About the property

A Couple's Retreat on a farm

Mountain Ranch Retreat is a just that - a beautiful ranch in the mountains where you can kick back and relax to multiple mountain vistas! Whether that be from the large deck while you eat breakfast, the hot tub, your private fire pit or vistas viewed from inside the barn house, you will find yourself embraced by the beauty of our farm, back dropped by the North Georgia mountains. Renovated in 2017, our retreat is actually the second floor of our state of the art horse barn.

Upon pulling up the drive, you are greeted by our Mountain Ranch Retreat sign, with a full sized horse head welcoming you to the property. Just inside the main door, the entrance to our retreat is the first door on your right. When you enter, the warm rustic staircase beckons you to see what's at the top!

Our great room features high ceilings with rustic wood beam veneers and beautiful mountain vistas at eye level. Professionally decorated, the living room area features two couches adorned with horse blankets, big plush pillows and comfy throws, a set of tables made from upcycled shutters and scrap iron, placed on a cowhide rug. Our antique armoire hides a complete entertainment system with a flat screen TV with cable, including the sports channels, VCR and DVD players. The adjacent kitchen features a granite countertop, oak cabinetry and stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher and Keurig coffee maker.

The sliding glass door between the kitchen and living room area leads to the deck featuring an outdoor dining area, grill and hot tub with multiple mountain vistas.

Back inside, the very large master suite features a luxurious oversized bed, with a pillow top mattress, pillows of all sizes and a cream duvet cover wrapped around a down duvet for the perfect night's sleep. Matching nightstands and dresser complete the set, with toy leather horses and cowboy pictures rounding out the equestrian decor package. An oak electric fireplace sits in the corner for those cold winter nights. Our game table doubles as a great place to sit and just enjoy the beautiful view. Our wildlife will amaze you and who knows what will be in the pasture or barnyard during your stay!

Our large master bathroom is well appointed with a large shower, rustic cream barn board, a double vanity with a granite countertop, lone star copper sinks and faucets. A one of a kind large rustic mirror and accent lighting sits across the entire vanity. The laundry room is located just off the master bath.

Outside features a cauldron fire pit, supplied with firewood, just perfect for roasting marshmallows or curling up for a romantic evening. Nearby, the tree frogs croak, thrilled with their small landscaped pond and water pump. There is also an outside dining area, as an alternative to the deck.

If you have a horse, they can come too! We have 1 extra stall with padded floors*, with easy turnstile feeders, a covered dry lot, and almost 5 acres of fenced in pasture with numerous trees for shade. The circular drive provides an easy turn around for horse trailers and we have one large parking spot just for trailers. Electric Hookup for camper trailers is adjacent to the barn, for an extra fee. (*Stall is not always available. Updated vet and shot records required.)

Area activities include fishing, tubing, kayaking, trail rides, Harrah’s Valley River Casino, hiking, bird watching, fall leaf viewing, fine dining, Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, and zip lining. All within approximately 30 minutes or less.

Wednesdays are always $50.00 OFF with a mid-week, 3 night or longer booking! (Monday - Thursday, excludes Holidays.) Contact cabin owner for details. You must mention this promotion prior to booking in order to receive this discount!

While we try at all costs to give our guests complete privacy, this is a working farm with horses and chickens, so we do go over to the property (lower barn only) to service the animals, typically twice a day, for horse care and training. Guests are on the upper level, so we may not even see each other, but want to make sure our animal servicing and training is fully disclosed.

Lastly, we are a NO PETS property!! No exceptions!! We pride ourselves on delivering a very clean home to all of our guests and we would like our beautiful pine floors to stay beautiful!

Please see our other properties at VRBO #746521 and VRBO#1160139.

About Ellen and Dan Smith

We live in the N. Georgia mountains and have two more vacation rentals. One on the Toccoa River - VRBO #746521 and one on Fightingtown Creek - VRBO #1160139. Creekside Veranda on Fightingtown Creek is a 5-star 3/2, Keith Sumner home. We strive to give our guests a 5-star experience at all of our vacation homes!!

Ellen and Dan Smith purchased this cabin in 2016

Why Ellen and Dan Smith chose McCaysville

We purchased this farm in 2016. There was a bonus house above our state of the art horse barn. Since we have other cabin rentals and we know that beautiful views, and well appointed cabins are what visitors want, we decided to remodel our barn house, making it a cozy, professionally decorated space we can share with guests, and their horses, should they want to bring them on vacation too!

What makes this cabin unique

Beautiful mountain vistas are the backdrop to our farm. We have facilities under the barn house (main level, house is on 2nd level) where we can hold special events, such as weddings, but also a fully fenced in pasture, dry lot, state of the art horse stalls for those on the go with their horses.

My husband and I had the most relaxing and enjoyable time. The Mountain Ranch Retreat was everything we expected and more. The furnishings were nice, the kitchen well stocked and everything was very clean!!! Ellen and Dan are wonderful hosts and we so enjoyed meeting them and getting to see the baby chicks! We will be back!

Incredibly beautiful! Breathtaking interior and view!

  • 5 of 5

Ellen and Dan, the owners, are thoughtful and caring individuals. I’ve never experienced hospitality as warm and embracing as I did during my stay at their Mountain Retreat over the past 5 days. I left this morning with such a renewed sense of peace.

I look forward to returning to Elken and Dan’s slice of heaven again soon!

Wonderful Weekend Escape!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed spending our anniversary weekend at Mountain Ranch Retreat. The hosts were welcoming and friendly, and although the rental is on the same property as their home it still felt quite private and secluded.

We rent frequently in North Georgia and this place is truly one of a kind. We loved waking up in the morning and seeing horses in the field from the bedroom window. Ellen happened to see us outside loading up the car for a day of exploring and brought over 2 baby ducks for a quick visit! This property is really well furnished and has an incredibly comfortable king bed. The hot tub offered a great place for morning coffee and nighttime stargazing. We highly recommend this property, and we hope to return in the future! Thanks Dan and Ellen!

Very quiet, beautiful scenery, spacious 1 bedroom apartment that was well stocked

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was elegant and obviously put together with care. The kitchen was very thoroughly stocked with supplies, plenty of towels, comfortable furniture, very clean with no smiles. The hot tub was extremely comfortable. The brochures on the coffee table were very helpful and so are Dan and Ellen.

The perfect, romantic getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I came here for our Anniversary and it was perfect! Very clean and it had everything we needed. Dan and Ellen were so nice and if we had any questions they were very helpful. It was really awesome to be able to see the horses gazing. We also enjoyed sitting in the hot tub and seeing all the beautiful stars at night! Great Experience! Thank you Dan and Ellen!
