Maison des Remparts, is located on the old fortified village wall that once encircled Caunes-Minervois. This 150-year-old village house has been tastefully renovated and filled with antiques.
The house was renovated by French artisans using local materials, with antique tiles, doors, and fixtures throughout, but with modern central heating and plumbing. Antiques decorate every room, and there are exposed wooden beams in the ceilings.
Beds have duvets and French linens. The well equipped gourmet kitchen has an antique vigneron (winemaker) table, and leads outside to the kitchen terrace with a dipping pool or to the adjacent dining room.
There are three terrces for outdoor living and dining. In June 2004 we installed a dipping pool cum fountain. The lion head came from an antique market in Béziers and the border tiles were handmade by a local potter in Caunes. Bring your laptop and stay in touch with friends and family. We have an ADSL Broadband wireless gateway to make connection to the Internet and your e-mail easier and faster than ever.
Fully equipped central heat and ceiling fans, dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer, music sound system with CD's, satellite TV with DVD Player and DVD's (code one and two ), telephone with answering machine, ADSL high speed internet hookup with computer printer, barbeque, fine french linens and towels provided with house, two hair dryers.
This is not the typical house rental. It is our second home and has many amenities.
Three bedrooms (sleeps five comfortably): one queen bed; two twins that can be made into a queen bed and one twin bed. Three bathrooms plus water closet (two full bathrooms with showers, one bathroom with tub and sink only, one water closet with toilet and sink).
Professional gourmet kitchen. Dining room with seating for eight to ten and also outdoor dining tables. Sitting room "snug" with fireplace. Three terraces with views of village gardens, vines and the rooftops and a peek of the 12th century abbey.
We chose a village house because we wanted to become a part of the French village life. Rather than staying in a fancy tourist resort, become a part of a village for a week or more. Buy your daily baguette at one of the two bakeries, shop at the village truck market twice a week, have a drink at one of the two cafes or dine at the Hotel D'Alibert in Caunes.
Near Caunes there are many day adventures such as wine tasting, walking tours, cave visits, half day barge tours, horseback riding, visits to historic sites, but experiencing village life may be the most memorable. |
