bedding, and games. One of the best we've stayed in. The little sleeping cabins were cozy and charming. Our only difficulty was having one bathroom for 8 people, but we knew that going in. Close to Oyster beaches in Quilcene and Finnriver farm for cider tasting. Both the check in and check out process were seamless.

We've spent a couple of weekends at this gorgeous country house. Tucked away in the forest off the main road, the house provides a unique wooded retreat but with all the modern amenities. We are particularly impressed by the screened in porch, perfect for reading, conversation, or a long summer nap. The rooms are exquisitely decorated but also with a sense of humor. The large wooden carved moose head is one detail not to be missed. Since our first visit, they've also installed a large screen TV and now have high speed internet access. The kitchen is fully appointed with and all the appliances have been updated. Really, it's just like coming home. The proximity to hiking and other outdoor activities as well as the thriving cultural center of Port Townsend means that there's something for everyone. The owners are extremely gracious hosts and the premises have always been in impeccable condition. The listing photos in this case are spot on, and if anything under-represent the beauty of the locale. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for an escape to the Olympic peninsula.

I am a veteran user of vrbo properties from Florida, California, Hawaii, and now Washington. My husband vets and sele ts our rentals and we have satisfied with almost all of the accommodations. This place was very special and is the first time I have submitted a rating. It was more beautiful than anticipated, well appointed furnishings and art, and clean. I would recommend this place to family and friends. Really enjoyed eating locally grown products such as cider, yamma yamma oysters, port Townsend bread and cheese. Was able to enjoy these things because of the literature provided by the home owners. My dog loved the place especially out early morning walk along the nature trail created by the owners. So happy we stayed there instead of Hood.

When I first viewed this rental I wondered if it was too good to be true. Absolutely not. It was so true to the description and better!! It was so peaceful and gorgeous. The walking trail was lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed the firepit while basking in the full moon. There was plenty of firewood and the piano was such an added bonus. Thank you. A+

Main cabin and guest cabins are private and delightfully decorated. Owners are great to work with, dogs and kids welcome, and location has great access to the peninsula. Definitely recommended.

Very impressive VRBO! A discerning touch was evident in the cleanliness and the attention to detail in this beautiful cabin. Every wall hanging, candle holder, pillow cover and cupboard handle seemed considered and hand picked. We enjoyed laying in the manicured lawn beneath soaring trees with not a neighbor in site. We enjoyed candlelight evenings and bright morning breakfasts on the sun porch. The prepared folder of area hikes and brochures along with the ONP guidebooks were especially helpful to planning our day trips. This is beautiful country. I would certainly recommend this rental to a friend and would book far in advance to assure it was available for our next trip.

From the moment we entered the property, we knew we had found precisely what we needed, a retreat from the digital world. The owner's care and attention in advance of our visit made us feel like honored guests. A generous and trusting spirit permeated the Landhaus. We were delighted at every turn, from the detailed area maps, abundant linens, cleanliness, comfort and amazing location to the welcoming touches like a whimsical bat sculpture on the patio and a cuckoo clock in the living room. Everything added up to one of ourmost memorable vacations. A truly special host and a truly special home. We are already planning our next visit.

What a jewel! A very comfortable, but rustic-looking cabin on a gloriously private lot with serene views. The kitchen is very well appointed, so meals were easy to prepare. We especially appreciated the charcoal grills for easy dinners on the deck under the stars. Available wi-fi meant we were never too far out-of-touch. Just 3 miles away from the Olympic Music Festival in summer, and a short drive to other fun outdoor activities all year 'round. Many areas to explore nearby, or you can just enjoy the silence at the Landhaus.

I have stayed at this cabin a couple of times. Both visits have been as part of a group of between 6 & 8 guests and both times have been in the summer months. Getting to the cabin from Seattle is pretty easy and from the moment I get on the ferry for the trip across to the peninsula, I can feel the stress of the workweek fade away as the journey across the water begins and the city recedes in the distance. The cabin is set off of a winding lane in a bucolic forested setting. Once you enter the property through a pair of large wooden gates, the cabin reveals itself as well as the inviting view of the surrounding woodlands. On each visit, I have slept in the smaller cabins. My favorite is the sleeping cabin located off a short walking trail. It is very secluded from the action happening in the main cabin, so it's the perfect spot to slip away for a quiet afternoon nap or to sit on the porch and read a book while listening to the birds. Some of the other reviews on here have mentioned the personal touches the owner has decorated the place with. My favorites include the stone vessel sink in the bathroom, the stylized carvings that hang majestically in the main living room, the piano, the traditional stained glass European lamps, and the Mission style candle chandelier. These elements all come together in the living room that help to create a magical nighttime space perfect for intimate conversations and laughter. It's usually been sunny when I've visited, although one morning it rained and it was so nice to sit in the comfy chairs in the indoor/outdoor room and listen to the rain and smell the evergreens. On my last visit, I visited some friends in nearby Port Ludlow. On that day, there was a little crafts market located by the shopping village. And I'm still kicking myself for not buying a couple of adorable cupcake candles that were so realistic, I wanted to take a bite. There is so much charm in this part of the Olympic Peninsula and this cabin makes a great home-base or jumping-off point for hiking and great local food. Speaking of food, if you're a bbq lover, check out Mike's Four Star BBQ in historic Port Gamble. Or better yet, pick up some pulled pork/pulled chicken and head back to the cabin for a relaxing dinner on the deck with a glass of wine and watch the sunset. Perfect Weekend.

Owner response: Thank you very much for your nice description and we are glad you enjoyed your stay both times you visited. I need to find those cupcake candles for the Landhaus, thanks for the tip!

The cabin itself is very well appointed, with lots of personal touches - no doubt from the owners themselves. The cabin is very clean, well equipped and nestled in a secluded, wooded spot not far from Port Townsend, Port Gamble and Hood Canal. The two guest cabins are adorable and very comfortable! They would make great meditation spots. There is a little trail that goes along the edge of the property and a nice bench, also a potential great meditation spot. I loved the covered porch - that was a very pleasant surprise. We enjoyed the view from this lovely spot, unmolested by mosquitos. It's a nice place to sleep too - as the cool breezes come right in and the sound of the frogs lulls you to sleep. I've stayed in many rental homes all over the US and this house is one of the nicest I've been in. One unexpected bonus - the owners have left a notebook filled with information about the cabin and all the wonderful things you can do in the area (hikes, including maps, restaurants, etc.). If you like the Port Townsend area and would like a peaceful place to stay, this is your place.

Owner response: Thank you for pointing out the various potential meditation spots on the property. The stone bench overlooking the Dabob valley is definitly my personal favorite as well, as you are surrounded by nature and only hear the birds and the wind. We hope to have you back soon and are glad you enjoyed your stay.

              Owner info

              Year Purchased: 2005

About the owner: Hi, my name is Jochen and I am the owner of Landhaus Quilcene. Originally from Germany, I have called the Seattle area home for over twenty years now. I have created this private forest retreat for my family and friends in the German Landhaus ('country house') tradition. When time allows, we come here to relax, talk, play games, sit by the fire, watch a movie, go hiking, explore nearby towns, and, above all, forget the stress of the work week. Since my family and I are using the Landhaus frequently ourselves, we have taken great care of maintaining and decorating it to make everyone feel welcome and create a great experience in the country.

              Why the Owner Chose Quilcene:
Everybody who has stayed here always had a great time and mentions how relaxed they felt afterwards due to the serene forest setting and fresh air. Many of our guests have come back year after year and our guest book is full with nothing but compliments and people's fond memories of the time they spent here.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
All guests love our screened and covered sun porch that allows them to sit outside and enjoy the nature views of the surrounding forest and Dabob valley even if it should rain. A quartz heater provides warmth outside when the temperatures drop. The two adjacent heated guest cabins are very cozy and afford their residents a lot of privacy while being only steps away from the main house.
