About Roger Burton
My name is Roger Burton, and I am a retired musician in Dallas, Texas. My wife, Denise Koval, also retired, has been a horticulturist for 35 years and enjoys all the organic sciences. We enjoy the tropics, especially the tropical oceans. We are restored with beautiful, natural settings, the sound of the wind and waves, and the flora and fauna. We spend a good deal of our tropical time walking beaches and swimming the coral reefs. We love the food of the tropics; fresh seafood, fruit, and vegetables. We are fascinated with different cultures, traditions, cuisine, and don't mind the challenge of a new language.
Roger Burton purchased this House in 2000
Why Roger Burton chose Akumal
We chose Akumal, Mexico for it's quite village atmosphere. Akumal has only a single line of homes along the water, the georgous Caribean Sea, and the 5th largest barrier reef in the world just off shore. We find the Mayans sweet, serving, and generous by nature. Their culture and architecture are fastinating. We can still find a deserted beach, yet enjoy so many conveniences. Until you've seen the Milky Way on a moonless night or the Persaides meteor shower on a late summer evening, you have missed something large. And then there are things as simple as moonlight on water and the rustle of palm leaves with your toes in the sand.
What makes this House unique
Casa Caribe is a fully modernized, 40 year old home designed by one of the Yucatan's most famous architects, Jose Moreno. Some of the walls of the house and the pool deck are constructed from smooth coral rocks gathered from the site. The entire ocean side of the house, upstairs and down is glass doors that open to allow the sea breeze and the sound of the waves in. On a mild day you can walk out the back door to steps cut in the rocks a few doors down, and go for a swim or snorkel over Dick's reef or walk a few doors north and swim the reef at Half Moon Bay, or take a 10 minute stroll to Akumal Bay and swim with the turtles or just relax on the beautiful white sand beach. There is a Mayan village very close by, small grocery stores, delightfully quaint restaurants, and a farmers market in the town square. Our staff has been with us for many years and will see that your stay is enjoyable. Whether you never leave the house, or travel out to explore ruins, cenotes, beaches, the jungle or the eco parks of the area, you are sure to have marvelous memories.

We enjoyed our time at Casa Caribe. The property could use some updating, but all and all it was clean and comfortable
My family of 5 (young adult children) loved the house and our time here. Everything feels a little larger than it looks in the pictures - especially the back patio/yard. Christina and Louis are terrific! We loved the location of the house, which is just a short walk to either bay or the town, and the coral beach makes it very private. Thank you, Roger!
Thank you Kristen! I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay at Casa Caribe. We look forwrd to hosting your family again sometime!
great cozy place
First, Christina, the maid and Luis, the gardener are SUPER sweet. The Villa is very clean and spacious. The ocean view is spectacular. And yes, do look up at night and stair at the stars. Simply Amazing. A few things regarding the villa that future renters need to be aware of... all the things that I'm about to list ARE stated somewhere on the description of the villa, but if you do not carefully read-you might miss them.
1. In the common areas, there is no A/C. Your room has A/C, but not in kitchen or living room. It was very hot the first day we got there, however after opening all the windows and doors (there are screens for both) it cooled off. The ocean breeze felt good. We kept all of them open when we were on the property. You must close and lock them when you leave and when all are asleep.
2. The is no beach access. It is very rocky, do not go strolling at night down to the water. You will trip.
3. The pool is in the shade most of the day. Which means you will be chilly when you first get in. Also, don't plan to get much sun. Visit Half Moon Bay, Akumal Beach or Tulum for sun.
4. There are scorpions, which was stated in the documentation. We came across 2 tiny ones in 2 different bathrooms. No one was stung.
5. No mosquitoes until it rained. Then watch out!
This place was great. It's nestled in the quiet town of Akumal and away from the larger towns. If you like lobster and shrimp, you won't be disappointed.
The house was clean and beautiful, Luis and Christina maintained the house and premises daily. Christina also cooked for us one night, which was wonderful! Rhett, the house manager, was very helpful and attentive. We loved the little pool also! Would definitely recommend for families or larger groups.
Thank you Irene! I'm glad you had fun!
Large, comfortable house- fantastic ocean view! Thanks for a fun week!
