Why Scott and Lynn Johnson chose West Virginia

Lynn and I picked this property specifically for the flat open space on the top of the mountain. It's the only property like it in the area. Our goal was to have a place our kids could enjoy, play football, soccer, bike, hike, paintball, etc. It really has worked perfectly for us and we hope you could enjoy it the same way we have over the years

Guestbook comments from the owner

We just wanted to say thank you. We had an amazing time. Your house was wonderful as always. We look forward to renting from you next year.

Great house in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a wedding for 80 people here, and it was the most amazing venue for it. The guests were awed at the natural beauty, and we were thrilled at how functional and perfect the cabin was for everything we needed in such a remote location. Scott and Lynn were incredibly helpful in making sure we had all of the information we needed. The house was spotless and well-equipped. The big deck and bonfire pit are incredible. We can't wait to come back.

Great big cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at the cabin. It was a great time for family togetherness. In addition to games that we had brought there we many there for us to use. The kids had a great time playing pool and ping pong and we did some s'more roasting at the fire pit. The only down side to the trip was we didn't realize the activities at Snowshoe Mountain were not yet available on M-W, but the suggested swimming holes in the binder that the owners provided entertained the kids just as much. The kitchen had pretty much anything you could imagine. Overall, an excellent trip.

Mountain Top Tranquility

  • 4 of 5

Lynn and Scott, Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us. Being a group of 4 couples the house was perfect. We each had our own room and bath. The house was clean when we arrived. I have to say the trip up to the house was an experience. You are on a gravel road for about 2 miles. Once up there, you will see it is worth the trip. The house sits atop a ridge with a fantastic view. We loved the new deck. Wonderful point to view the stars. Large gathering room and dinning room to seat all. The kitchen was well stocked with all the little items you will forget to bring. We found it easy to navigate with four women. The island was perfect to set up a buffet. Many pots, pans, and dishes. It took only 30 minutes to reach the Cass Railway. A must do. On the way home we visited the Observatory which was an added plus to the trip. The house had an extra BR which we did not use. Also, a dormitory type room which would be perfect for all your children. Thank you again for sharing the house with us.

Lovely big house with stunning views.

  • 4 of 5

Long drive up on a twisting gravel mountain road which we were glad we only met one car going the other way once. The views were outstanding from the large deck with plenty of seating. First night there, we had a beautiful sunset and the sky was loaded with stars. We really enjoyed the outdoor fireplace under the covered deck (we had rain the other evenings). Firewood was split , dry and plenty for our use. The house accommodated our group eight adults and six children. Pool table, ping pong in basement was a hit with our group as was the huge back yard for more family games. Beds were comfortable and linens were clean but the house seemed to have been in need of a good dusting throughout before we arrived Plenty of towels were provided. Kitchen was well stocked but it would have been nice to have no-stick fry pans and maybe more forks. Our families drove over to the Village of Snowshoe and kids enjoyed zip line, climbing wall and trampoline there. Owners were quick to respond with any questions.

Nice place but house was dirty.

  • 2 of 5

Nice house. But the house was dirty. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Couldn't get the wifi to work either. Owner said there's no password but there was no unlocked networks.

Owner's Response: Sorry about that timing with the construction. We had a short amount of time to get the new windows, doors, siding and double sized deck in place leaving the cabin open to the elements for week. We just finished the deep clean after construction crews were done. Someone had broken the cable tab for the modem line and at the same time did a complete factory reset on the cable modem. It just needed to be plugged back in after looking at it.
