Located in an exclusive area of Hilo, the RiverHouse Hide-Away is nestled in a tropical river setting on a nearly-one-acre estate. A crystal-clear river meanders through the property year 'round, and is complemented by a carpet-like lawn, majestic trees and beautiful blooms.
The Hide-Away is a separate spacious unit on the first floor of this fine example of a 1948-vintage, traditional 'plantation-style' Hilo home. Your hosts, Glenn and Mozella, welcome you to their home, and will be just upstairs and will be available for your questions. There is a completely separate entrance and patio area for your privacy. Your living room, tastefully appointed in a tropical motif, is a warm and inviting space. The kitchenette is supplied with everything you will need for fixing light meals. There are some wonderful local restaurants just down the hill to enjoy.
Dine to the sweet sound of the gentle rapids, whether you are inside or out. You will have a lovely fireplace for a special romantic ambiance during the cool winter evenings. An entertainment center with cable TV, VCR and DVD players is there for you, with a stereo that plays tapes and CDs. Wireless and cable RoadRunner high-speed Internet services are also provided.
Enjoy your own private lanai, with a barbecue, patio furnishings and loungers, for dining out by the river or just soaking up some sun! From the top lanai, which you are free to use, you can see the ocean and the top of Mauna Kea--a good view and fresh breeze! The house sits at 800 feet elevation, above flood and hurricane zones.
The bedroom features a king bed and lots of nicely-crafted built-ins. We provide luxury hotel linens as well as a hypoallergenic alternative down pillow-top. There is also a full laundry for your use.
Because of insurance liability, at this time, the Riverhouse Hide-Away is for adult guests only. The Hide-Away is a Strictly Non-Smoking Retreat.
Right in town, the RiverHouse Hide-Away is only minutes away from beautiful beach parks and everything Hilo has to offer. Theaters, UH-Hilo, Imiloa Astronomy Center, restaurants, surfing, kayak rentals, an amazing Farmer's Market, museums, guided walks, and much more, are just a few of these offers!

We enjoyed our week at this beautiful Hilo property. Amenities galore - books to B.B.Q. Comfortable furnishings inside and on the Lanai reflect the Hawaiian culture. We loved the beautiful gardens and listening to the little river just outside our door. The owners are friendly and helpful, and we felt completely relaxed in the privacy they provided. We took a picnic lunch on full day outings to explore Volcanoes National Park and the Hamakua Coast. Waterfalls, Rain forests, beach parks, zoo, the Lyman Museum, and the amazing 'Imiloa Astronomy Center are in town or a short drive. Lunch at Cafe Pesto and the Ponds Restaurants were very nice, and the B.B.Q.'ing on the private Lanai amid a tropical paradise can't be beat. We would highly recommend a stay and hope to return. Mahalo to our hosts.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Aloha D & S, We so enjoyed getting to know such a great couple! Thank you for sharing with our potential guests all that you experienced in the Hilo area and at the HideAway in particular. What a great time for you to be here--glorious weather and flowing lava! Mahalo for staying with us, Mozela

Just wanted to say that we just spent the best vacation of our lives. The RiverHouse Hide-Away was everything a person would want for a completely tranquil and exciting experience. The apartment was bueatiful and everything a person would want in vacation lodgings. We mostly liked the time we spent on the lanai, listening to the river, watching the birds and smelling all the bueatiful tropical plants. Glenn and Mozella were the perfect hosts. Mozella was available to answer all our questions and informing us of all the island history. We learned a great deal. If given the opportunity we will be returning to the Hide-Away again. Thanks for making this a special time for us.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Aloha W and D, What a wonderful 10 days we all had--you were the perfect guests. Thank you for sharing your vacation with us. We are so glad that you were able to enjoy the peaceful river each morning and evening with fun activities sandwiched in-between! We look forward to your return to us! Mahalo nui loa, Mozela

My recent stay at the River House was perfect. Glenn and Mozela were exceptional hosts; they thoughtfully provided many of those essentials (shampoo, sunscreen, etc.) that can no longer be included in carry-on luggage. The apartment was exceptional, and the property beat-out the botanical gardens. As a single traveler, I felt perfectly safe and enjoyed grilling many of my meals on the porch by the river. I would absolutely recommend this property.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Aloha M, Thank you for your kind review. I feel that one of my friends has moved away! I enjoyed our walk and visits. Thank you for the beautiful print that you gave me--it will be framed and displayed in the Hideaway! What an adventurer you are to have hiked for 6 hours to the flowing lava, your first full day here, to be followed by an open door helicopter ride! Glenn and I look forward to seeing again in Hilo! Mahalo, Mozela

A cozy, comfortable apartment with spacious rooms, nicely furnished, and a lovely covered patio that looks out onto a beautiful stream that is a dramatic feature in this lush tropical setting. The location is ideal as Hilo is a small town and distances aren't great. Everything is within easy reach; beaches, volcano, thermal pools, museums, shops and restaurants. Our host and hostess were most helpful with useful information, and the spirit of aloha was evident from the lovely flower arrangement to the fresh fruit and cookies for a mid-afternoon snack. A true find in the foot hills of Hilo.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Aloha B and M, It was our privilege to be your hosts. We had a great time visiting with you on the lanai--listening to the river, watching the birds. We are so pleased that you enjoyed all that Hilo has to offer. Whenever your travels bring you once again to Hawaii, we would love to see you. Mahalo nui loa!

The apartment was great, bigger than I expected. Everything was there that we need including umbrellas. The grounds are beautiful, I wish it had been dryer so we could have enjoyed the property more. It was close to town, eating, shopping. Thank you for sharing your house with us.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Aloha P, Thank you for your gracious review of the RiverHouse Hide-Away. We understand that the islands have experienced a wetter than normal weather this winter. We had a fabulous time on the big island. The pictures don't do the property justice, it is absolutely gorgeous! The lush grounds are so colorful & meticulously maintained. The stream is beautiful and the sound of the water is so relaxing. The accommodations are very clean & comfortable. There are so many things to do on the island from exploring volcanos, waterfalls & botanical gardens (my favorite) to the beaches of Kona, or just relaxing on the lanai with a good book. We can't wait to go back, it was a great experience!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Aloha R & C, Thank you for your kind words. We enjoyed your visit with us, and can't wait for your return! We are so glad that you experienced the peace and relaxation of our HideAway in Paradise! Mahalo, Mozella

My wife and I celebrated our birthdays and Valentine's Day at this beautiful Hawaiian setting. The accommodations and grounds are perfect for a romantic, exotic get a way. The sound of the running stream, the colorful birds, and the meticulous landscape make this property an island unto its own. The house is just a few minutes from the downtown area and the beautiful, tropical beach areas. It was the perfect place to make a lifetime memory.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
