About the property

Cabin with stunning lake views, 4 Bedrooms + 2 Convertible bed(s), (Sleeps 7-9)

Why stay at a crowded resort when, for the same price, you can have true wilderness seclusion in this privately owned, beautifully furnished Lake Vermilion lake cabin?

Looking out our windows, you see no other cabins unless you use binoculars. We are at the 'more remote' east end of Lake Vermilion, on the mainland. (Many cabins on Vermilion are on islands, but when you come to our cabin you drive right up to the door.) If you're looking at a map of Lake Vermilion, the far eastern tip of Pine Island points like a finger right at our cabin. The beauty of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) is only a half mile away through the woods, one and a half miles away by boat or canoe. A canoe is provided, and a boat and motor can be rented nearby.

Enjoy your own private dock on a renowned fishing lake, 250 feet of private shoreline on a point, large shaded patio with gas grill, and a beautifully furnished wilderness lake cabin featuring all wood interior, fully equipped kitchen, stunning lake views, bathroom with shower, main level living and dining area with stone fireplace, lower level family room with franklin stove fireplace, and a beautiful romantic log master bedroom that features a Sleep Number (R) bed, lake views, and french doors that lead out into the separate lower level family room.

We would like to show you an online slide show of over 100 beautiful pictures of this property. If the link below doesn't work for you, please either call us or send us a VRBO email inquiry and we will send you the link in email.

The bedrooms are configured as follows: bedroom #1 (the master bedroom) has one queen size Sleep Number (R) bed. Bedroom #2 has one twin bed only. Bedroom #3 has one twin bed only. Bedroom #4 has one queen bed and one twin bed. Two additional sofa beds are available, linen included. The entire cabin was completely redone in 2000. Sorry, no dishwasher. No pets. No smoking.

This cabin has been lovingly cared for by the same family for 30 years, and has very seldom been rented out during that time. Understandably, we are interested in renting only to very respectful guests who will treat the property with the same loving care that we do. For this reason we do ask for multiple references and check them carefully. Preference is given to guests who book for two weeks or longer.

TELL ME ABOUT LAKE VERMILION

The National Geographic Society has described Lake Vermilion as one of the top ten most beautiful lakes in the United States. Today it's known not only for its natural, rustic beauty, but also for championship fishing that includes walleye pike, northern pike, muskellunge, small-mouth bass, crappies, and panfish. Lake Vermilion has 1,200 miles of shoreline (more than any other lake in Minnesota), has no motor restrictions, spans 40 miles, and includes 365 islands --and one of those islands is nine miles long.

About Jeannie Burlowski

My husband is a software product manager for a large software company, and I am a conference and seminar speaker for students, a consultant for medical school applicants, and the author of the book

'6 Things You Absolutely Must Do to be Brilliant in College (And Get a Job You Love Afterward)' due out in 2013.

I was raised on Harvey Street in Ely, and my father started bringing me out to this part of Lake Vermilion when I was tiny.

Jeannie Burlowski purchased this cabin in 1977

Why Jeannie Burlowski chose Lake Vermilion

My grandfather came to this part of the lake in 1910, and then when I was ages 12-15 I worked at a small resort very near this property. When I was 15 years old my dear uncle bought this cabin and allowed me -- and later my husband and children -- to use it all we wanted to. When my uncle reached his late 70's and managing the day-to-day operations of the cabin became wearying, he signed the property over to me. My husband and I have been its owners since 2006. A spectacular, overwhelming, beautiful gift. One we'd like to share with you.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This cabin is set on a large spread of land just feet from beautiful Lake Vermilion.

The owner of this cabin also owns the small cabin you see out the kitchen window in the flickr slideshow on this website, but that cabin is never rented out -- so that means you can stay in this cabin for a week and not see any neighbors at all. If you really want to see a neighbor, you have to go into the bathroom, open up the stained glass window, and strain to see the cabin next door through thick trees. Is this kind of quiet seclusion even POSSIBLE in this day and age any more?

It's all the seclusion we wanted, but when we wanted to see other people, that was easy too. We just walked 1/3 of a mile up the road to a near-by resort where we could buy bait, ice, and boat gas...and where we had a great time at KARAOKE on Saturday night!

Everything about the cabin is beautiful, from the romantic log master bedroom with sunny lake views on three sides, to the massive picture window over the kitchen sink, to the livingroom where you can see a TV, a fire blazing in a stone fireplace, and a stunning lake view all at the same time.

We loved that there seem to be no "thrift store finds" in this cabin; instead, every item from the towels to the sofas to the art on the walls seemed to be carefully chosen for its exact particular spot.

This cabin is a true gem; not to be missed.

Enjoying the great view from this bright, wonderful room

VRBO Bear stayed here

I felt right at home in this log cabin on Lake Vermilion. Natural light flows throughout this cabin because of the large windows that give a view of the lake at almost every turn. It’s very spacious, with plenty of room upstairs and downstairs. The large shower, fluffy towels and comfortable couches added to the overall comfort of this home. There are four bedrooms so there was plenty of room for everyone. The upstairs living room in particular was a hit for my group because could relax and watch TV while looking at the amazing views of the lake. Outside there is a grill for cooking up a nice steak dinner which we also used to cook the fresh fish we caught from the dock. The property is just steps away from the amazing Lake Vermilion. We took a boat out and enjoyed a day on the lake, catching many fish. The cabin is very close to a town called Ely, which is a beautiful town to go shopping and has awesome restaurants. You’ll find a grocery store nearby that has a surprisingly wide selection of items – most everything you would need for great meals at the cabin. It’s also nice to know that there’s a place nearby to buy essentials that you may have left at home. We enjoyed visiting the Wolf Museum in Ely. For the perfect secluded spot to get away but still enjoy all the conveniences of home, try this wonderful log cabin on Lake Vermilion for your next vacation! The VRBO Bear

This place is amazing!!!! It's tucked in a secluded place that over looks the lake. The lake view from the living room is breath taking and beds are very comfortable. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Lake Vermilion Cabin

  • 5 of 5

I was hooked as soon as we started down the well maintained gravel road just getting lost in the scenery on our way to the cabin. It was everything we imagined it would be! The cabin was right on the edge of the lake! Just beautiful as you could see right out the front on to the lake from the top floor. This cabin was fully equipped with all most everything you have at home for cooking every meal. The furniture was very comfortable and plenty of seating for a whole family. If its chilly you can use the beautiful stone fireplace to warm you up! Did I mention the view right out of the living room and kitchen windows absolutely wonderful! If you can make yourself leave this cabin you can grab your fishing poles and fish right of the dock below! Bass, Walleyes, and Perch kept me tossing my line out. I would definitely recommend to anyone that wants to get away from the city life and relax to a beautiful sunset on the lake.

Map

Car: recommended

A small island with one very secluded campsite for camping or picnics is a short (1/2 mile) paddle across the bay. It's a 40 minute drive to Bearhead State Park and its 17 miles of groomed hiking trails. It's a 45 minute drive to Fortune Bay Casino and its award winning golf course (ranked by Golf Digest as the 2004 best new public golf course in the U. S.). Boat launching, bait, pontoon boat rental, boat gas, bar, and rustic sauna (bring your own towels; reserve in advance) are available at an established resort 1/3 mile away from this property. Restaurants, art galleries, shopping, a full service spa, and wilderness outfitters are just 1/2 hour away in Ely. The scenic north shore of Lake Superior (and the world famous Superior Hiking Trail) is just 75 miles away, a gorgeous drive over breathtaking Highway 1 (watch for moose, deer, and bald eagles as you drive this road). Also enjoy kayaking, biking, sailing, windsurfing, and waterskiing if you can bring your own equipment.
