"We love nothing more than relaxing on the deck or screened porch of StarGazer Lodge on a pleasant evening and trying to count the stars. We always lose count long before we're done."
If wonderful views and luxuriously appointed accommodations are what you seek, look no further than StarGazer Lodge. Situated above the trees in the gated mountain community of Big Canoe, the house engulfs you in comfort the moment you walk in the front door. As you enter, you are greeted by a massive great room with a huge wall of windows and views that stretch back to Atlanta. As you take in the view, you will find that your entire body relaxes a bit and you are reminded why you have chosen to be here, not there. In addition to the wonderful views, the main floor great room boasts a stacked stone fireplace alongside a fabulous leather seating area. The room also has a large table to seat up to eight and a chef's kitchen featuring granite on countertops and island. The kitchen is well stocked with everything the visiting chef will need to prepare a wonderful meal including a Cuisinart food processor, Kitchenaid Stand Mixer, an excellent blender, and all the cookware, bakeware, and serving pieces to host an elegant meal.
Just off the great room, the beautiful master suite is truly a retreat of its own. With french doors that open onto the screened porch, the already spacious bedroom doubles in size by bringing the outdoors in. All bedrooms at StarGazer Lodge are king-sized and fitted with 400-thread count linens. The master also has a 37-inch Sharp LCD TV with satellite and DVD. The master bath, yet another oasis unto itself, has an oversized garden tub and separate tiled shower with glass surround. Featuring twin vanities opposite each other, the master bath also boasts a huge window overlooking the mountainside. Beyond the bath, the master closet is almost its own room and has plenty of room for all your luggage to be tucked discretely out of view.
The screened porch has a doorway from the great room as well and is furnished with beautiful teak furniture. It opens to an expansive deck with large dining table and gas grill. You can sit out there are watch the sun coming up, the sun going down, all the fabulous stars at night as well as the twinkling lights in the distance. Your stargazing pursuits are assisted by an electronic digital telescope for bringing the moon and stars even closer than they already are. During the day, watch the birds fly right by you and perch in the tops of trees, right at eye level.
Upstairs at StarGazer is a large family room/media room with a Sony 57-inch HDTV with satellite and DVD. There are over 300 DVD's to choose from and a closet full of board games for family fun. In addition to amazingly comfortable sofas for TV viewing, the room has a great gaming table for intense competition or reading a good book. The entire house boasts wireless DSL so, if you have a laptop with a wireless card, you can use the internet anywhere you like. The media room also has a large wall of windows with fantastic views of the mountains all around. Off the media room are two large bedrooms (no need to fight, all rooms have brand new Stearns and Fosters king-size beds) w/bath. Both rooms have wonderful views.
On its own deck off the laundry room is a top of the line hot tub that seats five. Downstairs in the unfinished basement, a complete game room is available for your entertainment. A pool table, foosball, darts, and table tennis provide even more fun without ever leaving the house and will make you want to stay an extra day... or even two. The basement also has a large deck just outside for relaxing.
If you ever do decide to leave the house, the resort community of Big Canoe has much to offer. In addition to 15 miles of hiking trails past beautiful waterfalls and gorgeous nature, Big Canoe has 27-hole golf course that is truly a scenic wonder. With both indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a state-of-the-art fitness center with racquet ball and complete day spa, the adults will have plenty to do while the kids enjoy the Swim Club. One of Big Canoe's most popular amenities, the Swim Club provides an indoor Olympic-size pool, an outdoor pool overlooking the lake, and swimming, beach volleyball, paddleboats, and a rock slide into Lake Disharoon.
If the family chef needs a break, Big Canoe has several dining options to meet your needs. Appalachia Grill, just outside the gates of Big Canoe, is a wonderful dinner option with a full bar and great wine list as well as a wide-ranging menu with something for everyone. It is definitely our top recommendation for dining out! In addition, Lake Sconti Restaurant at the Golf Club serves dinner several nights a week and a champagne brunch on Sunday. For Italian, Piazza is in the heart of Big Canoe at Wolfscratch Village and Trevi Pizzaria is located just a short distance from the gate. Also near Trevi is Fireside Cafe and Pub serving New American fare within an upscale pub atmosphere.
No matter what activities you choose for your Big Canoe vacation, StarGazer Lodge will win your heart and you will want to visit again and again. If you have a larger group, the house can be rented in conjunction with Mountain Zen across the street to accommodate groups of up to 16.

"Stargazer Lodge" Amazing Home Above it All - Views for Miles
Why the Owner Chose Big Canoe
Big Canoe really is such a beautiful place. Its the perfect combination of privacy and nature, but at the same time you won't feel like you are in the middle of the woods all alone. There is so much to do from fishing, swimming, canoeing, golfing, and my two favorites..hiking and eating out.
Owner's Map of Big Canoe
Hi, I am Mark. I love to travel just like you probably do. I feel so lucky and blessed to own this beautiful home and even luckier to get to share it with you. I am involved in real estate (own and rent long and short term rentals) and my main role is as a handy man. Its a good thing that I am so handy and love to fix things and paint!
My favorite thing is getting to stay at the cabin after some guests have left and reading all the kind, and amazing comments left in the guest book. It feels really good to know that I have brought a little joy and happiness to others!!

This is our second time at Stargazer Lodge and we have loved every second! The kitchen is well stocked with everything that we needed to whip up gourmet meals. Stargazer lodge is 100 times better in person than in the photos. It is truly a luxury rental with a stellar view and great hiking close by. Mark was easy to deal with and very responsive to all of our questions and needs. We shall return.

We had a great weekend stay at the StarGazer! The house was exactly as pictured on the web site. It was quiet, serene and the perfect getaway from the city - just what we needed! The kitchen had all you needed and the basement had a pool table, ping pong table and a foos ball table! It was relaxing and entertaining all at the same time. The best part was actually looking at the stars and the moon through the telescope! I look forward to returning.

My family recently had the pleasure of staying at the StarGzer Lodge for 3 nights. the pictures and description on the web were very accurate. the house was clean and well maintained. The rooms were large and the view was exceptionally inviting. We cooked several meals there and found the kitchen had everything we could possibly need. We also ate at the clubhouse one evening and found the food tasty, good service and reasonable prices. My parents enjoyed lounging and reading on the main floor while myself and the kids played pool and ping pong, watched movies in the upstairs media room, took long hikes and went swimming in the lake. The house was conveniently located within Big Canoe yet far enough away from the village to be peaceful, quiet and private. we are already making plans to return. Mark was easy to work with and prompt in answering my emails and any questions I had.

Canoe Classics delivers a Quality, Serene Retreat

My first visit to Big Canoe was an amazing experience, just 1.5 hours from Atlanta. Mark at Canoe Classics was friendly, professional and above all honest. Everything he said about the Stargazer Lodge was right on target. I felt spoiled the minute I walked through the front door and the experience just got better and better. Stargazer has a wonderful mix of serene views, luxury and style...wrapped up in quiet comfort. My usual pattern is to get restless after 2-3 days away from home and work, but I wanted to extend my stay at Stargazer. I hope to be calling Mark very soon to book another retreat with Canoe Classics. Five Stars in my book!

This is the third time I have stayed at Stargazer and I have loved it each time! Just got back from a "scrapping weekend" with girlfriends and we had such a great time! The house has everything we need and is close to fabulous shopping at the outlets. The host is sweet and knowledgeable about the area and the house is always spotless. We're already planning another trip back:)

Absolutely loved this house. It was very spacious with plenty of room for everyone to relax and jave fun. The porches were great. The views were fantastic. The beds were so comfortable. Loved having a king sized bed in every bedroom. The home was equipped with everything we needed for cooking dinner both nights. Close to the marina and all the other amenities that Big Canoe has to offer. Will definitely be returning to Stargazer Lodge. Can't wait!

We just completed our stay at the StarGazer Lodge, and it was a GREAT time! In fact, we extended our stay by a day because we just couldn't bring ourselves to leave the beautiful surroundings of Big Canoe and the StarGazer Lodge. My family of 4 stayed with another family of 4, and the adults and children (ages 4, 5, 6 and 7) all loved our trip to Big Canoe.

Just spent five days scrap booking and relaxing with friends. House is fabulous! A bedroom for each of us and a big table for our scraping. We shopped at the Outlets, ate our meals on the porch and the beds were awesome and I slept like a rock. I've already booked a long weekend with my family for this summer. Can't wait to go back.

My husband and I got engaged at StarGazer and we think of it as our "special" place. We visit every year and can't say enough great things about the views, serenity, and the accommodations. It's unlike any 'lodge' I've ever been too. The property is extremely comfortable, clean and well decorated...better than your own home if you know what I mean. We can sit for hours on the back deck and watch the stars, listen to the crickets and just relax. You will think at the end of your vacation, "if only we had a couple more days at StarGazer..." I promise. StarGazer is the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
