Toes in the Water at Lake Gaston - Lake Front Custom Home on Large Cove

Welcome to Toes in the Water at Lake Gaston.

From the moment you walk through the front door, you'll be greeted with stunning lake views through expansive windows and glass doors. On the main level is a large great room with gas fireplace. Enjoy preparing family meals in the fully stocked kitchen or grilling on the 6-burner Weber grill. Plenty of seating is available for everyone to gather for meals. Relax in the screen porch located off the dining room - the perfect spot for morning coffee or evening wildlife watching, including visits from the neighborhood heron.

The master suite has sliders to the deck and a private bathroom with large shower and custom cabinets.

Also located on the main level is a half-bath and laundry.

The kids will love to hang downstairs in the rec room with wet bar, 2nd fridge, ping pong table, TV, sectional and pub table for game night.

There are 4 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms downstairs. 2 bedrooms are lake facing each with en-suite access to a bathroom. 1 bathroom has a shower, the 2nd a tub/shower combo. All bedrooms have comfortable mattresses with multiple types of pillows for your comfort. Dressers and closets are available to store your belongings during your stay.

Towels (for indoor use) & linens are included.

Just steps from the house, the boathouse is the ultimate lake hangout. Enjoy jumping off the dock or floating in the calm waters of the large cove. The boathouse features a large shaded area with table/seating, a bar with mini-fridge and stools, 4 kayaks, and plenty of room for enjoying the water which is 7-8 ft deep at the end of the dock. The boathouse has rope lighting that makes for a great spot to relax after the sun goes down. The boathouse has 5 bumper posts and 2 mooring cleats on each side for securing boats. While the house is located in NC, the VA border is within sight. There are several natural areas up Poplar Creek within a short kayak trip, including an island, making for fun areas to explore on a kayak trip from NC to VA and back.

Off the water, enjoy the many outside seating areas, smores at the firepit, or a game of cornhole. For rainy days or a break from the outdoors, plenty of games & books are available and multiple streaming services to enjoy a movie or your favorite show.

The nearest boat ramp is the Poplar Creek Boat Ramp about 3.5 miles by car from the house. Boat rentals are also available near the boat ramp at Poplar Pointe Marine. Take a trip for lunch or dinner by boat or car to the Shady Shack located up Poplar Creek, also near the boat ramp. There are more lake-side restaurants on the lake, approximately a 5 mile boat ride to One Eyed Jack(coming soon) and WatersView restaurant. For a nearby off-shore excursion, the Rosemont Winery is only 4 miles away by car and Poplar Creek Farm is near-by in Bracey.

This was our second time staying at the house...but it certainly won't be our last! Great hosts; fantastic, clean, well-equipped house; and great location! We had all adults, but this would also be a great property for multiple families with kids! Highly recommend!

Perfect, Quiet Cove - Great View!

This is our second time renting this home and we just love everything about it. Perfect for a "framily" vacation. All the amenities you could possibly need (both inside and out), super clean, and super comfortable. The screened porch is to die for! The kids love being able to kayak around in the cove and fish, sun on the dock, or just float around. We've stayed on the main lake before and it really is nice to be more secluded - especially with small kids. We can't wait to go back!!

Beautiful property with excellent hosts

This is the second time we have stayed at this property and we loved it just as much as the first time. It is the perfect blend of activity and relaxation and accommodates our multi-generational family very comfortably. The layout of the house allows for both social time and space if needed, and we spent almost all of our time outside - kayaking, fishing, paddle boarding, swimming, making s’mores around the fire pit, drinking coffee on the dock. Kelly and Corey are wonderful and responsive hosts. We hope to return again! Couldn’t recommend more highly.

Toes in the Water

Toes in the Water was the perfect place to vacation with our children, their spouses, and our grandchildren. There was plenty of room to spread out. One of our favorite rooms was the screened in porch. Everyone enjoyed kayaking and the grandkids enjoyed fishing on the dock. Toes in the Water went beyond our expectations. We will definitely rent it again.

Great Friends Reunion at Lake Gaston

Toes in the Water was the perfect venue for our weekend reunion with old friends. Very comfortable for 3 adult couples. We loved the design of this custom home. Plenty of comfortable spaces for socializing (living room, screen porch, deck, boat house, etc.), but also ample privacy. Great lake views from all areas of the house. Nicely furnished with a well-equipped kitchen. Enjoyed the kayaks & fire pit. The owners were very responsive & provided lots of helpful information about the house & the area. Overall - highly recommended!

Beautiful location and gorgeous property

Toes in the Water has everything . The property is on a lovely part of the lake, so peaceful and quiet, where you can really enjoy the lovely natural surroundings (and if you are lucky, see osprey from the dock,as we did). Toes in the Water itself is just fabulous and so well designed to accommodate different ages and group structures. The owners have thought of absolutely everything to make it the most comforrtable holiday home ever. We cannot recommend it enough and do hope that, if we return to the area, we will be able to find time to return to Toes in the Water. Thank you Kelly and Corey for allowing us to stay at your home, where our family (from UK, US and Australia) could meet and enjoy a blissful week together.

AMAZING TIME at "Toes in the Water!"

We can't say enough about how amazing this house is. This is our second year booking "Toes in the Water," and it didn't disappoint. The house is spacious, with a huge kitchen and entertainment area, and there was plenty for the kids to do (ping pong, cornhole, games). The screened in porch offered an unbelievable view and a sense of peace and quiet when we needed it, and the dock was well equipped with kayaks, two john boats, and plenty of life jackets. Kelly and Corey were very responsive and very gracious hosts!!! We will be back! :)

Simply the Best!

This property's consistent positive reviews are well-deserved! We have stayed in properties literally all over the world, and this was really the best one we have had the pleasure of visiting in terms of the property owner's thoughtful organization of the stay and communication for the guests. The house was impeccably clean, totally functional, and just lovely. The grounds including the dock and boat house were perfect with fantastic views of the beautiful lake and surrounds. Everything you could possibly need or want was available with instructions on how to find/use. Plenty of room for multiple people to have adequate privacy when wanted or communal time for dinners/games/conversation. Really a lovely stay and we hope to be return guests!

'Toes in the Water' was EVERYTHING and more! We raved about the house while we were there and on the way back home. The house was very bright, airy, CLEAN and organized just the way we ALL love it. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. This house and its amenities were perfect and exactly what I as hoping for when planning a long weekend together with my family. The house was very clean and everything - from couches to beds and sheets and pillows - was very comfortable. Everything is meticulously labeled to help you find what you need and put it back in the correct place for the next guest. We had a range of ages from 3-80 and we were all able to enjoy our time here, from relaxing on the porch or in the boat house to swimming in the lake, kayaking, and fishing. We created wonderful family memories in this home and I hope to make it an annual tradition to convene here for fun and relaxation.

Best VRBO we’ve stayed at!

Beautiful home that made for a perfect place to celebrate our Dad’s 60th birthday! We had 8 adults and 5 kids under 5 years old and it was big enough for all of us! The selection of life jacket sizes was outstanding and the ability to use their kayaks and small fishing boat made the trip so fun! We will 100% be back Only thing I would change is the availability of a few more bath towels or some bath mats in the bathrooms - there were not enough towels for each person to have one (including the babies) so we had to share and because there were no bath mats, we had to use our towels to wipe up the water from getting out of the shower because we didn’t want the water sitting on their floors! Thankfully we had brought a couple beach towels we could use while washing the other ones. Aside from the towels, this was a beautiful, well stocked home and we will definitely be coming back!!

Fantastic family time at Lake Gaston

We spent 10 nights in the beautiful home and hated to leave. It was perfect for our family and can’t thing of a thing we would change about it! We spent the first few days with our adult children and grandson - wonderful open floor plan to accommodate a busy 18 month old and comfy beds to crash in after fun days on the water! Kelly was so kind and helped us arrange a mid week cleaning before the family switchover happened and other adult family members arrived, including 2 elderly parents. The floor plan and activities continued to be perfect for this group - we loved the ping pong table and playing corn hole by the firepit! We spent lots of lazy coffee time in the screened porch and on the beautiful upper deck. The kayaks were perfect for exploring the cove and we loved the ring toss hook game in the awesome huge dock house! The location on the lake was absolutely perfect - one turn from the creek area (fun lunches at Shady Shack!) and one turn from the main part of the lake. Kelly and Corey were super responsive and helpful - and clearly care about this home as it is beautifully decorated and maintained. We will definitely be back next year!

Didn’t want to go home

We celebrated my wife’s birthday with cousins at Toes in the water. The home is beautifully decorated with awesome, calming views of the lake on both floors. The boathouse is well equipped and a short distance from the house. The attention to detail inside the home is phenomenal. Honestly the photos don’t capture the beauty of the property. Kelly, was extremely responsive to questions. I would highly recommend the location. I literally didn’t want to go home!

Fantastic! (even in the rain!)

What a great place! We had a large group for 3 nights (during a tropical storm) and had an absolute blast. The house and property were top notch and provided everything we needed for the weekend. The house was perfectly sized, perfectly laid out and perfectly appointed (not to mention a great location in a large cove). We didn't get to experience the fire-pit or spend much time at the boathouse or on the deck, yet our weekend was still full of great experiences (both fun and relaxing). Highly recommend and would love to be back next year!

Beautiful property!

This was our second year at “Toes in the Water” and we had a wonderful time. The house is a great floorplan for accommodating three families with children, wide open living space with beautiful view of the lake, and a kitchen stocked with everything one could possibly need. The outdoor cook especially loved the grill. The dock is a good combination of sun/shade and we spent most of our time there. The location of the house is perfect in a wide but protected cove just a quick ride to the main lake, but we enjoyed the cove for the calmer water. Great value in this property!

The property location has the best of both worlds. It's just around the corner from the main lake, situated on a large cove that's protected from all of the busy main lake disturbances, yet the cove is large enough to feel like a small lake and is perfect for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, and more. While the waters at the property remains very calm, Poplar creek also has enough room for tow sports. While there are neighbors on both sides of the property, the property is also very private. When the leaves come back you can hardly even see the neighboring homes from the house.
