Review the rental agreement. There are a number of expectations that we ask you to observe. It is YOUR responsibility to communicate these to others in your party BEFORE stay. Here are the major ones:

1. This is a NON-SMOKING PROPERTY. That includes the home, the decks, and the grounds. (Big Canoe is VERY dry at times, and high fire risk is common.)

2. The home is made available to ONLY the number of occupants specified at time of booking. Do not bring or invite persons (day or night) or a dog to the property, who have not been specifically identified, quantified, and approved at the time the reservation is made. This applies to a service dog as well. The total cost of the rental is based upon the maximum number of guests who will occupy the home, even though that may vary during during the term of the rental.

3. I ask that guests here observe reasonable and acceptable standards of care and behavior while in the home. I want the home to be as nice as possible for every guest. I provide plenty of drink coasters, disinfectant wipes, and grill-cleaning materials. Spills, food, and grease in the oven, stovetop, grill, floors, and surfaces are the RENTER'S RESPONSIBILITY to address BEFORE CHECKOUT. If owner is not in the area, guests will be responsible for removing trash to the Big Canoe facility. I also recommend a parent's watchful eye on the kids, as it's always easier to prevent a problem than to fix one.

4. This is a mountain community, and this home rests 2000' up the side of a mountain. That means you should expect to travel curvy, inclined roads to get here and around Big Canoe. There is a chance that your cell reception will be great or poor, depending on carrier. Your internet performance, and TV channel choice and reception may not be what you experience in flat urban areas. Refraining from using the internet for streaming, gaming, Netflix, etc. will leave plenty of bandwidth for traditional web surfing, e-mail, and transactional activity.

5. Big Canoe doe not permit on-street parking, or parking of RV's. The driveway will accommodate 5 cars, but large pickups will reduce that, and RVs are just not practical. You may park a car at the bottom of the cul-de-sac for short periods, but for vehicles in excess of 5, you must make other arrangements, such as shuttling from one of the parking lots inside BC.

This home is located on a large, very private double lot. There is a SEPARATE, DETACHED efficiency apartment that at times is used by the OWNER ONLY if he happens to be in Big Canoe while the house is occupied by guests. Owner MAY or MAY NOT, depending upon schedule, be available to greet you and to answer questions during your stay, and to transport refuse to the collection facility (if owner is NOT here, renter is responsible for taking trash to the refuse facility as needed.). Beyond that, you'll hardly know he's there, except you'll notice that the garbage can has been emptied and a fresh one is in it's place.

INSTANT BOOKING is enabled. Calendar and rates are ALWAYS up to date. I try to respond to all inquiries within 20 MINUTES. Inquiries about availability, cost, and discounts are not necessary. Simply enter the dates of your stay and the number in your party into the VRBO calendar, and it will provide a reliable quote. You can then move directly to a reservation request. I am very happy to respond to specific questions about my home and your stay here. Including a few words about your group and vacation plans is always welcome.

Payment terms: 50% payable at time of booking, remaining balance payable 30 days before arrival. No other deposit required.

Cancellation policy: full refund of amount paid if cancelled greater than 60 days before arrival date.

An additional suggestion: Just as a traveler wants to know the details of his accommodations, the homeowner wants to know something about his guests and how they intend to use his property, and that will determine my response. As noted above, I attempt to respond to all serious inquiries within 20 minutes. However, obvious cut & paste “blasts”, indicating that the sender has not bothered to view/read the listing, will not receive immediate attention.

Finally, note that in order to make the home affordable to all group sizes, (and to reflect the additional wear and cleaning associated with larger groups) the seasonal base rate is applied to a group size of SIX. Each guest beyond that number who will be accommodated in the home during the term of the rental is calculated at $10 per night per person, and reflected in your VRBO quote. When booking the home, applicant should note the TOTAL number of guests who will sleep in the home, even though some may arrive late or depart early, and thus not be present during the entire term of the rental.

Hope to see y’all soon!

About Kevin Worrilow

I am a retiree of the IBM Corporation, having grown up in the small northwestern Ohio town of Lima. I hold a BS degree and MBA from "THE" Ohio State University. Most of my business career was spent in Cincinnati. I enjoy traveling throughout the USA, and have a goal of exploring every National Park. I have also made many journeys to Europe and Central America, traveling many countries via train with a backpack. I am an avid reader, swimmer, hiker, tennis player, student of Objectivist philosophy, and music aficionado, with a collection of over 4000 vintage vinyl "rock" LPs, which I also sell to other collectors across the world. I live in beautiful Naples FL most of the year, and spend parts of my summer in Big Canoe, which on any given summer day is about 20 degrees cooler than south Florida (in fact, my elevation here in BC is regularly a good 10 degrees cooler than Atlanta in the summer!)

Kevin Worrilow purchased this house in 2016

Why Kevin Worrilow chose Jasper

I happened upon this home during a weekend visiting Big Canoe. (I had no intention of buying a house!) I was immediately struck by the uniqueness of the design and layout, which is ideal for not only large gatherings but also for everyday family living. It has ample open space to accommodate an extended family or company wanting to enjoy a shared experience, but also provides a number of separate nooks, rooms, 2 decks and 3 floors to give residents plenty of privacy and the ability to "do their own thing". Plus, it has TWO rooms, one elevated to tree-top level, that are IDEAL for billiards and other games. The chef in your group will love the Wolf commercial range and other high-end kitchen appliances.

Of course, the wooded, mountainside setting speaks for itself. Where else can you fall asleep to the sound of a flowing stream and wake up to the sun coming up over the mountain? Or pass deer, wild turkeys, BEARS, or maybe even BOBCATS as you wind your way down to the golf course, tennis courts, or swimming pools? And we haven't even talked about the wild azaleas and rhododendrons in the spring....

Beyond the property line, you have the wonderful, National Park-like setting of Big Canoe, with amenities that rival the finest resorts but nestled in the Appalachian foothills!

What makes this house unique

The first feature you will HEAR as you approach the house is the soothing sound of the waterfalls below. The first feature you SEE as you enter the home is the authentic Craftsman design and flourishes, and the seasonal view through the back of the home of the stream bed and mountains beyond. Entering the front door, observe the tall wainscoting throughout, the hardwood floors, and the vaulted, all-glass, "in the treetops" billiard room. You'll feel as though you are in a treehouse and walking through the clouds (which at times you are!) Note the authentic Craftsman moldings around transom-topped doors and windows. Notice the professional kitchen, then proceed through the living room, past the stacked-stone fireplace, out the double doors, and onto the deck. Take in the view of the valley, the sounds of the stream, and the beauty of the mountains. Now, multiply that by the fact that you have the same views and sounds from almost every room in the house, and the lower covered deck as well! Returning inside, peek into the huge 1st floor master suite with jet-tub, then detour to the lower level where you'll find another comfortable great room with 50" TV, another master suite with heated floors, and another glass-enclosed entertainment room. Upstairs on the top level, you'll find an Amish-made queen Craftsman bedroom, and another bedroom with THREE twins and a trundle for the kids, all with that fantastic view! Life's pretty good here, and I would be happy for you discover it by spending a few days in "Galt's Gulch"!

My guests seem to enjoy taking advantage of the Big Canoe amenities (golf, swimming, rock slide, hiking, tennis, etc) during the day, and relaxing on the decks overlooking the stream in the evening. They seem to get excellent use from the grill and pool table. Some have taken day trips to various hiking trails outside BC, plus whitewater rafting and zip-line adventures, all of which are nearby.

Beautiful secluded home!

  • 5 of 5

This home is a beauty, well decorated fully complete with many specialties. The layout is fantastic great for multi families with kids. Plenty of rooms kitchen is upgraded and full service for cooking and plenty of dishes glasses and silverware. We stayed with 7 adults and 2 toddlers. The basement is beautifully furnished, has 2 nice rooms a game room and a den. There is a fun light filled room with ping pong and air hockey. Large decks with lots of table and chairs to sit at eat and take in the fresh mountain air and woods.

Everything you could want in a get away home.

The home is on a cul deal sac at the bottle of a hill, near to trails and a waterfall in the woods.

Ample parking for 3 to 4 cars.

The owner is easy to ask questions and helpful. He even gave us a tour when we arrived and as a special treat bought us ice cream wine and chocolate! What could be nicer.

Big Canoe has 2 pools playground boats to rent and a recreational area.

Love our trip in the mountains. We were there over Labor Day weekend.

Beautiful Clean Home with Everything You Need!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property with 6 adults and 6 children spanning the ages of 5 - 14. There was never a question of what to do, as the house and the surrounding landscape provided all the entertainment we needed! Kevin was always available to answer questions, but never ubtrusive. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed, and the views were amazing! We had a wonderful time and I hope we have the opportunity to return sometime when it is warmer to enjoy the many water ammenities in the neighborhood!

In the tree tops

  • 5 of 5

We were in the area for our son's wedding with grown kids and grand-kids. Plenty of room for everyone. My daughter, her husband and their two daughters had the downstairs area for themselves. The owner was very helpful. We had an issue with the WiFi but Kevin even tried to install a new router. Apparently, better service will be brought to the area this year. It is a great place to get away from the world. The home is at the end of the development so you feel like you all alone. At the same time you can enjoy all the amenities of Big Canoe. The house is clean, comfortable, and well kept.

Thanks Kevin!

Beautiful house in a great location!!

  • 5 of 5

Awesome house and well appointed. Everything is in pristine condition. Very close to a great walking trail with the upper and lower falls. Any questions we had were answered in - a matter of minutes. Kevin, the owner, is very responsive. Whether you’re with a group of adults or a big family, this will be a great place for you! We cooked out on the grill a few nights, used the kitchen on others. There’s a couple of nice restaurants right outside the north entrance. A couple outside the main entrance also. We were ready to find a realtor and buy a place of our own by the end of our stay:)!!

Owner's Response: Mark, it was an absolute pleasure having your family here. I especially appreciate you assisting my housekeeper by keeping the home so clean and even doing some laundry before departure...she was delighted! I hope you are able to buy a place here in Big Csnoe, but until that happens I hope you will return to “Galt’s Gulch” and be our guest again!

Very nice!

  • 5 of 5

I only rate vacation rentals five stars when I would consider returning to the property again. I would definitely return to this house. It is spacious and has a very clean feel to it.

Random comments:

We enjoyed playing pool.

The ping pong table is not in a big enough space to really enjoy it, though.

Walking from the house to a waterfall was enjoyable.

The owner seems very focused on addressing anything that needs fixed.

We left the place talking about when would be the next chance to come back!
