About the property

Apartment, Studio + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

Gorgeous, brand new, modern home with attached studio apartment in established neighborhood of beautiful Boulder, Colorado. Designed by Dwell featured architect, the house was constructed with green materials and techniques, including solar powered radiant floor heat. Although the apartment is attached to the main house, it is totally private with double insulation between the dwellings, for extra peace and quiet.

The apartment has its own exterior entrance to the second floor dwelling, which has views of the mountains. The space is 450 square feet, with an open floor plan, very spacious with nine foot vaulted ceilings, tons of light, and a European style efficiency kitchen, cable TV and a new 22" flat screen TV. The Danish made futon/bed (brand name Innovation) has a foam mattress on top extra comfort. Plenty of space for storage. Full bath includes adjustable/detachable shower head, towel shelf and rack, fan, and heated concrete floors. The studio is best for one or two people, but can accommodate three.

Just a few blocks away from trail heads, one can spend the whole day hiking. Located along bike path with access to great mountain biking and road biking close-by. Perfect for scientists visiting NCAR, NIST, and NOAA. Local skiing 45 minutes away, world class skiing a few hours away. IDEAL LOCATION.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Thank you so much for accommodating us while we were between homes. The apt was comfortable and cozy and the location is great. While we're certainly looking forward to our new home in the 'burbs we will definitely miss our daily walks to Wild Oats."

Best in Boulder - a cozy spot in a terrific location!

  • 5 of 5

My stay started with a warm welcome from the family dog, Penny, and it went up from there. The location is so convenient for exploring Boulder and the surrounding area. The views are lovely too. Jen and Derek are gracious and knowledgeable hosts who have made a very comfortable spot to live while you are visiting Boulder, The neighborhood is quiet with hiking, bike sharing, and bus lines just a few blocks away. I was there for 3+ weeks and it felt like my home away from home!

Perfect place to explore Boulder from

  • 5 of 5

The property was exactly as described. The apartment is very comfortable and the host-dog Penny is sweet. The BCycle bike share location is a short walk from the house and then a comfortable 1.5 mi to downtown (Pearl St). We rented bikes from University Bicycles ( and were able to hit a few trails from town (Betasso Preserve, Chapman Drive) (I would recommend renting an SUV to get to further trails like Hall Ranch). I also recommend the Chautauqua Preserve for hiking (Royal Arch is great!). It is convenient to restaurants, groceries and the highways to head into the mountains (Peak to Peak Drive, the national forests and Rocky Mountain National Park). The hosts are wonderful. I can't recommend enough!

Convenient, cozy, and clean

  • 4 of 5

Loved the location near Pearl Street and near to our son who we came to visit. Owners were very friendly and responsive. Place was very bright, clean and quiet, and the futon bed was very, very firm (A little too firm for my partner but it worked okay for me).

Owner's Response: Thanks Bob. We're very glad that you enjoyed your stay. Our apologies on the firm mattress. We had a memory foam topper that was accidentally taken by a previous longer-term tenant. We didn't realize that it was missing, but it has since been replaced. The bed should be much more comfortable now.

I could live here

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Derek & Jen's super cute studio in mid-August. The space is extremely well designed and makes for an enjoyable stay. Very comfortable bed, efficient and well-stocked kitchen, nice bathroom, very quiet. It really felt like home for the time we where there and would be comfortable for a much longer stay. Don't even consider staying at chain hotel instead of The Lab; much better value. Good location, too. Not super close to downtown but less than 5 minutes by car to the Chatauqua and NCAR hiking trails, both of which are highly recommended. An added bonus was Penny the Amazing Non-Barking Dog. Derek & Jen's adorable pooch has the run of the back yard and was always there to greet us through the fence when we left in the morning and returned at night. Derek & Jen were very friendly and gracious hosts as well. An all around great stay, would love to come back.

my stay at the labhouse was excellent. the apt was the perfect size for one, although two good friends could stay together comfortably. everything was neat and clean, the bed was wonderfully comfortable, and everything necessary was provided. the neighborhood was quiet and easily accessible. I found my way around to the grocery store, coffee shops, laundromat and hiking trails very easily. I highly recommend this experience!

We had an excellent two-week stay at this lovely studio and would definitely stay there again as well as recommend this property to friends and family. As an added bonus, our visits with Milo were true highlights of the vacation - thanks for being wonderful hosts!
