About Heaven's Gate Escape/Donna Ensley

My husband is a native of this area and after working for GE and traveling the world he returned home to his roots to raise a family. He has hiked, fished and ridden horses in just about every area in this region. He also loves working on the farm. I have been in the area for 30 years and we have been married since 2011. Together we enjoy tending our vegetable gardens, riding and playing with the horses, hiking and boating. He is an avid golfer and I have clubs but would rather spend the day in the woods than on the golf course.

We thought we would try sharing the beauty of our home with others using VRBO.

Heaven's Gate Escape/Donna Ensley purchased this guest house in 1978

Why Heaven's Gate Escape/Donna Ensley chose Arden

My husband bought this beautiful property more than 40 years ago. He built a house around the original farm house that is more than 100 years old. The cabin has been fully updated and served as a guest house prior to using it for a VRBO.

What makes this guest house unique

Horse boarding while you stay with us, fishing on the property, private lake, private hiking trail, deer, turkey and occasional bears on the property. This is just a great place to hang out.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a treasure of you natural beauty you have. We so enjoyed our stay and found the relaxation we were seeking. We hope to see you again in the future.

perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

we absolutely loved our weekend trip to this cabin! donna was the perfect host and made it a point to greet us, even though we had a late arrival. we enjoyed speaking with her the next day! it’s the perfect mountain getaway, yet still close enough to Downtown to enjoy all that Asheville has to offer. we will definitely be back.

Beautiful and Realxing Escape

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend exploring Asheville. The property was even more beautiful than in the photos. We enjoyed a short trail hike on the property, hanging out with the horses while having morning coffee, and trying our luck fishing in the pond. The small touches, such as the welcome sign, basket, and recommendation guide made us feel welcomed. If you are looking to be close to Asheville, yet feel like you’re away from the city, this property is for you! Thank you Donna and Curtis for a wonderful weekend. We will be back!

Owner's Response: We enjoyed having Amanda and Clare stay with us. While they were only here for a short period of time they truly packed in a lot of fun and exploring in Asheville. We only hope that next time they come they will be able to stay longer.

Owner's Response: We loved having Cheryl and Art stay with us, they left the cabin in great order. The only problem was we were out of town and did not get to meet them. Hope they will come back again soon when the flowers are in bloom.

Peaceful retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Gracious hosts and a lovely cabin with lots of special touches that made our visit even more enjoyable. About a 25 minutes drive / $20 uber ride to downtown Asheville and other local attractions. We enjoyed the fire pit, fishing pond, meeting the horses, beautiful views! We also visited local breweries, Biltmore Estate & Grove Park Inn. Would definitely visit again and recommend to friends!!!

Asheville speaks for itself and is worth the visit. We love all the outdoor activities in this area, especially hiking, horse back riding, golf, fishing and biking......and remember it is Beer City - so after an active day it is easy to unwind with a great local brew.
