Located just one mile from the Northeast entrance to Yellowstone, Gray Wolf Cabin is the perfect place for wildlife watching in Lamar Valley, sightseeing in Yellowstone National Park, and trips to Cody, Wyoming and Red Lodge, Montana on some of America’s most spectacular roads. Lamar Valley has been called the Serengeti of North America due to the vast herds of elk and bison, and large numbers of pronghorn antelope, big horn sheep, coyotes, deer, mountain goats, grizzly bears, black bears and many birds including ravens and bald eagles. Since the reintroduction of the wolf in 1995, this valley has also provided almost daily sighting of wolves belonging to the Druid and Slough Creek packs.
Yellowstone National Park has one the world’s largest collections of thermal features. It provides an endless array of destinations, starting with Yellowstone Falls, Yellowstone Lake, Old Faithful and Mammoth Hot Springs. There are thousands of geysers, fumaroles, mudpots, and hot springs for you to view. Seasonally, you can also soak in a wonderful natural hot tub at the Boiling River just north of Mammoth Hot Springs.
For an adventure outside of Yellowstone National Park, a two-hour drive will take you to Red Lodge, Montana over Beartooth Highway, one of America’s most beautiful roadways. Red Lodge is an old gold mining town, which has grown into a picturesque ski resort with numerous shops and restaurants. Heading to the east, the Chief Joseph Highway over historic Dead Indian Pass provides a wide vista over the Rocky Mountains. Chief Joseph Highway will take you to Cody, Wyoming, where there is a nightly gunfight and rodeo during the summer season. The Cody Museum contains five different sections, including western artworks, a wing with exhibits on Buffalo Bill Cody’s life, exhibits of the Plains Indians’ lives, a firearms exhibit, and a large exhibit of the wildlife of the area.
The cabin is located on one acre of secluded, wooded land, bordering on National Forest land. You can end your day with s'mores around a fire in the fire pit behind the cabin. For a short outing, you can make the 5-minute walk to a 60ft high waterfall or take the Bannock Trail into Cooke City.

We purchased this cabin after we fell in love with wolf watching in Lamar Valley. This is the closest you can stay to the wolves outside of Yellowstone.

Amazing! The cabin was secluded but near shops. We saw a couple of fox while in the cabin. It was a perfect getaway. We will book again!
Very happy to hear that the cabin was what you were hoping for. Hope you can come back soon!
A great winter escape!
What a great place to get away from it all in the winter months. Quiet and very peaceful yet adventure in the park was right down the road. Plenty of animals to keep me entertained. A full moon shining on a snowy Lamar valley was breathtaking after a snowmobiling trip to Old Faithful. The snow shoes were an added bonus. I’d call this cabin home anytime!
Very nice to hear that you enjoyed our cabin. I hope you will be able to return to our little piece of Winter Wonderland in the near future. Thank you!
Couldn’t be more pleased
Very nice place to stay and great people to deal with
So glad you all came and had great snow for your visit. Hope you come back again.
Beautiful location and cabin. Well appointed.
Met or exceeded all of our expectations. Beautiful location. The “cabin” is actually a log home that is well-stocked, thoughtfully decorated and roomy. We loved being able to ski and snow shoe directly from the home.
Thank you for your review. We always love hearing that people enjoy our little piece of paradise. Hope you and your family can come back soon.
We used Home away for a ski trip in Colorado twice, spring break in Florida Keys, vacation in Helen, Georgia but Grey Wolf Cabin is by far the best place we stayed in. Every single detail was with style, we were beyond happy.
Sorry if we used more data than we anticipated but due to hurricane Irma we used Viber for staying in touch with our daughter. She lives in Miami but she was evacuated to Jacksonville during the storm. Our house is 26 ft above sea level so historic flooding in Jacksonville didn't effected the house. Wind destroyed backyard fence and gate but we were blessed that she was safe.
Thank you for sharing your place, time spent in Grey Wolf Cabin will forever be treasured. If you ever decide to sell your place look no further, we are absolutely in love with Grey Wolf Cabin.
Until next time...
P. S. Deposit check received, thanks again.
Thank you for letting us know that you enjoyed Grey Wolf Cabin. I was relieved to hear that your home and family weathered Irma in good shape. We hope you can come back to stay with us soon.
Gray wolf cabin was perfect! It felt like home the moment we walked in.
The location was great for privacy yet convenient to Silver Gate and Cooke City. We wanted to hike and see as much of Yellowstone as possible during our stay. However, the cabin was so comfortable with beautiful views that we didn't mind being there when not exploring. Unlike most places, every convenience was supplied. When we left to travel to Glacier National the second week of our vacation, we wished we could have taken the cabin with us! The resort we stayed at did not compare to Gray Wolf Cabin!
It is always wonderful to hear that our guests have enjoyed their stay at Grey Wolf Cabin. We try to supply everything our guests may need, from snow shoes for the winter time, fire pit for the summer, and lots of information about the intact ecosystem that is Yellowstone National Park.
Located 1.7 miles from the northeast entrance to Yellowstone National Park, the cabin provides the best access to some of the best wildlife watching in North America, especially wolf watching. Open year round, come enjoy the winter wonderland with cross-country skiing from the front door onto the Bannock Trail. Two pairs of snowshoes are available for your use at the cabin. Wintertime provides some of the best wildlife watching.
