About this property

"Idle Hour" Family Friendly Retreat

Discover the delightful seaside village of Ocean Isle Beach and enjoy your ideal getaway at our four-bedroom holiday house. Comfortable SMOKE FREE family home, 4 bedroom, 2 bath with ground level but inside shower, 5 minute walk to the beach and great proximity to handicapped beach access. Cart, kids toys and beach chairs are provided. Second street runs parallel to Ocean front. Showers are available at the beach access and car and golf cart parking are also available if desired. MUST be at least 28 years old to rent. Saturday to Saturday rentals are needed during peak rental season.

I like to say the kitchen is vintage! Although not yet updated, it is equipped with all needed amenities including refrigerator, stove/oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, blender and Keurig coffee maker (both cups and carafe). The bar area seats 4 and the kitchen table seats 6.

The den area is equipped with a flat screen TV. High speed internet is provided at no additional charge. Roku present for streaming.

Upstairs bathroom has a newly updated stand up shower with hand held wand. Downstairs bathroom has a stand up shower with hand held wand.

There are 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs bedrooms. One upstairs bedroom has a queen bed and a flat screen TV. The other upstairs bedroom has a queen bed and 1 twin bed. A downstairs bedroom also has a queen bed, twin bed and a flat screen TV. The final bedroom has 2 twin beds. Mattresses are new and comfortable. All TV's have Roku present for streaming. There is also a washer and dryer for your convenience.

This home has had recently updates/renovations over the past 5 years to include a washer/dryer, refrigerator and dishwasher. The deck and entry stairs were rebuilt in 2017. The air conditioner is 3 years old. Deck chairs are provided. There is a gas grill located at ground level for your grilling needs. Disposable grate covers are available for use. Grill MUST be used on the ground level.

There is an electrical outlet on the ground level designated for a golf cart.

Ocean Isle/Brunswick County has many amenities including tennis, 40+ golf courses and numerous options for runners, walkers and bikers. The Island is 7 miles from point to point.

There is a new and expanded Recreation Park on the island. Great for kids and adults. Each Friday evening from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, enjoy a free live band. Movie nights are also a must do if on the island with young kids.

Hard surface tennis courts and a children's play area are available on Georgetown Road ~1 mile north of the bridge.

OIB and surrounding islands have excellent restaurants and grocery stores (Publix, Food Lion, Lowes Foods). Also 10 minutes from Calabash, 30 minutes from North Myrtle Beach, 10 minutes from Shallotte (Walmart, Lowes Home Improvement, Home Depot), 1 hour from Wilmington.

The house is amazing!!! We really enjoy sitting outside at night, and this place provided great areas to do that. I was a little worried about how long it would take us to walk to the beach, but when the listing says 5 minutes it is literally 5 minutes (I timed it ). Great location, short drive to shopping and entertainment. Myrtle beach attractions are not a far drive. If you want a great place to eat try Becks in Calabash.

Overall, nice home. Mostly clean, some kids hand prints on the sliding doors. Had to kill roaches/palmetto bugs each night that were in the living room area. Excellent stock of everything & nice walking distance to beach access. Not too far from the pier/center of the island. Great number of beds.

Great home away from home!

We had a great time in Ocean Isle Beach, and completely loved this home! It was so comfortable and welcoming. The beds and furniture were wonderful and relaxing. The house is decorated beautifully, and had everything we needed for our stay. The host does not provide towels or linens, so we ordered those from a local company. When ordering towels, only get bath and beach towels... kitchen towels are provided. Melinda, our host, was wonderful to work with. She was prompt in answering questions and addressing any issues that came up during our stay. We would definitely stay here again! It is close to the beach & just about anything else you want to get to on the island. I would recommend renting a golf cart. We did, and enjoyed having it for trips to the beach, store, etc. We had a great time and can't wait to go back! Thank you again for everything, Melinda!

Perfect Location

The property has anything you could need on vacation. The beach is just around the corner which is convenient. The bed are comfy and the rooms have extra twins. The kitchen has anything you need to make a home cooked meal. The tv has Netflix etc available with Riki. The only thing missing was a pool.

Doris Kaylor continues to reside in Conover, NC. At 90 years old, she is able to make limited trips to Ocean Isle Beach but still enjoys her visits. Her daughter, Melinda Kaylor Parks looks after her personal and financial affairs.

Why they chose this property

This property was built in 1985 by Joe and Doris Kaylor. It was intended for use by family and friends and has only been opened for renters for ~9 years. At the time this house was built, there were a limited number of homes on Ocean Isle Beach. There was a draw bridge that often delayed entry onto the Island due to boats passing through the sound.

What makes this property unique

This house is clean and comfortable. It has great access to the beach including the handicapped access ramp on Raeford. It is stocked with most things a renter may need. Best of all, we keep the rental fee on this house as affordable as possible. This is a personal home and not a property built as an income producer.
