Unique Spacious Dwelling
Two kitchens but minimal closet space & not for anyone having mobility issues. Fishing & canoeing were not what we anticipated. However, spectacular views, great hot tub & perfect weather made for a wonderful family vacation.
We loved the house, plenty of room for our extended family, kids and grandkids. The grandkids enjoyed paddling the canoe around the lake. Beautiful views from the three decks. The garage space was a bonus for storing all of gear. Perfectly located halfway between Durango and Silverton, right across from Purgatory resort. The only downside was the mosquitos, but a little Off took care of that. The front door was a little tricky, remember to push the button on the edge of the door so you don't lock yourself out.
Beautiful home, Beautiful property, Beautiful area!
Overall, our stay was wonderful! The home & property are beautiful - we enjoyed exploring it & enjoyed the serene lake & scenery (even though the lake level was low due to the drought...also we were sad that the zipline was broken). I wish I could have packed up the scenery & the cool, refreshing morning air & taken it home with me! The lake had a couple resident beavers & some ducks, & I think some geese, & there was one evening that we saw a bald eagle in a tree on the opposite side of the lake! The huge kitchen is absolutely amazing. Everything you could ever need & beautiful appliances - I especially loved the big frig & the digital toaster! The kitchen is well stocked with seasonings, pots & pans, etc. Home is well stocked with extra pillows, toilet paper, etc. All the bedrooms were nice & comfy & clean...likewise the bathrooms. The gameroom could use some attention though - old/torn carpet & some bugs in the window sill & closet. One complaint about the Bear bathroom & Bear bedroom - the lighting is VERY dim in both. Other than that, the room was comfortable & the views from the bear room - stunning! I loved waking up to the views & to the birds chirping every morning! Wish I could have taken that view home with me too! The kids in our group loved the loft area. We all loved the large dining table & comfortable living room. The older kids in our group (& even some adults!) enjoyed the game room, especially the pool table! ...Although the room is not quite wide enough to make some of the shots. We used that small pool stick that someone made - very ingenious! But, because the small stick didn't have a proper chalked end on it, most of our shots using this stick were horrible, LOL! Overall, we all loved the home & had a wonderful time. Only the minor issues mentioned...oh, ALSO - the front door handle/lock would sometimes get stuck in the locked position & it couldn't be opened from the outside. I really think this issue should be addressed soon. The owner & the caretaker are both great. Right before our scheduled stay, the wildfires caused temporary closures in the area, so the owner delayed taking our final payment until we were certain that the wildfire danger had passed. The caretaker was nice & did a great job removing trash, answering questions, etc. Again, we loved our stay, loved your home & we hated to leave. We will definitely stay again if the opportunity arises! (also, it was fun adding a rock to the collection!)
We love to share our home with families so they can make lasting memories. So glad you stayed at our home.
The incredible beauty, privacy, and comfort of this home and it's setting is next to none! Our family was especially impressed with the kitchen and main room with its views of Lake Purgatory. The bonus: superb fishing! Monster browns and rainbows that are worth a picture with each catch and release! Close to paradise, we highly recommend a long stay here for all those wishing to enjoy a place to "get away from it all."
Only 2 recommendations.
1) Maybe consider a stair lift of some sort to accommodate the handicapped or elderly (and possibly convert part of entry level game room into an extra bedroom w/bath).
2) Convert the loft into an extra bedroom, as well (something John the caretaker mentioned the owners are already planning).
We shall return!

Perfect place for our spring break party of 13
Enjoyed our stay at this beautiful house. It had plenty of room for our 3 families to spread out. Our only complaint is that we needed more towels and wash cloths and that the house seemed extreamly dry giving us all nose bleeds that we haven't experienced before. Other than those small issues it was a perfect place for our spring break getaway. Being only about 2 mintues from the slopes was definitely a bonus!! We had one small issue with us tripping a breaker or something taking out our hot water. John the caretaker was there within two minutes... he is awesome! Try it out...we highly recommend it!
Another Great Stay!!!
Recently, we stayed at this wonderful place for a second consecutive year as we skied at Purgatory - which is only a mile away. The setting is gorgeous and the house is magnificent. The owner is fantastic to work with, and the local contact is extremely friendly and helpful.

The Villa is at Lake Purgatory, less than a mile from downhill skiing at Durango mountain Resort.
