The home is lovely and has lots of space outside for enjoying the clear air and the greenery. The hot tub is very welcoming after a hike or just to look at the sky at night.
I can't say enough nice things about our stay, we had a group of 10 and it fit all of us comfortably, it's in a great location, that is close to everything but quiet as well. There was lots to do and it was just the perfect Alaskan experience.
The Preston’s house was the perfect space for our family gathering. Everything was clean and easy to find. The property was beautiful and everyone had lots of fun being together in one space.
I loved everything about our stay. The place was clean and cozy, and the massage chair was a very cool bonus (once you figure out how to set it up for YOU so it doesn't actually hurt).
10/10 would stay here again. Glimpsed a moose and her baby whizzing by one day.
The home is beautiful in a wonderful setting- it was well equipped for our family of 10, including our 4 grandchildren. The master bedroom and bathroom was absolutely spectacular. We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit. Our Hosts were great to work with, The Hamilton Family from Bellefonte PA
Truly enjoyed our stay. We had 11 family members - all adults - staying together. The house came equipped with everything we needed - including spices, shampoos, detergent. Perfect place for visiting the Anchorage area. We day-tripped to several other towns. Even saw a moose in the front yard! Highly recommend!
Incredibly sweet home and place to stay. The house was so comfortable and clean. We would come back. We went to Anchorage a lot but never found a way that took 15 minutes-All GPS says 20-25. That did not hinder our trips nor detract from our stay-we loved it here!

Thank you for staying in our home!! We should probably edit that time - it's 16.2 miles from our house to the Tikahtnu Commons area of Anchorage where there are many restaurants, shopping, theater, etc, and we might drive a little fast. HA! The next time we edit it, we will adjust to 20 minutes. We look forward to hosting you again!
our entire family - 3 generations - stayed here. It is perfect. We spend a few days exploring central Alaska before taking the train to Seward to board a cruise ship. the house is just ideal - plenty of room, well appointed kitchen, great, private location. I could go on. I'd stay here again for sure the next time we are in Alaska.

Great to have Greg and his family at our place! Respectful and friendly- would love to host them again!
We recently stayed with two families and absolutely loved everything about the house. We have now stayed in 25+ VRBO's and this one is a top favorite due to having LIVE plants, extra blankets & fans and extremely comfortable furniture in every room. We easily had two adults taking afternoon naps between excursions on the multiple oversized couches! Our kids were able to burn extra energy in the inviting yard while we grilled our caught salmon. We even utilized the provided recipe in the binder- yum!
In early August, our son married his beautiful bride, who is from Alaska. Our family traveled up for their
Destination wedding and we booked this beautiful home for our family to stay at while we were there. There was plenty of room for us to move around and we enjoyed every aspect of the home. Everything about the house and large yard was enjoyable and we would definitely book again! Thank you again for allowing us to stay in your home!

Thank you! We loved having your sweet family! You’re always welcome back!
Property owners were great. Had a small problem with downstairs toilet and it was rectified immediately. With no interruptions to our vacation. Can’t say enough about the owners. Very attentive and the house was gorgeous. Really enjoyed the deck and the beautiful property around it. Landscaping was amazing. Enjoyed sitting on the front porch smelling the lilacs. 10 stars if they offered it!
There were 6 of us all adults. Dad, family female friend, brother, sister, brother-in-law and myself really needed 5 separate bedrooms & I didn’t realize the 5th bedroom was inside the master bedroom. Everything was super cozy & well decorated. We loved the see through fireplace, hot tub & fire pit area.
Lots of areas to spread out & enjoy outdoors. The hosts are very nice & quick to respond. We would highly recommend for any family going to visit Alaska. It was a great central point to checking out a lot of Alaska by train & car. Plus we had a great deep sea fishing trip too.
The house was a perfect home away from home for our Alaskan vacation. The kitchen was amazing and was stocked with any utensil or pot /pan you would ever need. We were even able to have waffles for breakfast on my son's 28th birthday. Jessica was amazing and answered all my pre-trip questions within a reasonable amount of time. We also loved the deck with the fireplace, the hot tub and firepit, they all helped add settings for more memories from the trip. The house was also perfectly located for our trip and the activities we had planned. Thank you for sharing your house with us for our unforgetable trip!!

Thank you so much - the memories are the best souvenirs!!
Beautiful home and superb base of operations for family trip to AK!
We loved every aspect of our stay here-- the grounds are gorgeously maintained and spacious, with a large lawn that was so inviting that we ended up setting up a volleyball net! The hottub was fabulous too, and the fire pit out back was a wonderful spot to hang out when the rain stopped and things dried out a bit. The kitchen was a big highlight for us too: because we had multiple generations of family staying here (grandparents, parents, kids), we wanted to be able to have space to talk and hang out during meal preps, and this open-plan and beautifully appointed kitchen was perfect. A real pleasure to cook in, too, because of the excellent cookware and much better than average supply of appliances etc. Communication with the hosts was seamless and conscientious, and the house was sparkling clean and ready for us exactly at check-in time. The location in Eagle River was perfect for us as a base of operations for trips to Willow, Talkeetna, and elsewhere (including gorgeous hikes/walks at Thunderbird Falls and the Eagle River Nature Center, both very close by), and we were close enough to Anchorage itself to dip in there for lunch and the Zoo one day, and to shuttle some of our party back and forth from the airport. I would recommend this lovely home to anybody who wants a large and well-appointed house as a base of operations in the Anchorage area, and it worked so well for us as a place to host multiple generations for our family reunion. Thank you, Charley & Jess!

Thank you! It was a pleasure hosting your family! If only all guests were as thoughtful as you! You’re welcome back anytime!
My family of 13 (10 adults + 3 kids aged 1, 6, and 10) just returned from our Alaska family reunion and this home was the perfect base for us. It was located about 20 minutes outside of downtown Anchorage in a quiet neighborhood. The home was very cozy for get togethers, but large enough that we can spread out when we wanted privacy. We love to cook and the kitchen was very well stocked. We found handy gadgets not normally available in a rental like potato masher (two sizes eveb), garlic press, etc. Having the washer and dryer was handy. My family also made use of the fire pit (s'mores!) and the hot tub. The kids enjoyed running around the backyard. A moose with two calves even showed up one morning. It's very difficult to find a house big enough to accommodate us all, and we all agreed that this was on of the best rentals we've had. We did a long day trip to Seward. Some went to Denali but the National Park was far enough from this location to warrant an overnight stay. The hosts were very quick to respond by email and answered all our questions immediately. Thanks for hosting us!

We loved having your family enjoy our home and all Alaska has to offer!!
We are a small women’s group that have been together for 25 years. We have had many retreats in LOTS of places but this home and setting went beyond ALL our expectations. This was a perfect home and a lovely, quiet spot for the 6-8 members who were able to come to this retreat. We cooked fabulous meals for each other in the well-equipped kitchen. All of us could sit together at the ample dinning room table for great conversations as we ate. Clean up was a snap with the dishwasher. We appreciated having the bottled water in the kitchen and bedrooms to drink. The kitchen table nook and additional table tucked into the living room allowed us to have different crafts and activities going at the same time. We also enjoyed getting cozy on the sofas in the living room with the fire in the fireplace going. Our eldest member was able to manage the whole first floor with her rolling walker. The downstairs TV room right around the corner from the half bath turned into a perfect sleeping room for her. Everyone else slept in the bedrooms upstairs. All were happy with the mattresses and bedding that provided wonderful rest at the end of our busy days together. The hot tub was enjoyed nightly and was a much appreciated luxury. The other unique touch that was universally enjoyed was the doTERRA soaps, oils and bath products. A sweet detail that reminded us, with each use, how special it is to be there. We did manage a small bonfire one rainy evening in the beautifully crafted fire pit. The wood was nicely aged, dry and made a good fire despite the rain. We LOVED how easy it was for all of us to be together in this large, beautiful home and are hoping to return in the future.

Wow - thank you Helen!! It was our privilege to host your wonderful group! Thank you for taking such good care of our home and we would love to have you again!!
This magazine like estate had everything we needed and more. From a wonderful hot tub, fire pit, deck, and manicured grounds, right down to a coffee maker with built in bean grinder.
I once stayed at the JW Marriott in Hong Kong, China. As luxurious as it was, it has nothing over this place.
This was a lovely location with a beautifully cared for property. The kitchen was nice and fully stocked.
However, the sleeping arrangements were not as described in the listing. There were 14 of us- 11 adults and 3 kids. The listing states it can sleep 15 so I assumed there was plenty of sleeping room. The bed description in the listing stated "Bedroom 1- King with sleep sofa/futon, Bedroom 2- queen, Bedroom 3- Loft twin bed and double bed, Bedroom 4- one regular bunk bed and one twin over double bunk bed, Bedroom 5- family room with Air mattress"
When we arrived, Bedroom 3- only had one double bed and there was no air mattress in the family room. I contacted the owner to ask about the sleeping arrangements and was told that it was set up for 14 people in that 2 people could sleep on couches- not pull out couches, just couches. There were extra sheets, however there were not extra bed pillows. I ended up going to Walmart and buying our own blowup air mattress as sleeping on a couch for 5 days was not going to be comfortable. I don't know how you would sleep 15 people there, especially if they were all adults.
There were also not enough towels for all 14 of us, so we had to share and keep drying them in between use. The garbage was full when we arrived (which isn't necessarily the fault of the owner, but annoying non the less) we squished as much as we could in the can for garbage day and took our recycling to the landfill / recycling center. Maybe an extra garbage can would help.
I'm sure it would be a fine space for a smaller group. The listing needs to be updated to reflect the actual sleeping arrangements.
It was in a convenient location, and if the weather had been nicer we would have enjoyed the outside spaces more.

So sorry our home was not up to your expectations! We frequently have hosted parties in excess of 18 and they loved it. As I asked you multiple times through the inbox, please let us know if you need anything else and I could have directed you do the air mattresses, additional pillows and towels, but you never asked! The garbage can be an issue if a previous guest leaves an excessive amount. After hundreds of guests, you are the first to be disappointed and I’m truly sorry.
The property was gorgeous and had every amenity we could have ever wished for. The owners were delightful and responsive. The location was ideal, close to Anchorage , but beautiful country setting and close to the Matanuska Valley. Definitely will rent again 😃

About the host
Hosted by Jessica Preston
We are the Preston family! We love all things Alaskan and enjoy the many various opportunities this amazing state has to offer! Charles was born and raised in Homer, Ak and moved to the Anchorage area In his early 20s. Jessica grew up in California and moved to Alaska with her father when she was 17. Charles and Jessica have four kids and have settled just outside of Anchorage in the beautiful community of Eagle River. They love family dinners on the back deck, hot tubbing together after a day of berry picking or ATV’ing, and also spend quite a bit of time around the fire pit roasting marshmallows. For the Prestons, Alaska is home.
What makes this property unique
The property sits on 5 acres and backs up to 400 acres of land with trails winding back through the woods. This is the perfect location between Anchorage and the Valley where you don’t have to sacrifice luxury and still have plenty of privacy tucked away in beautiful Birchwood. We have Ring doorbell camera at the front door. For additional security and theft deterrence we have left multiple security cameras up around the exterior of our home.; however they are NOT currently active.
