Beech Mountain Retreat in the Woods with hot tub views wildlife wheelchair acce

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,100 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Perfect place to retreat for a week or two- relax, ski, bike, hike, birdwatch

Retreat to our mountain hideaway! We love to share our home with guests who love nature as much as we do. We have covered wrap around porches with views of the woods on one side and the mountains on the other. You can sit in the spacious 8 person hot tub on the deck and meditate with the woods all around you and at night see the milky way and constellations. In the morning you can see the glow on the mountains as the sun rises and you drink your coffee on the front deck or in the front sun room (near the fireplace in the winter). For lunch you might want to eat at the screened in picnic table with the mountains as your backdrop or watch the hummingbirds buzz around their feeders in the warmer months on the private back deck.

The 2 bedrooms each have comfortable queen sized beds. From the master bedroom you can walk out on the deck to watch the sun rise, the second bedroom has an attached bathroom. A third guest or couple could sleep on the comfortable full size futon, which is located in the sunroom (there are light-proof curtains in this room)The rest of the house has a very open floor plan. If you want to cook in our kitchen, we have all the amenities you might need from cookware and a gas stove/oven, to serving dishes and utensils. You can have dinner at the open dining room table with 4 beautiful hand made chairs (the table can seat 6), in the screened in front area with the picnic table where 8 could dine with a mountain view or at the table on the back deck overlooking the woods. After dinner relax on the comfy couch in front of the gas log fireplace and watch a movie on the flat screen tv.

Drive over to Grandfather Mountain or Roan Mountain to hike, bike or drive or just walk out the front door to go for a hike and see deer, turkey, rabbits, ravens, hawks and if you are lucky, a bobcat or bear! Some of the most scenic road biking in the nation is right out the front door or if skiing/snowboarding is your thing, you are 20 minutes from Sugar Mountain or Ski Beech skiing, and just 10 minutes from one of 11 Golf Courses in Avery County! Take a drive or bike on the Blue Ridge Parkway which is only 20 miles from the cabin. You could also swim or picnic in the warmer months at the beautiful Elk River Falls, only minutes away! There are many fine restaurants in Banner Elk (6miles away), Beech Mountain (11miles) and even Boone (ASU) is only 24miles away.

The cabin is all on one level except the 2 sunrooms which each have a step down into them (the one overlooking the woods is where the futon is) and the bathroom off the 2nd bedroom has a step down. Most of the floors are hardwood with tongue-in-groove oak walls which gives the cozy feeling of a mountain chalet. Parking is level and the house is easily accessible for mobility challenged individuals.

You will have a peaceful and private getaway at our home in the North Carolina mountains

Perfect Mountain Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

I had such an incredible time staying in this property. The view from the deck is breathtaking. I spent my mornings watching the sun rise over the mountains from the sunroom since it was too cold to actually sit outside. The back deck is just as lovely with a private hot tub where you can see stars for miles. The cabin was very clean and loaded with games, DVD's and books. There were some amazing hiking trails not far away. I recommend checking out Elk River Falls - short drive and even shorter hike, but they are absolutely stunning. Grocery store and restaurants are also a short distance away.

The owner, Kirsty, is also an absolute joy to rent from. She made sure that I had everything I needed to have the perfect stay. I will definitely be returning when it warms up!

Also, for those concerned about no wifi, I have AT&T and had service in the cabin.

Easily a five star stay! Thanks, Kirsty!

Unique cabin with eclectic decor. Hot tub was great!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time during our weekend stay. The cabin was warm and cozy and we loved the natural light. We didn't turn on the TV the whole time, but instead, enjoyed games, puzzles and the hot tub. Very laid back owner, which is always appreciated.

Fall Get Away

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay very much. Views were great, watching sun come up and light up mountains and then seeing it set over mountains was awesome. Most porches and decks were covered and one screened. One was not covered and hot tub was not covered. Inside was very clean and comfortable. Wife raved about bed, best night’s sleep she has had in long time. There are three cabins close by but plenty of privacy. Our only problem was no Wi-Fi and TV only had DVD. We had brought books and spent lots of time just talking. Roads to property were very good. We plan on coming back.

Ski beech and sugar mountain
Car: necessary

There are so many things to do in the area it is hard to know where to start. We are close to Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain ski resorts where if you are not in the season to ski, snowboard, sled or tube there are great mountain biking trails.

Banner Elk is 15 minutes away where you will find ample shopping, antiquing, all kinds of restaurants from some of the finest in North Carolina to local fare and fast food.

Grandfather Mountain is 20 miles away, so this a great location for the Highland Games in July. Grandfather Mountain also boasts a winery, horseback riding and a zoo amongst a host of other activities including great hiking and bouldering areas.

Roan Mountain (15 minutes away) has a wonderful Rhododendron Festival in June, lots of hiking in the State Park, one of the best wood-fired pizza and bread bakeries around (Smokey Mountain Bakers) and the Appalachian Trail goes through it!

If you wanted to go for a picnic and a swim in warm weather, take a drive over to Elk River Falls (20 minutes away) in the Pisgah National Forest and see the 50' wall of water coming down. If you want to challenge yourself or get some great excersise, you can swim out to it against the current! There is a short .3mile hike out to the rocks for some great picnicking.

For cycling enthusiasts, you are in one of the best road biking areas in the country. You can hop on your bike out the door and ride to your hearts content on hilly country roads with wide open views and little traffic. The Blue Ridge Parkway is about 30 minutes away and is a wonderful ride whether on bicycle, motor bike or in a car.

You could drive over to Boone (24 miles away) and catch a game at ASU or just shop and dine to your heart's content.

If you just want to relax at the cabin, there is lots of hiking and walking right out the door. There are morels hidden in the woods, lots of wild flowers year round. Blackberries come in late summer and line the road, there are a couple cherry trees and a peach tree in the yard as well as apple trees which are found all over the area. Pick to your hearts content, there's usually something fruiting all summer long!

If birdwatching is your thing, you won't have to go further than your chair if you choose. Hummingbirds, ravens, turkeys, bluebirds, finches, sapsuckers and woodpeckers, hawks, owls, warblers, vireos, pheasant ,etc. Of course you will see deer, rabbits, squirrels possibly opossum and raccoon, and if you are lucky bobcat or bear and if you are very lucky the coyotes will sing to you while you relax in the hot tub!

At night, there is little light pollution so on a clear night you can see the milky way and all the constellations of the season!
