The kitchen was well equipped and had everything that we needed for meals. The property is in a beautiful location and is very relaxing. It was just what I needed for a get away after a long winter.
We enjoyed our visit. The house was comfortable and clean and situated along a lovely creek. It was in a good location for day trips to Grayson Highlands and the Virginia Creeper trail. The hot tub was great after a day of hiking and biking.
Our family had a great time at this beautiful cabin. Even with the rain all weekend, we made special memories together and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. The property is very well cared for and the owner was excellent. Five stars!
Great cabin. Decorated nicely. Everything you need to stay. The creek was great and the multiple outdoor seating options were good. The area isn’t super busy with closest restaurant 15-20 mins. A few larger town 30ish minutes away. Great location to wind down!
We truly enjoyed all the moments of our stay in Lansing. The property was beautiful, quiet, relaxing, perfect for a getaway for a couple. The place was clean, the binder provided was thorough, and of course the outside space was idyllic.
The main cabin along with the adjoining cabin were just what we needed for our fly fishing weekend. Both cabins were very clean and had all of the amenities we needed for the weekend.
My daughter and I were celebrating her birthday and it was an awesome couple of days, we are hoping to get to stay here next year. A perfect place to relax.
Hal & Margie’s cabin had everything we needed for an extended weekend away in Lansing. We enjoyed the DVD collection, games, and cozy fireplace. The hot tub coupled with the sound of the babbling brook was a lovely addition. We would stay again. Thanks again Hal & Margie
Awesome place to stay, hot tub listening to creek was so enjoyable , owner was so easy to talk with and really nice, place was really nice and clean and will be going back often!!
The cabin was secluded yet only 25 minutes from West Jefferson. The cabin was clean and inviting. Bedrooms comforting and the living room was roomy. The kitchen and bath were moderm and well equiped. But what outshines everything is the babbling creek that run next to thecabin.
This place was great for an intimate stay with fire pits, a creek surrounding the main house and great amenities. Great communication and responsiveness from the owners as well. Definitely recommend.
Property was just as advertised and very relaxing. We plan to come back real soon. Definitely recommend this cabin for your deserved getaway.

About the host
Hosted by Hal and Margie Kluttz
Bear Wallow Creekside Retreat is owned and operated by Hal and Margie Kluttz from Lincolnton, NC. Hal is a retired Police Detective Lieutenant and Margie is the retired President of Harper Corporation of America, a manufacturing business that reconditions printing cylinders. Hal's mother was born and raised in the NC Mountains and Hal has been coming to Ashe County all his life.
Why they chose this property
Hal and Margie have been spending time in Ashe County since they were married over (30) years ago. They fell in love with the cabins along the peaceful shores of the Big Horse Creek. They love the people, the peace and tranquility of the rustic setting, and the small town mountain flavor, the pace really slows down when you spend time at this lovely place.
What makes this property unique
Spending the summer nights listening to the water flow down the creek and feeling the cool mountain air from our open bedroom window was relaxing beyond description. There is just so much to see and do in Ashe County. This became our home away from home.
