Recent Venice property reviews

  • "I had a wonderful stay in the apartment on Giudecca. It was large, well-equipped and provided everything I needed -- far superior to a hotel. Before I went, I was a little worried about being on another island, but the vaporetti come every 10 minutes and so it was very easy to get to anywhere in Venice. And Giudecca is a wonderful escape from the hordes of tourists. Plus Caterina could not have been more pleasant or helpful. Highly recommended."

  • wonderful Venice location

"Our family of 5 had a fantastic stay in this Arsenale apartment. Venice is truly a magical place, but it is very busy, and this location was wonderful for being just enough out of the way to be peaceful, but still close enough to be wandering Venice in a matter of minutes. The apartment itself is very clean and well appointed with the best shower we had in our 12 days in Italy. (still not huge, but bigger than all the others!) Our host Marika was very welcoming and great to communicate with before and during our stay. We had a minor problem with keys and power when we first arrived, but it didn't make our experience any less enjoyable and Marika worked hard to make sure everything was solved quickly. We would gladly stay here again. We have 3 older boys and we had plenty of space to sleep well in this cosy apartment."

  • Absolutely Charming

"The Serenata apartment was absolutely charming, warm and beautiful. We really felt like locals staying there. It was fun walking down a sidestreet and entering the building while the few stray tourists looked at us enviously! Right across the way was a beautiful outdoor dining area that was part of a nearby hotel, perfect for a relaxing glass of wine and chichetti. Our terrace overlooked one of the smaller canals and we had our breakfast each day while watching the delivery boats and the gondolas below-sometimes hearing the gondoliers' serenade. The bed was super comfortable and the furnishings were lovely. The shower was great and we were surprised that the water pressure was so good, given that we had heard otherwise about European water pressure. The church bells rang throughout the day and we were in heaven. The only note of caution is that the two steps up to the terrace might be precarious for some, but if you watch the doorway height, you'll be fine, and the very charming greeter, Paola, was smart enough to hang an ornament from the top of the doorway just to be sure!. We certainly wish we were still at the Serenata!"

Venice Travel Tips

Getting to Venice

Venice is a well-known European vacation destination located on the northwestern coast of Italy. Known for its waterways and magnificent architecture, it is a city that is easily accessible by land, air and sea. The Marco Polo International Airport is located approximately four miles outside the city center. The airport hosts most major European airlines as well as other international airlines on regularly scheduled daily flights. There are also several low-cost regional European airlines that have frequent flights into Venice.

If traveling from North America or other parts of the world, you may need to route via Rome, Milan, Frankfurt, London or one of the other major European hubs. If you are already in Europe, you may consider driving or traveling by train to Venice. There is good road access with a number of main highways and arterial roads. There is an extensive rail network that links Venice with the rest of Italy and Europe. High-speed intercity trains are a convenient way to travel and often more affordable than flying. Venice is a major European cruise port. Many cruise ships start and end their itineraries in Venice. Others simply stop off for a few days before moving down the coast to other Mediterranean destinations. Smaller private yachts often dock in Venice; if you have your own tender, you can independently explore some of the canals.

Benefits of Staying in Venice Apartments

Venice is the type of city you want to be able to explore at your own pace. There are so many different places of interest, including beautiful churches, canal-side cafés, museums and art galleries. Staying in a vacation home allows you to get a glimpse of the real Venice. Tucked away in side streets, above bakeries or bookshops, the apartments are often quite compact but still comfortable. Furnished in elegant Italian style, it’s like having your own private hotel suite, except it’s more affordable and has a kitchen so you can do your own catering. Shop for groceries at the local store and get freshly baked bread, cheeses and cold meats from the local deli. By the end of your stay, you may never want to leave.

Venice Travel Attractions

It’s difficult to take in all of Venice’s attractions unless you plan an extended stay in the city. There are a number of historic landmarks that are must-sees and some Venetian activities you must do. Most people associate Venice with romantic gondola rides through the canals. While they may seem a little touristy and they are quite expensive, they are still worth every cent, especially if you have that special person sitting next to you. The Piazza San Marco is a place where locals and tourists gather en mass during the warmer summer months. There are a number of expensive cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy a cup of coffee. The Basilica Di San Marco is a cathedral located just off the square and a magnificent example of Byzantine architecture. It is a place that houses many religious relics plundered during the Crusades. The Grande Canal is Venice’s main waterway. There are ferries and cruises that can take you up its 2.5-mile length. The ferries stop at various points on either side of the canal. There are a number of bridges that cross the canal. The most famous is the Ponte di Rialto which dates back to 1591. For more than two centuries, it was the only pedestrian bridge across the canal. This area houses many shops and food stores, and is great for browsing.

Venice has a romantic reputation because of its beautiful architecture and rich cultural heritage. In truth, anyone who enjoys European history will love Venice.
