Why Hal and Margie Kluttz chose Hurricane
Hal and Margie have been spending time in Ashe County since they were married over (30) years ago. They fell in love with the cabins along the peaceful shores of the Big Horse Creek.
What makes this Cabin unique
Spending the summer nights listening to the water flow down the creek from our open bedroom window was relaxing beyond description. There is just so much to see and do in Ashe County. This became our home away from home.

This cabin is magical. We loved everything about our stay and did not want to leave! The creek is so relaxing and the hot tub was a bonus! Everything is so clean and well decorated-absolutely charming! We could not be more pleased with our stay! Hands down, will come again! Thank you for sharing this beautiful retreat with us!
The cabin was delightful. The perfect size cabin to relax and enjoy the incredibly pristine stream.
The hot tub on the deck was fabulous, clean, and incredibly relaxing while watching the rushing waters of the trout stream. We have not slept so well in a long time! The sound of that water is hypnotic in the best possible way. Gas fireplace was lovely. Furnishings were comfortable and clean. Nice bathroom. We have recommended this cabin to friends and family.
This cabin was WONDERFUL! We enjoyed our stay so much.. we have two small children and I think they enjoyed it just as much as we did. The cabin has everything you will need for your stay. It is a very peaceful and relaxing place.
You will lose cell service as soon as you enter the town of Lansing so make sure you already have your destination plugged into the GPS. Be sure to eat at Pie on the Mountain.. it was seriously some of the best pizza!
We plan to make another trip back in the near future!
Quite, Cozy & Beautiful
I tossed a dart and picked this cabin, never been to Lansing or this property. We wanted a weekend to disconnect and we got just that. I highly recommend, its clean, cozy and everything you need for a getaway anytime of the year, esp with the hot tub, it was relaxing! Beautiful views and sound of the stream.
Few things and tips to know and consider:
The town is small and not exactly around the corner. Thats the whole point, to getaway! Be sure to bring the things you need, personal items, bath products etc, food, drinks and snacks etc. The town offered an awesome place for breakfast and lunch. Pie Mountain Pizza place is highly recommended, and a market place to get items in Lansing.
About 30 min drive to West Jefferson where you can do more shopping Ingles, cvs and other various chain stores and local businesses, you can also enjoy downtown West Jefferson with all the little shops and walking.
We didn't have phone service while there, we have sprint, but you do have wifi at the cabin, a telephone is available at the cabin house. We didn't mind, we were there to disconnect.
The owner was easy to contact via phone or text. You will need to pay a big chunk upfront to rent, something to consider because many people may not have the money to put down and wait for a Refundable Damage Deposit but it is refundable and you will need to add 100 cleaning fee to your stay and $50 pet fee if you bring. With that said the rental per night beats staying in a hotel. You get a whole house!
Shower head needs to be replaced - not a negative just maintenance as with any home.
Thank you for offering this cabin for us to enjoy!
Cabin was exactly as pictures on website. Would definitely stay here again
The creek behind the cabin is amazing! Also the DVD collection brought back a little nostalgia. Watched some movies we haven’t seen in quite awhile.
Word to the wise. If you are a city slicker like us be prepared. No cell phone signal, and gas and food are pretty remote. Wi-fi is provided, but once outside of the cabin you are on your own.
One of our new favorite locations!!!
Up for a Birthday weekend, just the two of us & this cabin did not disappoint! We have been renting cabins in Ashe County for about 10 years & this has become our favorite! So happy to have found this one with such a peaceful surrounding!!
Our cabin is nestled in the rural community of Husk along the peaceful and beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, located along historic Big Horse Creek on the old Virginia Creeper Train route. Big Horse Creek is a NC Stocked Trout Stream and a favorite fishing and recreational spot for the entire family.
