  • A home away from home, perfectly charming

"This was just the most perfect holiday we have had in a while. We felt at home from the start. The owner went to great pains to make sure we knew our way around the property and its amenities, sharing things to do and making us feel relaxed. The property is pretty, bright,clean,well-maintained and equipped and the wifi is reasonable. The planchette was great for (man) cooking on the patio. The pool is extremely clean and maintained and although it is shared with the owner, we always were alone. Table tennis is available with a few pool inflatables. A welcome bottle of lovely Gaillac wine, juice and flowers, with aperitifs to finish our holiday in the chateau with the owner and his wife, all contributed to our wonderful stay. The location, on a hill, has a view to die for! The property is a mixture of old stone and modernity, with all the mod cons. Although it is a little isolated (with plenty of hills around) it is about 15 minutes by car to Puy Laurens, where there are all the local small shops you need plus a couple of reasonable supermarkets. It is a perfect location for exploring the Pays de Cocagne. Our favourites were Cordes Sur Ciel, Toulouse, Castres and Albi and there are so many small villages including Lautrec, which capture the spirit of the area. Do visit the Chateau of Magrin, which houses the (small) pastel museum, a truly fascinating experience. It throws much light on this area's history and development. We enjoyed cycling on the voie vertes, our favourites being from Revel, Mazamet and Saint Sulpice. The selection of restaurants is limited, partly because of the August holidays. L'Etoile, nearby in Puy Laurens, although not much to look at, served lovely food in the evening. We would also recommend Pub St Martin in Soreze and Cafe du Lac, near Revel. We would love to revisit this area and to return to Mas Du Tour. Highly recommended."

  • Delightful House

"My husband and I just returned from spending two whole weeks at this very delightful house. The pictures are accurate but in fact, the house is better than the pictures. It is quiet and private and very well and tastefully furnished. It is, also, very well equipped - having come from five weeks on the road, we were not keen to continue eating all our meals in restaurants so we ended up cooking some dinners as well as preparing most of our lunches and breakfasts. The kitchen is not only nice to look at but very well equipped for cooking full meals. We had our adult daughter join us for a long weekend from London and the bedroom/bathroom set up is ideal for families or two couples with plenty of space, large closets and good sized bathrooms as well. An extra bonus is the fact there is a clothes washer and dryer. A lovely surprise was that the linens and towels were changed half way through our stay. The village is very quiet except for the Tuesday market which is a wonderful source of fresh food of all kinds. The location also works well for day visits to pretty much all major Langedouc and Roussilon sites including Carcassonne, Narbonne, Perpignan, and a whole variety of little villages, abbeys, castle ruins, beach towns etc. as well, of course, as the Canal du Mid. There are a couple of very decent restaurants within easy walking distance (the Bel Minervois and O'Portail) and we found an excellent restaurant in a small town just two km's away in Homps. Our only difficulty is that the garage, while very handy to have, has a rather awkward entry to it made that much more awkward by the way in which cars nearby park. We usually parked on the street and walked in but we had made the mistake of renting a largish car (not large by North American standards) so rent as small a car as you can get by with and this will not be a problem. The owner was easy to contact and very responsive though in fact we had no difficulties or problems at all. There is a land line for use and good strong WIFI, both very much appreciated. We have rented houses and townhouses in a variety of jurisdictions over the past 10 years or so and this one was certainly one of the more delightful and well equipped houses."
