Our 2nd Great Year / Historical log cabin with private beach, 300 Ft Front

Bedrooms 2
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

Historic Log Cabin with wide open water views. Great for fun on the water.

A big thank you to all of our 2017 five star guests!

What's new for 2018? We will have two person canoe or kayak and a paddle board for your use.

You will step back in time when you stay at this preserved historic log house (circa 1790). The old log house is now equipped with a galley kitchen that has an electric stove, ref.,kk sink, blender, toaster, coffee maker, microwave, and stacked washer/dryer. There is a dining area adjacent to the kitchen, as well as another on the lake front outside porch. The second room on the main floor is a living area with TV/DVD, futon, and hammock which is great for naps.

The second floor of the log home has a bath with pedestal sink, toilet, and bath tub. There are two bedrooms upstairs (one large bedroom with two twin beds and a queen bed; the second bedroom with a queen bed). Each bedroom has its own pedestal sink. But don't worry, this old log house now has central air conditioning and heat as well as a fireplace and wood stove downstairs!

This interesting and unique old log cabin is located on very private, wooded property and is geared to outdoor fun and living. In addition to the inside bathroom, there is an outdoor shower with hot/cold water. A covered outdoor cooking area with a 5 burner gas grill, under counter ref. and water is available for added convenience. If you prefer cooking out with charcoal or wood, there is also a lakeside fire pit and charcoal grill with water. The dock area is large, with a table, umbrella, slide, and rope swing. The beach is sandy and gently sloping which is great for small children. Also, two kayaks along with other lake toys are available for use. The fun won't stop when the sun goes down, because the dock, all cooking areas, and paths are well illuminated with outdoor lighting.

This property is located on a peninsula in a small community with a quiet private road that's great for family walks or jogging.

Hidden Gem

David and Carmen are wonderful hosts! This little cabin in the woods has everything you need for a great time at SML. They thought of everything you could need to have an amazing vacation. The outside cooking area is awesome , outside shower was perfect( they even provide soft fluffy robes!) plus all the fixings for great campfires by the water. We didn’t want to leave and are already planning our return

Thanks for a great vacation

Much love

We didn't want to leave!

Dave's cabin was the perfect home away from home. The cabin is beautifully restored, the woodwork and stonework are meticulous, and the personal touches (fresh flowers, bath robes) were much appreciated. The beds were very comfortable, and the hammocks (one by the dock and one in the living room!!) were great for napping. The indoor kitchen is snug but manageable (we had three people in it at once!), and has most everything you need for any meal. Our favorite spots were the outdoor shower, the front porch (great for coffee in the morning or family dinner), and--of course--the dock! From the rope swing to the slide to the shallow beach, it's the ultimate spot to unwind. The water was perfect for swimming and kayaking, clear and calm with just a few waves when boats or jet skis went by. I can't remember a more relaxing vacation, and would highly recommend Dave's cabin looking for a lakefront getaway. We're already thinking about going back and it's only been three days since we left!

Very unique and complete.

The owner of the property, David, will meet you upon arrival. It is obvious how much time and attention to detail he has invested in the property. We could not have had a better week of Vac. I spent it with my wife, and daughters 17 and 11 years old. They enjoyed the dock and swimming. Except for an occasional boat ride, we never left the cabin. After a food run, we did all our cooking at the cabin because the layout was perfect with the outside cooking area. I would recommend this cabin to everyone, but afraid it will be too hard to find an availiae week for our selves to rent again in the future. This will be our Vac spot for many years to come..

Stunning and historic vacation on SML!

  • 5 of 5

Can't recommend this spot enough (or meet the character limit)! We had the best vacation at this beautiful, historic cabin. It was our first time visiting SML & we can't wait to return. This house had everything we needed for an awesome vacation: lake toys (multiple kayaks, paddle board, canoe, slide, swings, floaties, noodles, chairs, extra towels), well stocked kitchen tools, lots of outdoor space, amazing views, sloping beaches. The owner's daughter greeted us on arrival & showed us how to find everything. She was hugely helpful in making sure we had everything we needed for a great vacation! The cabin itself is super cozy, incredibly well cared for with gorgeous antiques, & the photos really don't do it justice. It was spotlessly clean, very quaint, & had space for all the things we needed. The AC worked very well for such an old house & there were fans in several rooms to keep you comfortable overnight. The kitchen is a galley style with a 4-burner electric stove & full sized oven. There is no dishwasher, but all the supplies you need to wash dishes by hand. There are plenty of dishes to feed multiple people at the same time. The staircase can be closed off & is steeper than modern staircases, but our dog didn't have any trouble mastering it's old fashioned style. One grill is commercial grade infrared & was quite powerful. There were hoses all over the place to rinse off your feet or toys. The dock was large & next to a gentle sloping beach into the water. We spent most of our time there, where the dog could play in the shallow water & stay near us on the dock. We fished off the dock without much success, but enjoyed it! There was an affordable, dog friendly marina <2 mi away where we rented a boat and explored the lake. There is no internet or cable (as advertised), but we didn't have any issues accessing 4G LTE from Verizon all over the lake (even on the boat in the middle of it). The beds were soft and all linens / towels were provided. We always bring our own pillows. We also brought some of our own kitchen tools, like good knives and some grill supplies. We would have been fine using what was provided, but if cook a lot, you may feel better with a few of your own specific supplies. We made a lot of use of our dog exercise pen to keep her near us, off leash, since this house is close to a (very low speed limit) neighborhood street. Loved the outdoor shower (which is big enough for two)!

Thanks for a great vacation! We hope to return!

A True Gem!

This VRBO was incredible! It was compact, but had everything you could need to be very comfortable. The dock and swimming area were lovely - you could jump off or wade in. We had an evening fire down at the fire pit area with the lanterns on, listening to the lake sounds. You could just feel the work that went into the place - what a labor of love! It was our first time Smith Mountain Lake and we will be back!
