  • beautiful area

"The place was clean and presentable. The walk to the beach was short and simple making this house and excellent choice to stay. I would recommend this house to any friend planning a vacation there."

  • Love love love

"We stayed here between Christmas and New Years. We had 4 adults and 2 children. This home was so lovely and relaxed. It is an old home and we loved the charm, beautiful woodwork and details plus the beautiful lanai and grounds. The space was perfect and the location was wonderful. We were 30 yards down a quiet sandy path to the most gorgeous beach. We explored Kailua, loved walking down the beach to get our morning coffee at the Kalapawai market, shaved ice at island snow, hiking to the pillbox. Our only recommendation is a a few more screens on the windows - not a problem in January but might be in summer! Also, a few more provisions would be nice. Overall though I would highly recommend Pilipu house."

  • Good Value

"My husband and I are from Canada and stayed here in August 2014. All the reviews written are accurate depictions of the cottage, which is a quite a private add on to the back of their garage. Positive comments first: Good value for the price. Hosts are kind, thoughtful, friendly and very helpful with as much or as little interaction as you want. Quiet, peaceful, private setting. Snorkels, wave boards, beach chairs and mats a plenty. Good sized fruit basket upon arrival as well as pastry for first morning and quality fruit preserves which lasted the week. Washer-dryer was great. Back private deck and lounge chairs. Kitchen has full fridge, micro, coffee maker and hot plate. Cooking items and dishes well stocked. Comfortable bed. Nice tiled shower. 5 minute walk to the beach path. Clean quiet beach with Hawaii's aqua marine clear water. Plenty of water sports to watch and participate in if desired: kite boarding, surf sailing, long Hawaiian canoe races, kayaking, etc. Beautiful breezes. Hosts friendly and accommodating in every way. They take credit card for payment. Negative aspects: floor tiles worn and cracked in places, but serviceable and clean. Kitchen cupboards were not clean and dishes and utensils not too clean (probably from infrequent use). As stated by others, washer-dryer are in garage and garage is quite messy. There are sky lights into the room which make the room nice and bright, but when the sun is out in full, a lot of heat comes in and you can't get away from the heat as there is no air conditioning: there is no way to shade the sky lights. But the price can't be beat, and we think the negative aspects can be overlooked because of the positive points."

  • Wonderful base for seeing Oahu

"My wife and I stayed for 5 nights after spending two days in Waikiki. Much more affordable and with a full kitchen. From our base in Kailua it was easy to explore the north shore and Hanamuana Bay, and with H3 right there we easily went over to Honolulu for Pearl Harbor and the Bishop Museum. And a beautiful beach is just a short walk, to see the sunrise. It is easy to see why the President picked Kailua in December for his holiday vacation. Very nice owners, friendly but not unobtrusive."
