About the property

Cabin Sleeps at Least 6 Adults - All Rooms With Beautiful Lake Views.

This family friendly log cabin is situated on a 150' point of land extending into Deepwoods Lake with a small island off the end. The cabin is a unique as the lake wraps around the cabin on both the eastern and western sides. The lake is only 15' away from the cabin windows and always a lake breeze rolling across the peninsula and cabin. The swimming and fishing are excellent with crystal clear water in the lake with loons and eagles.

Step inside and feel welcome and happy. Kids play board games, fish, find frogs and be children. Dogs fetch sticks and swim. It's like going back in time... BUT IN STYLE!

The cabin is picturesque among 100 year old pines and the lake can be enjoyed from any room of the cabin. Both sides of the point are great for fishing and the west side is preferred for swimming with bigger pier (16x8) and swim raft. We provide canoe and row boat.

THE CABIN offers flexible sleeping spaces. It has one queen bedroom; a "breezeway" enclosed porch with a full/twin log bunkbed & another twin bed including a sink. The living room also has a full size futon.

The cabin's kitchen has refrigerator, stove, microwave and double sink.

The dining room/living room has a gas fireplace.

The cabin is log and the floors are hardwood with braided rugs.

No Wifi. Cell phones get reception.

THE BUNKHOUSE offers a full/twin bunkbed, shower and sink. The bunkhouse is a simpler space, offers a quiet retreat at the end of the day for a second family or couple to enjoy solitude and privacy separate from the cabin. The bunkhouse is only 15 steps away from the cabin and has a lake view.

Cell phone reception. No Wifi.

About Kurt Nickel

We are from Madison WI. Our family consists of Kurt, Kim, and KC and Nicole(kids) also Blue, and Bella(dogs).

Kurt Nickel purchased this cabin in 1994

Why Kurt Nickel chose Deerbrook

Kurt's Grandfather built the property which was sold in the 50's but we were able to keep in touch with the owners and buy it back in 94'

What makes this cabin unique

We have never had anyone who hasn't fallen in love with the uniqueness of the clean and simple pleasure of the cabin. The pictures just never do it justice till you drive down the driveway through the huge hemlocks.

Amazing property with wonderful views.

Excellent property. Truly a home away from home. This log cabin was so clean and beautiful. The owners sure go out of their way to make sure that their guests are treated very well. Cabin was very well stocked with everything that we needed. The shower even had shampoo, body soap. Lots of other amenities made this stay so comfortable and enjoyable. Thank you so very much for opening up your beautiful log cabin to me and my family.

Great rustic experience

  • 5 of 5

It was everything we hoped, except for the one morning it was 31 degrees and the "Taj Mahal" outhouse hits you with 31 degree air on your behind! Has everything you need for fishing, canoeing, cooking, and just hanging out with your family.

Cabin with a view

  • 5 of 5

Sitting on a peninsula gives the Nickel's cabin wonderful views of Deep Woods Lake. My wife and I woke up every morning to sunrise over the water out our bedroom window. The tall pines add to the north woods beauty.

The cabin is solidly built and the craftsmanship shows. It has been nicely updated. We were comfortable. The kitchen worked well and we ate most of our meals in the cabin.

There are piers on both sides of the point which make for good fishing or relaxing. We used the rowboat provided and paddled the canoe we brought.

Our adult children joined us for a weekend, and we rode in the Lakes and Leaves Bike Ride sponsored by the Antigo Chamber of Progress. The ride started in Summit Lake only 2.5 miles from the cabin, so we were able to ride there. The 38 mile loop on county roads took us through woods, farms, past lakes and streams and over just enough hills to be challenging.

Other activities we enjoyed were the walks at nearby Veteran's Memorial Park on the Ice Age Trail, trout fishing on the Hunting River, and a visit to the Grandview Apple Orchard.

Kurt and his sister Ellen were responsive to my emails and phone calls before the visit. We found everything in order and had no issues with cabin. Overall a very fine fall vacation in a lovely spot.

Great property...

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with our 3 kids (2 in college/1 in HS) and two frenchies. We loved the property and the privacy. It was a perfect escape and opportunity to unplug, connect as a family, and enjoy a beautiful lake. We appreciated the use of the fishing boat and canoe as well. I thought this was an excellent property because it is truly a family cabin that they share with the rest of us...for that I am very thankful. You can tell it has a special history and it is a very unique property. I've seen a few people complain about the outhouse, etc. It isn't a modern property. It doesn't have wifi or a chef's kitchen. It is a little more rustic (although not terribly so) but more modern properties are all over the northwoods. So if this isn't your thing, look elsewhere...we loved it.

Two Weeks of Beauty and Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Nature abounds! Mornings are amazing here. 'Saw an eagle pluck a fish from the water 20' from pier, and three blue heron perched on the huge white pine above the cabin. Loon calls every day and King Fishers on the island. Canoeing on glass like water.

Hummingbirds at the nectar feeders and chipmunks at the seed feeders.

My nephew caught and released a 30" Northern Pike off the pier.

It's been a restful and joyous two weeks.
