  • Best rental we ever go to!

"We have been bringing our growing family (now 5 kids) to Hidden Bear for 6+ years. It has become a family tradition and a family favorite year after year! We have stayed at many rental properties in our 16 years of marriage. It is safe to say in comparison, Hidden Bear is by far the best! The owners do not set the place up like a rental but like a vacation HOME! The kitchen is equipped with more than I even have at my own house. Every single detail and accommodation is thought out and they supply you with everything you could want in a place away from home. And... every year they add something new to enjoy! I would recommend this place to anyone. Lovely, lovely, lovely!"

  • Perfect!

"My family all came out from the west coast for our family reunion. Three families each with two kids and my parents. It was a wonderful week, couldn't have been more perfect. The lake is everything you could hope for, crystal clear, nice temperature, great fishing, quiet, great for water skiing / tubing, etc. Everyone had something to do. The little kids enjoyed swimming and tubing. The mom's enjoyed cruising in the pontoon boat. The dad's enjoyed fishing (wow! there are a ton of fish in this lake!) and the older kids enjoy water skiing. For the five days on the lake we felt like we were the only ones there. There were a few more people on the 4th of July but it was still quiet, only one other motor boat with water skiers. The lodge itself is very comfortable. Two master bed rooms and a central bunk room for the kids. My parents stayed in the hotel. The scenery is amazing too! Turtles are plentiful plus blue gills right off the dock that our smaller kids had no trouble catching. Bald eagles were consistently flying overhead or perched in a tree on the shore. Lots of large mouth bass. We loved having the Carlin Club Supper Club next door. Made dinner really easy for several nights. All in all, this was the perfect location for our family reunion!"

  • Great View and Location

"There was a group of five of us that stayed at the Schooner House for a “girls weekend”. We enjoyed the accommodations and the location. Everything is just as it looks in the pictures other than the beach. The beach area was about 15-20 ft. It definitely could be longer if the area was cleared. It’s possible, because of the time of year, it is not kept cleared since there is less opportunity to use it. No algae issues during our stay. Everyone thought the beds were comfortable. The large deck and the view are the highlights of the Schooner House. Thankfully, we had portions of the weekend where we were able to sit out on the deck and enjoy the view, sun and the sound of the waves hitting the shore. Reminded us of being at the ocean. The chairs on the deck were cloth and very comfortable. We did not think the walk to the beach was long or that the neighbors were too close. It took less than a minute to walk to the beach. The water in the house did not smell. We also enjoyed the view from the living room and kitchen. We explored Two Rivers, Kewaunee and Algoma. Our favorite spots were the von Stiehl Winery and the Flying Pig. Two Rivers happened to be having their Ethnic Festival, which was also enjoyable. On our way to Algoma, we had lunch at Late’s in Manitowoc. This is a local favorite according to my friend’s father who grew up in the area. We thought the burgers, perch sandwich and cheese curds were very good. During our stay we ate at Red’s, a very short drive north of the Schooner House. The food was good. It offered a variety of choices. We had breakfast at Kunkels Korner in Kewaunee and Dairy Dean’s Family Restaurant in Algoma. Both were very good. The pizza was okay from Algoma Pizza Bowl. The crust was a little cardboardy. It could be a result of us having it delivered. The service was good at all restaurants. Pizza Bowl normally does not deliver to the Schooner House but they accommodated our request. We were very surprised that all the restaurants were willing to provide separate checks. Many restaurants in Milwaukee seem to have a problem with that. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Schooner House to others looking to stay in the area."
