Overview

About the property

Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

You have just found your own personal, tropical hideaway … a spectacular, ocean-front designer condo literally just steps away from the crystal blue Pacific Ocean!

A look at the video tour will tell it all. The link to the video tour is located by clicking the screen or arrow to the left of the main picture above. A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video is worth a thousand pictures!

This is elegant tropical living at its best, with a king-size bed (and premium mattress), slate floors, granite countertops, gourmet kitchen with new stainless steel appliances, central air conditioning, Travertine bath with a raised vessel sink, and tropical touches throughout.

The convenient, ground floor location means you have paradise at your feet: Merely stroll 20 yards out from the lanai (patio) and you’re standing in the ocean, with a picturesque white sand beach cove just a few more feet down to your left. Or go 30 feet out the front door to the pool. No winding staircases or out-of-the-way elevators.

As you would expect in a condo this luxurious, it is fully equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable stay: A fully equipped kitchen, with a full array of utensils, including BBQ accessories. A washer and dryer right in the unit makes sure you feel right at home. We expect you to return often, as most of our guests do. The Kona Reef is the most convenient location in Kona, and this is the ultimate unit at the Kona Reef.

So sit back and enjoy spectacular sunsets as daredevil surfers and playful dolphins dodge sea turtles right in front of you,... as all of you keep a keen lookout for humpback whales when they are in town.

And then ask yourself: after traveling thousands of miles to get here, was it worth a few extra dollars per night to spend your time in a place just as beautiful as the paradise that surrounds it? Of course it was, but we are actually priced lower than many other units, which shows that sometimes the best actually costs less.

Since we have multiple units, we are most likely able to fill your needs and the dates that you need. If the dates you want are not available, then click the 'View Our Other Rentals Listings' below the map, or visit our website for the availability of other units. We are likely to have the dates available that you need. Our availability calendar is always up to date, and you can use the 'Book It Now' option to confirm your dates without delay.

Call us at 888-269-3229, or Email us with any of your questions and we will be happy to give you a prompt response. We look forward to having you stay with us, and your return. Hawaii registration #W-01269720-01

Peace and Aloha!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have been traveling to Hawaii since 1995. This was our first time on the Big Island and we were very pleased with the condo that we chose. In fact, we believe that it had the best view and location we have ever had! The view from our condo in the morning consisted of turtles and surfers. In the afternoon you could watch more surfers, snorkelers, and pleasure boaters. Parking was really easy. Plus, you could often leave your car in the parking garage and walk to the little town for dinner or shopping.

We stayed at condo A-5. It was lovely! The king size bed was very comfortable and the furniture was inviting and in good shape. The kitchen had everything we needed. We ate breakfast every morning on the lanai and I cooked dinner a few times. I was pleased with the pans and utensils provided. Everything worked just fine. Our only complaint was that when someone took a shower s/he had to be careful because the water would seep out to where the toilet was and that reulted in a wet inconvenience .

That inconvenience would not prevent us from returning to the same condo. In fact, if we return to the big Island I know that we would want to stay in the same place.

Inexpensive condo option in the heart of Kona

  • 4 of 5

This condo was in a great location to experience the hustle and bustle of Kona.

We decided to forgo a traditional resort on the Big Island because we had a ton of excursions planned around the island. The location was a great, centralized spot to call home base for five days. Tons of dining and drinking options around -- but Kona is definitely more tourist trap than relaxed luxury resort.

The view from the lanai was incredible. We were able to hear the roar of the ocean at all times -- extraordinarily relaxing. The pool was nice, and the BBQ areas were used quite a bit by guests.

The condo itself was a bit dark. The eastern facing side of the building where the bedroom is didn't get much natural light because of the garden area. It was actually nice to have the darkness because of trying beat the jet lag. Living area was comfortable and nicely appointed, but there isn't a lot of room for entertaining more than about two or three people.

My biggest complaint was the quality of the bed. The bed squeaked loudly with every movement, and the pillows were absolutely terrible. There were also tons of mosquitos in the condo -- I was eaten alive the entire time I was there. You can see the remains of squashed mosquitos on the ceiling in the bathroom. Better than cockroaches -- which we only saw dead one of in the outdoor common area -- but certainly a nuisance.

Not sure we'd stay there again, but would certainly recommend to others.

Thanks for allowing us to stay. We had a wonderful time on the Big Island!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughtful evaluation. We of course are delighted that you think A5 is inexpensive, but in a careful rereading of your analysis, we think this is the perfect opportunity to remind folks that vacation rentals are not resorts. The upside is we are a tremendous value; but one of the few and small inconveniences is that we might not have as good of pillows, and of course we are within walking distance to the vast array of small mom and pop boutiques, funky, non-chain (and chain) restaurants and cafes, galleries and shops that generally make up what some people consider tourist traps. That said, and as many guests have effused about, we do have a high quality pillow-top mattress and box spring set sitting atop a very solid hardwood-slat platform. However, we will check on the platform to make sure all the joints are still plumb, snug, tight and therefore, quiet. We’d also like to take this opportunity to point out that Kona is one of the sunniest places in Hawaii, and as anyone who has west-facing windows can attest, the living area of A5 can get quite bright in the afternoon. It’s why there is such large and comprehensive forced air A/C system, and premium Bali roman shades sitting atop the gas-filled, UV-tinted lanai window doors. With the sultry setting sun and restless Pacific forever in front of you in the living area, many find the cool, muted sanctuary of the bedroom with the lush tropical atrium just outside its window a refreshing refuge from the days activities. Conditions that sometimes create its own kind of noisy bed.

BEAUTIFUL & VIEW was INCREDIBLE - & apt was nice & great location

  • 4 of 5

The condo was BEAUTIFUL & VIEW was INCREDIBLE - & apt was nice & great location

I gave it 4 stars as I would not stay there again unless they fixed the shower & bathroom sink. The sink faucet barely came out into the bowl so it was hard to use without wetting everywhere AND the shower leaked ALL over the bathroom & I hated going in there with ALL wet floors ALWAYS & I was never able to wash my hair otherwise I would've flooded the bathroom.

Before booking this room - I read a similar review & their response was they fixed the shower. Curious to know how it was before AS it is still not good at all & super easy to fix - they just gotta have a ledge to prevent the rest of the bathroom floor from soaking.

The condo needs more / better lighting as well

If you take super quick showers or you don't have lots of hair as I do - then maybe it won't matter to you

Aside from that, it was BEAUTIFUL, the view was INCREDIBLE, & we had GREAT SERVICE & everything we needed (like chairs, towels, kitchen utencils, etc.....) - SUPER CLOSE to town as well

Fix the flooding / spilling of the shower into the rest of the bathroom & then for sure it would be 5 stars

Owner's Response: Thank you for your thoughtful critique and the kind comments. As the other reviews attest, many share your views about the incomparable beauty, view and service. We are also glad you mentioned the lighting, because we are particularly proud of that feature, as this is one of the most well-lit condos in the Kona Reef, if not all of Kona. If those reading this response will note in the pictures, they’ll see that the entire condo is immersed with lighting. In the ceiling soffits, there are recessed light cans throughout the entire unit (alternating with AC portals -another feature of which we are quite proud). There are 20 total. Each recessed light contains a 50 watt dimmable halogen light, and in conjunction with two floor lamps and a table lamp each with 3-way bulbs peaking at 250 watts in the living room; under cabinet lighting with additional spotlights illuminating the cabinets in the kitchen; halogen track lighting above the vanity sink, and finally, two articulated directional reading lamps next to the bed, there is more than 2,450 watts of lighting at your disposal. All of the recessed lighting is dimmable and controlled by three banks of dimmer switches located in the living room, bath area and bedroom. To request more lighting, we can only guess that you didn’t find these control clusters, and were only relying on the floor and table lamps. As for the bathroom issues you mention, here, too A5 is unique. The shower and commode are within the same large, travertine-tiled room and separated by a shower curtain. Many guests enjoy the luxury of having such ample space for showering this provides, but this convenient arrangement can also result in water splashing out in front of the toilet, especially when the shower curtain is in anyway compromised. This is a trade-off that has bothered very few guests.

A wonderful stay.

This was our third stay at the Kona Reef. This unit, right at surf side, was great. Will definitely look for it again on our next visit.

Simply some of the best 4 days of any vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5

This property is literally steps away from the ocean. You can watch surfers (or surf yourself), parasailing and ocean going canoe races while sitting on the patio. We saw several sea turtles in the rocks by the beach and watched some of the most beautiful sunsets possible every evening. The condo has a complete kitchen, air conditioning (if you think you need it), a comfortable king size bed and easy access to the pool, hot tub and gas grills. It also has cable TV, which we never used, and wifi. A 500 meter walk takes you to the center of Kona where the dining and shopping are located. All in all, it can't be beat.
