So close to Washington and Richmond and yet it feels like a world away! Enjoy the view of the Potomac River from this updated cabin with retro appeal. The cabin is secluded in the woods overlooking a wide stretch of the Potomac River where you can catch a glimpse of a local fisherman collecting his catch of blue crab or watch bald eagles soaring nearby.
Come enjoy the great outdoors or simply do nothing at all! The community has 3 small beaches: a private sandy lake beach with swimming dock, a river-front sandy beach with 15-million-year-old+ shark teeth, and a fossil cliff beach. We're only a few minutes away from Westmoreland State Park where kayak rental and more river exploration is available.
Of course we do have free wifi! There are TV's located in the living/kitchen area, the master bedroom and the second floor bedroom as well as a large screen TV in the basement rec room.
The kitchen has all the necessities including new stainless appliances and a dishwasher. The coffee maker is a programmable Cuisinart brand model. In addition there is a toaster oven and blender as well as pots, pans, and dishware. There is a breakfast bar.
The interior layout is open. Baths are on the first floor. There is a master bedroom with a queen size bed; it's bath has a small shower; the hall bath has a full shower/tub surround. Our favorite morning coffee spot is what we call the gazing room which is accessed by either the master bedroom or living room; it features floor to ceiling windows to take in the awesome river view. The upstairs has two bedrooms o- both with a queen bed. In all there are 3 queen beds in the cabin. There is a clothes washer & dryer in the basement as well as an additional recreational area.
This cabin offers a place to make time for reading a book and gazing at nature close up. There are some cool restaurants in the area but, you'll have to get in the car and take a drive to get there. We are newcomers but, have found our way to Cole's Point Tavern where you enter from VA and step into MD on the deck leading to the front door. The building is located on piers in the river were you can sit on the open deck or go inside for some air food is simple, the beer is cold and the place is like none other we know of. Other notable eateries include the restaurant at Cole's Point Campground which is more refined and features more upscale fare. If you like a good burger don't miss a drive down to Tappahanock to Northern Neck Burger-- voted the best burger in VA--we suggest you decide for yourself. If you don't want to drive that far you can always count on Angelo's in the town of Montross --the crab cakes are exceptional. The cabin location is convenient to nearby Colonial Beach and is very close to Stratford Hall, home of the Lees of Viriginia as well as other historic sites. There is good antiquing in the area and some great eclectic shops sure to please.
The cabin sits high on a wooded bluff hillside; the river is not accessible from our location. There are nearby small beaches in the subdivision and also we are close to Colonial Beach and the Westmoreland State Park where you can sink your toes in more sand. We love the peace, quiet, and views of our little home on the rivah and hope to share it with some like-minded friends!
Our cabin is not available for groups of more than six. Due to the elevation of the cabin and bluff location we must caution families with children to not to wonder down to the river edge of the property as the ground is sandy and can give way.
