About Jim and Cathy Janszen

We are a family of four from Cincinnati, Ohio. We fell in love with the Smokies many years ago and love going to the chalet any chance we can get. We love all the seasons the Smokies have to offer.

Jim and Cathy Janszen purchased this chalet in 1994

Why Jim and Cathy Janszen chose Gatlinburg

We chose to buy in Gatlinburg because we love to hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our chalet is just 4 minutes from the National Park/ downtown Gatlinburg. Our kids each took their first hike in the Smokies when they were just 2 months old. Gatlinburg is such a family place and we have enjoyed numerous vacations with our children.

What makes this chalet unique

We are close to everything!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hello all,

Just wanted to address the hot tub. I sent a repairman to the chalet and it turns out the hot tub was just set to "whirlpool" mode. That's why only 1 jet was working. As a matter of fact, ALL jets work and ALWAYS DID it just needed the simple turn of a switch. I just wasn't aware of this. Just wanted to get this matter cleared up to our potential renters.

Thank You!!

Cathy Janszen

Spacious yet cozy.

  • 4 of 5

Pros: Great little Chalet tucked away in Ober Gatlinburg. Perfect size for a family of 4. Property had all amenities listed on the website.

Cons: Only a few of the hot tub jets worked. Hair dryer is about to die. Mouse droppings on the kitchen counters.

Great place in the woods with BEARS

  • 3 of 5

We arrived at the property at 10pm the first night and unloaded our vehicle. A BEAR opened our unlocked car and got in to look for food within an hour of arriving, there were paw prints on the door handle! Neighbors are remodeling currently. We heard construction and saw them going in and out of their home MANY times throughout the whole stay. You can even hear the construction noise inside the cabin and can see and hear the noise from the hot tub. Otherwise, this a great, clean cabin to stay in. All issues were outside of the owner's control.

Owner's Response: We are wondering if bears are being noticed in our area more due to the wildfires in November, 2016. I guess time will tell. Glad you enjoyed your stay! You have quite a story to tell..... Thanks, Jim & Cathy Janszen

Nice little retreat - not too far up in the mountains!

  • 4 of 5

House was great! Very clean.

Only a few minutes down to Gatlinburg.

From the front deck, you can see the Ober Gatlinburg gondola going up and down.

The only thing that made me nervous was getting up and down the driveway in my car. (But I'm a nervous driver in the mountains, so take that comment with a grain of salt)

Overall, a great experience!

Cute

  • 4 of 5

Stayed in early June 2017. Clean and spacious. Had everything we needed, although not necessarily everything we wanted - the TV channels weren't very entertaining for an 8 year old boy. Yes, they have cable/satellite, but it seems to be a very basic channel package. It was a quiet and relaxing stay. FYI, the picture shown on the ad is the front of the chalet, facing the road, although the road doesn't get much traffic.
