Why KaCee & Kurt Nord chose Kailua-Kona
Hawaii is a magical place. A place and a spirit that words can not describe. One must experience this feeling, called Aloha, to understand. Most people say they just 'feel' better, healthier, and more alive here in Paradise. We found the uncrowded beaches and small town atmosphere of Kona a relaxing family-style vacation destination to soak up the true Aloha. While the other Hawaiian islands all have their unique charm, The Big Island has spoken to us and we can now call it our second home.

Outstanding ocean front view!
Great ocean front lanai. Percect for coffee in the morning and dinning while the sun sets. Never tire from the view.
Far enough from town but close enough to walk in to shop and dine.
Condo was nicely furnished and clean. The paddles, and ukulele on the wall added a nice touch.
We really enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful and relaxing
This is the cleanest vacation rental I have ever visited! Floors were spotless and-dust free, kitchen and cooking implements were like new, bed was comfortable and tightly-made. The lanai furniture pillows were a bit grainy from the ocean spray, but that's a fair trade for the view!
The lanai was unmatched. We had warm mornings, perfect sunsets and a view of the dolphins, fish and cruise ships.
Proximity to Kona town was perfect: far enough that nighttimes were mostly quiet, close enough that we could drive to the shops and farmer's market in minutes. Coffee plantations were all within a 20-minute drive. The slat windows admitted some nighttime noise but this was only a problem on one occasion when we were kept awake by a garbage truck emptying dumpsters up and down the street at 5am.
There was noisy construction on the building exterior during the day, but the owner told us in advance so we were able to plan our days around it. This could have come as a rude surprise, but was ameliorated by a proactive owner!
My only complaint is that the AC unit is in the main room and on a 4-hour timer. This means that the bedroom (on the other side of the condo) is *much* warmer than the rest of the place, and that we would wake up sweating in the middle of the night after the AC stopped running.
Altogether it was a very pleasant stay, and I'd recommend this rental to anyone I know!
The unit is renovated and is as pictured. The decor is fun and done very well. The location is wonderful with easy walkable access to town. The sunsets viewed from this unit are memorable. We experienced some exterior and poolside noise disruption during our stay due a repair scheduled by the property without prior notice. All in all we enjoyed our time at this wonderful unit and would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere special to stay while in Kona.
Return to “our” island
We used to have a home here but hadn’t been back for 1 1/2 years. We knew just where we wanted to stay since we have seen The Reef many times in passing. We knew it was within walking distance to the village and our favorite place, Huggo’s.
This condo provided the perfect base for us. I believe it’s new to the rental market so as such, has had only light use.
The bedroom is snug but the mirrored closet doors help it feel more expansive. Furnishings are good quality and the bed was great. I was afraid it might be too soft (which can cause me back problems) but it not a problem.
The kitchen, living area and lanai are open and light. Again, nice furnishings and art. We spent quite a bit of time just enjoying the condo, either in during the heat or on the lanai. We only used the kitchen for making coffee in the morning and for wine at night, otherwise we had meals out. The kitchen looked well-stocked had we wanted to use it but this was VACATION!
The pool area is nice but I would have liked more shade. Umbrellas for the chaises as well as at tables would be my suggestion.
Communication with the owners was easy. The only downside was arriving too early for the 4:00 check-in with no place to store bags and feeling homeless for a 4 hour period. Fortunately a couple of kind people on the property helped us out.
Mahalo, Kurt and KaCee, for allowing us to share your Hawaiian home; we would certainly be happy to stay here again!
Direct oceanfront, sparkling clean, well stocked piece of heaven
From the very get-go this condo is perfect for a reboot.
The check-in/out process could not be simpler. No keys to worry about misplacing, very secure and the condos location is very close to free parking.
Once in the condo, it is sparkling clean. Crisp linens on an amazingly comfortable and cool king bed, fluffy white towels in the bathroom, lots of large beach towels, a well-stocked kitchen, washer and dryer allows for less to pack, easy and modern technology, walking distance to town/ABC store and then there's the view- pure Aloha.
Recommendations and Tips-
Use the washer/dryer and pack less/stress less.
Order DoorDash and dine on the Lanai while watching the sunset at least one night.
Use the canvas grocery bags under the counter on the outside of the kitchen for shopping trips. Plastics bags are a no-no.
If you are a Samsung person, you can cast from your Samsung device the Samsung Smart TV.
Huggos on the Rocks has a great band on Saturday night and their food/drinks are great.
Laverne's is the best sports bar to watch your team and Kona Brewing Company has great food, craft beers and the best people watching on Ali'i.
When shopping for souvenirs, support locally hand-crafted goods found at shops like Hulihe‘e Palace & Queen Emma Summer Palace and the farmers market.
Educate yourself on the current events regarding the sacred mountain of Mauna Kea. There is a reason you see so many Hawaiian state flags being flown upside down as a sign of distress.
Finally Google the word Aloha and live by it on and off the islands.
Amazing condo and fantastic location!
Super clean, updated, everything you might need is in the condo, the view is amazing and the pool is great. Very close to downtown, but incredibly quiet.
The Big Island offers a variety of activities, from ATV rides, scuba diving, big-game fishing, golf, tennis, kayaking, dolphin and whale watching, zip lining, hiking the lava tubes at the Volcano National Park, Kilauea Volcano, star-gazing at the observatory atop Mauna Kea Summit, coffee tours with local growers in South Kona, paddle tours at the botanical gardens, you'll find something for everyone with our diverse terrain.
