Create Family Memories Near Durango Mountain Resort

Bedrooms 3
Property type chateau / country house
Minimum Stay 3 - 5 nights

About the property

Country House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8), lake and mountain views

Durango, Colorado holds the beauty of a vanished world. It is the most tranquil place mixed with history, recreation, and unerasable memories. Our 2600+ square foot custom home is nestled in the mountains overlooking beautiful Lake Purgatory. The brilliance of Engineer and Spud Mountain can be seen to the North, and to the East the Animas River which flows through the La Plata Mountains.

The home was created by the hands of a master with each window intricately creating a new view of the lake. Giant doors lead you onto a deck where you'll find a hot tub that you can soak in after your daily activities. At night the sky is so black, you'll feel like you're sitting under an umbrella of stars. The night is so peaceful you can hear the fish in the water. You'll be located at an elevation of 9000 feet somewhere in the vicinity of the gods. The interior is very comfortable with all luxurious amenities that will connect you back to the real world. Now that you've found the perfect place to visit, look no further for a place to stay.

You can walk out and fish for brook trout in the backyard. We have a canoe you can take out to fish the lake. It is a private lake so you won't see many others. Summer is the busy season in Durango, you can ride the train, hike, bike, bobsled at the ski area across the street, horseback riding, gold panning or rest and read a book. We are 26 miles north of Durango. If you have any questions please feel free to call. Experience Durango, Colorado.

“In the winter, a 4WD/AWD vehicle equipped with snow tires or chains is required in this area, please be prepared.”

Amazing rental home

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent 4 incredible days at this lake house and cannot wait to come back again, hopefully soon. The place is so pretty with all kinds of views of the lake and fall colors, spacious home where the two little grandkids could enjoy themselves. Being out on the boat was so exciting for them as well. The home is well stocked and has very comfortable rooms, large kitchen & dining area and the pictures don't do it justice. Thanks Marcia for all your hospitality. Would definitely recommend this place but sure hope it's available next time we can make it there. Al/Kay, NE

OMG! What a wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

This was one of the most beautiful places we have stayed! The house was beautiful and spacious, the scenery was great and the fishing was so much fun! I am from SC and me and my daughter from here with her family met my other daughter and her family in Denver and drove to Durango. We stayed five nights and had a wonderful time. We enjoyed using the boats to cruise around the lake with the kids. We were able to do some fishing and caught 3 different types of trout, one weighing over five pounds. We were close to Pagosa Springs, Durango, Silverton, and Mesa Verde for sightseeing. I would recommend this home to everyone looking to have the perfect vacation.

Great Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We’ve been coming to the lake house for several years now and it never ceases to bring a smile to our faces. Between the open floor plan and great views of the outdoors it’s a perfect place to unwind. Our kids were young adults when we first started coming and they just loved the place. This year was the first time we had the older grandkids along. We still had plenty of space and adventures right outside the door. It was fun to watch the “city” grandkids running around exploring. They spent hours along the shoreline, up the creek, and in the paddleboats. No video games needed here. We took an afternoon and went over to the ski resort. In succession the gk’s did the Alpine slide, bungee trampoline, rope course, and zip line. You never saw kids so happy to escape the summer heat and be back outside. With its location just off hwy 550 the house is also a perfect base for day trips in the Durango area. Over the years we have gone whitewater rafting, rode the D&SNG railroad, watched the fireworks in Silverton, sampled the farmers market in Telluride, and hiked the Hermosa Creek trail just to name a few. Each year we’ve had a great time and each summer kids ask us “What days are you going to be back at the lake house?” :)

Amazing, Wonderful, After Christmas Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd vacation at Lake Purgatory Lodge because we had such a wonderful time the 1st time. It was summer the 1st visit and we couldn't wait to go back in the winter. What an incredible Winter Wonderland! It took our breathe away when we drove up and saw all the snow!!! There are no words to describe how wonderfully comfortable you feel when you walk in the house. Plenty of room, very clean, everything you need is provided, and the Views....... Spectacular!!! Our daughter, son-in-law and twin grandsons (babies) were with us and we had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy ourselves! Sledding and fun in the snow right there around the house, hot chocolate by the fire and watching the beautiful night sky in the hot tub! The ski slopes just minutes from the house. We had dinner one night & took the Polar Express Train ride in Durango, highly recommend this, even if you don't have young children! We loved watching a little fox on the snow covered lake from the large kitchen windows every morning. We will definitely be planning future vacations at Lake Purgatory Lodge, it may have to become a Tradition!

The best get away spot

  • 5 of 5

Pictures on here do not even do this wonderful lake house justice. From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home. Everything was very neat and clean. We enjoyed lounging around watching the Beavers during the day and the stars at night. The house came fully stocked with kitchen gadgets, cookware, games, books, movies, blankets, towels, toiletries, and much more. I really felt this house was a vacation within a vacation. The next time we go, we will have zero activities planned just so we can enjoy what this house has to offer.
