Caunes Minervois is situated in the vineyards of the Aude Valley at the base of the Montaigne Noir, an hour from the sea. Caunes is 20 Kilometers from Carcassonne (a medieval walled city). Caunes was once a walled medieval village that has managed to maintain its historic architectural beauty without becoming touristy. Its 7th century abbey is near to the house in the center of the village. The village has all of the amenities (grocery stores, prize winning butcher, deli, bakeries, pharmacy, cafe bars and restaurants). Buses connect the village to Carcassonne which has a colorful market 3 times a week.
The house is three-stories tall and has a facade dating from the 17th century. The house is traditional in design (thick walls, high beamed ceilings, and shuttered windows). It has a large modern kitchen with a fireplace and French doors leading out to the courtyard, a large living room (with 2 French doors facing the courtyard), the tiled master bathroom has a shower, bidet, toilet, and sink. It also has a sliding glass door which goes out to large covered balcony (which faces the abbey). The second bathroom has a bathtub, stylish vanity/lavabo, and toilet. There is also a WC (half bath) on the ground floor. The 3 bedrooms have a choice of beds -- queen, double, and 2 twin beds. The courtyard has a table with an umbrella (seating for 6) and a barbecue. The house is simply decorated with antiques of the region and art work from trips abroad.
