  • Wonderful stay

"Stayed at The Boathouse for the off season between selling and buying a new home. It was very comfortable and came with everything you need for an extended stay. Thoroughly enjoyed gas fireplace on cold mornings and farmers market on weekends. Convenient to Stonington village with great restaurants and also 5 minutes to I 95. Owners were quite accommodating and took care of any problems quickly. Highly recommend this place for both short term or long term rental."

  • Beautiful home; beautiful views!

"We are from Missouri and met a NY daughter and a Boston son at this home for Easter weekend. The house needs a house number on the mailbox but once you've found it, it's all easy and feels likes a world away even though it is just off the "highway" between Mystic and Stonington. All the rooms are large and all the bedrooms have beautiful views. Even the bunking room, which could sleep at least 8 in twin beds, has a view because there are gorgeous views from the front and the back of the property. The main room is a combination kitchen, dining, living room and could entertain a large number of people. All doors from this GREAT room open onto a wonderful deck and an outdoor fireplace. There is a staging room off the kitchen too with an extra dishwasher, which we used after Easter dinner - another plus. Susan was very helpful with recommendations for restaurants and we highly recommend Bravo Bravo as our favorite. Great drinks; great food; nice atmosphere; nice size. Much better than the popular oyster house across the street. We did both of the recommended hikes on Susan's list and loved them both. Very different too! We also bought seafood in Stonington and had the best chowder and scallops ever! It's low key here at this time of year. I'm sure it's quite busy in summer and Mystic is cute. There's one grocery store - but a pretty good one. Alcohol is not sold in grocery stores but there's a well-stocked liquor store a couple miles from the property. Relaxing. You might want to bring earplugs. We did go ahead and play with the thermostat just a bit because we thought the setting was too cool for us. The picturesque light house, viewable from the house in the sound, does have a regular warning horn and if you are a light sleeper, you might hear it at night without your plugs. Lovely, lovely place. So great that owners are sharing it! Thank you to Susan for generous hospitality!"

  • We're back!

"This is our second stay here. Since our goal is to retire to the Boro we couldn't ask for more. Carolyn';s apartment is why you come to the Boro. While it is usually just my husband and myself here we have accomodated any and all of our 5 children and eight grandchildren for visits. We love it. Just walk out your door and wander the Boro, eat lunch or dinner, sightsee, shop, go to the library, go to the beach. You can take a walk 24 hours a day if you choose. It is safe, affordable, fun and our home away from home. We are thinking of trying a winter stay this year! Paula and Hal Oberg"

  • Everyone was jealous!

"Everyone was jealous that we were able to stay in the James Merrill apartments, even the women giving the walking tour of historic Stonington. This is a wonderful apartment in the center of the Borough. We thought parking might be a problem, but there is a free parking lot about 100 feet from the apartment. We walked everywhere from here. The apartment felt so right staying in such a historic location. It looks exactly like the pictures. Based on the bathroom picture, I thought it was going to be a tiny shower; imagine my surprise when I opened the shower curtain and it was a unique corner tub. We couldn’t have picked a more perfect spot to stay! The people in Stonington are the friendliest people I have ever met and I know, I am from “Minnesota Nice”. Great restaurants, great views and great historic area."

Seasons to Visit Connecticut Vacation Rentals in Stonington

Because of its location on the Atlantic coastline of Connecticut, the most popular season to travel is during the warmer summer months. Stonington is a relatively sleepy town for most of the year and that is a large part of its charm. The town does get busier during the summer months of June and July when many families frequent the area as part of their summer vacations. As it is just a five-minute drive to the busy resort town of Mystic, many families may rent a cottage in Stonington and then head out during the day to explore the area's attractions. In the winter months, the weather can be chilly but if your ideal getaway involves beautiful scenery and cozying up on the couch in front of a fireplace then that will be a good time of year for you to visit Stonington.
