The Otter House is a beautiful home that is the perfect blend of that cozy adirondack experience, with modern touches. It is decorated with a rustic modern style. The home's town location is convenient and walking distance to shopping and the olympic center. But, its uniqueness lies in the quiet secluded location right on the water, with beautiful water and mountain views. The town proximity with a quiet, waterfront location is a rare combination in Lake Placid! You can have it all at our house!

The open concept great room is perfect for those family gatherings and for spending time together. There are beautiful hardwood floors and wood trim throughout, a gas fireplace in the living room and granite counters in the kitchen. The second floor of the home features 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, along with a knotty pine sleeping porch for additional sleeping. Also, the open suite in the lower level has a 70" screen TV, game room and guest suite with sleeping for 4 along with its own private full bath. Our home is perfectly laid out for multiple families or a couples' get away. The home contains WIFI throughout.

MAIN FLOOR:

The open concept is great for spending time together. The kitchen opens to both the dining area and living room. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything a cook would need. There are beautiful granite counters with a gas stove for cooking. We enjoy cooking while in our home, so you should find everything required for a gourmet meal.

Kitchen: place settings for 10, coffee maker (drip and Keurig), toaster, blender, mixer, oven and gas stove, microwave, refrigerator

Dining: table for 8 plus 4 barstools on counter

Living: Large, comfy sectional sofa, TV and DVD player, gas fireplace.

Porch: Covered porch with seating for 4 and gas grill right off the dining and living area.

2ND FLOOR:

The upstairs has 3 bedrooms, plus the sleeping porch and sleeping for 8 people.

1st Bedroom: King size bed, walk in closet, and full bath with double sinks and glass walk in shower.

2nd Bedroom: Queen size 4 poster bed with a full closet.

3rd Bedroom: Full size bed including a full size closet.

Main Bath: Full hallway bath with tub/shower combo shared by bedrooms 2 & 3.

Sleeping Porch: Gorgeous knotty pine, year-round porch off the king bed bedroom and 3rd bedroom. It is lovely sitting out here enjoying the view on the chaise lounge, which you can convert into sleeping for 1.

LOWER LEVEL

There is a ton of space for multiple uses in the lower level. The studio suite has room for entertaining, extra sleeping, family game night, or a place for the kids to get away. The lower level sleeps 4.

Sleeping: Queen size Adirondack log bed. Also there are bunk beds in their own separate nook that sleep 2.

Relaxing: Large sectional sofa, 70" flat screen TV and DVD player.

Gaming: Foosball table, PS3 game system, puzzles and board games.

Outdoors: From the lower level, walk right outside to a covered patio. There is seating on the patio for dining or enjoying the view. You will find a fire pit to enjoy the nights and stocked with firewood. Also, there are steps leading to our dock on the Chubb River for some fishing or paddling. There are 2 kayaks and a canoe for your use.

Amenities: All high end linens provided. Puzzles, games, DVD collection and books are there for you to enjoy.

Perfect family vacation!

We had an amazing winter vacation in Lake Placid - skiing, ice fishing and exploring the town. The house was even better than we expected with so much space for our family of 6! It was clean and comfortable, with everything we need to cook meals and relax as a family. We will definitely stay here again if we are back in the area!!

Very comfortable home in a great location, quiet neighborhood. We’ve stayed in multiple homes in Lake Placid and Wilmington over the last 8 years, and this was by far the best. The location can’t be beat. Morning coffee on the deck overlooking the peaceful river was sublime. Walking distance to town (10-15 min walk) and very close to Olympic Center. House was tastefully decorated with comfortable furniture. Go ahead and book it - you won’t regret it!

Awesome family vacation

We had a family of six (4 kids 7 and under) stay on the property and it was amazing. The house literally had everything you could want to do from a nice cooking kitchen to kayaks. We will 100% be trying to stay there again next year. Thank you to the host for having such a great property.

Great place!

We had a great time at this little getaway! Close enough to walk to Lake Placid, but feels like a waterfront mountain retreat. Lots of extras: bikes, kayaks, ice machine, extra towels. The house was very clean, and the owner was very responsive when we had questions or concerns.

We had a wonderful stay! House is just as described with plenty of room. Everything was clean and organized. Kara was amazing to deal with. ADK Family Adventure

The property was in a good location, close to restaurants and attractions. A second trip to Lake Placid is a must in order to do everything on our family’s list. We were able to hike, kayak, and walk the rail trail within minutes of this property. Our last evening was the 4th of July and we had a front row seat to see the fireworks right from the front porch. The only challenge was the rowdy neighbors our first weekend there. We were awakened at 2 in the morning by the group of guys having a bachelor weekend. After they left, things quieted down. There were a couple of maintenance issues, but nothing that impacted our vacation.

Better than Advertised

My family of eight could not be more pleased with our stay (July 9-15, 2022). The home is gorgeous, it's close to the center of town, and there is a ton to do in and around the home. Most of us know the experience of "It looked different online." This was quite the opposite; it was even better in-person. All of us "oohed" and "aahed" for the first hour of our vacation, before enjoying a memory-filled vacation in Lake Placid. Thank you!

Great house

The house was really nice, very clean, and exactly as described. The view of the river was gorgeous and also kayaking and canoeing in it was a fun afternoon activity. The kitchen was comfortable to cook in which we did every night. We watched a movie on the big tv screen in the lower level den. We enjoyed the fire pit as well. Basically we had a great time using the house and everything it had to offer, not just for its access to the Adirondacks. We did plan to walk into town (around half an hour). However, even though we saw other pedestrians, most of the way was on a narrow shoulder - not a sidewalk. Also, the area surrounding Otter House’s development was a bit depressed. The owner/manager was phenomenal. She was quick to respond, and addressed all of our questions- big and small. She made using the house very easy and pleasant. We would definitely recommend the house!

Otter way

The home was as described and as pictured in the VRBO listing. We enjoyed looking at the river behind the home, using the fire pit, and the home itself was roomy and clean and beautiful. It is walkable to Main Street lake placid for us / for others the high grade hill may be an issue for some. The only other issue was how hot and humid the first and second floors became during the mid morning until bedtime. It was not a particularly hot week in lake placid but we had to leave the windows open due to collection of heat inside, and the indoor air would begin to feel somewhat sticky and heavy. The basement living space did stay nice and cool the entire time as promised by the owner. Despite this, and because we were outdoors most of those hours anyways, we would still choose to stay here again.

We love being outdoors in all 4 seasons. We love hiking, skiing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, kayaking, canoeing, biking and fishing. Lake Placid has 4 seasons of access to the activities we love in one of the most beautiful places on earth. We rented this house on multiple occasions and fell in love with it- leading to our purchasing the home in 2020.

Why they chose this property

We rented this house on several occasions and fell in love with the serenity and view of the Chubb River. The house is new with modern amenities and perfectly laid out for multiple families to use at once. Yet furnishings and decoration and style of the house provides authentic Adirondack Charm. The house offers the conveniences of a large and well equipped kitchen, spacious bedrooms with beautiful views, and waterfront access to the Chubb River for fishing, Canoeing, and Kayaking directly from our dock. All while being easy walking distance to Main Street and the Olympic Center.

What makes this property unique

New construction with modern amenities. Meticulously clean. Beautiful views of the Chubb River with views from the back of the house that make you feel miles from anywhere. Direct waterfront access to the Chubb River. Yet walking to town and all of the activities, shopping and restaurants that are on offer there. We think you will love this house as much as we do.
