About Dale Quackenbush
My "happy" place is with my face in the sun / my feet in the sand or my butt in a boat : ). My family and I consider The Rivah House, a home and not just a destination. We have formed life long friendships with our neighbors and built albums worth of memories with family and friends. Our hope for our guests, is that you too, will be taken by the magic of the Northern Neck. And that for you, this beautiful place becomes more than just a destination . I promise you it will. Enjoy !
Dale Quackenbush purchased this House in 2009
Why Dale Quackenbush chose Montross
I discovered the Northern Neck when my family and I were visiting, the weekend home of my business partner and best friend in 2007. His "rivah" home happens to be walking distance from my home, The Rivah House. And believe it or not, my best friend from high school, who I had not seen in over 25 years, owns the house just 2 doors away. Since I bought the home in 2009, my family and friends have celebrated birthdays / holidays / graduations / weddings and anniversaries here. My children have made friends that they now consider family. They have been fishing since toddlers and could pilot a boat or jetski by the time they were 8. My vision for having a home here on the Neck, was simply that, I wanted my children to have an opportunity to experience and do things, that otherwise, they would not have had the opportunity to do. But most of all, i wanted them to experience a place where neighbors watch out for one another , and where you can walk or drive down our street or Main St where everyone pauses to wave or says hello. So, when you are here, and out and about, don't forget to pause, and smile and say hello, Its what we do : )

Absolutely perfect for us!
The house is lovely and view spectacular! We had a lovely and serene visit, which was just what we needed. Dale was always available for any questions or suggestions. Definitely worth the trip!
Our stay on the Potomac was lovely. We were in the area for a nonstop wedding weekend and this home was the ideal escape for what little down time we had. The house was clean, nicely appointed and the view spectacular. We woke up every morning to an egret standing proudly on one of the posts in the water straight out the back door. It got better when we realized a bald eagle was fishing the water simulataneously. They both pretty much spent the weekend with us. It was great to sit on the deck to watch them and the various size boats quietly trolling the waters. We also enjoyed having access to the neighborhood Sharktooth Beach despite having limited time to explore it. It’s practically next door.
Dale is an awesome host. Communications with him were expedient, kind and concise. The house was ideal and just the right amount of space with thoughtful seafaring decor. Everything was clean and comfortable. The peace and quiet of this humble abode soothed the pace of our too short weekend. Thanks Dale!...for sharing the “rivah” experience. We loved it!
Great experience. Beautiful location, amazing interiors
Entire family had lots of fun.
Dale's house was a perfect mini getaway with my girls before school begins! Thank you for providing extra amenities I didn't think to pack! We highly recommend your home!
Awesome, quiet getaway
Really enjoyed our stay at the "Rivah House". Dale is a great, proactive host who has put a lot of thought into making his guests comfortable. This is more like a 4 or 5 star hotel than an airbnb.
The house is even better than it looks in the photos. The kitchen and bedrooms were very clean and well-appointed. The deck and the BBQ are key.
The view is indeed A+. We saw a couple of bald eagles fishing and play-fighting above the Potomac over the course of a Sunday morning.
Thanks for a great stay
Marc and his guests were great. They were very respectful towards the property. The also did a wonderful job of cleaning / straightening up my home prior to their departure. I would highly recommend Marc to other hosts, and he is guests are welcome to stay at The Rivah House anytime !!
During our stay, we were able to celebrate three birthdays and mothers day. The view took all of our breaths away. It was a great place to enjoy sun, family time, nature, and just overall life. Dale was extremely helpful as well during our stay. Definitely 10/10 recommend for a family get away or ang get away!
