We chose to celebrate my 60th birthday by visiting YNP and staying at this AWESOME property in Silver Gate. How can we describe what a wonderful, perfect space this was for us? First, and I *never* say this: the pictures DO NOT DO JUSTICE to the views out those windows. And we live in the Tetons with a huge Teton view, but this is super special. You’re not just looking at a Mountain View. It’s like you are literally ON the mountain side, just below the summit… the alpenglow is outrageous! Second, the space inside is so accommodating and comfortable with everything you might need. The beds are very comfortable with nice linens, duvets, soft pillows. It’s just a cute, comfortable, homey, nice space in a very private quiet location just minutes from the east entrance into the park.
Our routine: wake; coffee & breakfast; pack picnic lunch; jump in car and drive approx 15 minutes to first wildlife view spot; spend rest of the morning watching bears, wolves, bison with babies; set up chairs in beautiful secluded spot with sweeping views of the Lamar for picnic lunch; spend rest of afternoon watching more bears, bison, migrating birds; yawn… let’s go back to house for nap; watch alpenglow on mountain right out the window for cocktail hour; prep easy dinner in well-appointed kitchen; watch one episode of our favorite Netflix show; fall asleep in comfy bed to the lullaby of silent full moon. Next day: repeat. Aaaaaaaahhh…
One thing my husband wants to mention: if you do happen to visit this special time of year (early May), plan to bring your own food. There are no restaurants or grocery stores open this time of year, despite what you may read online. Which makes sense because there’s no one in the area, which is why we came! There was one open bar and we bought a frozen pizza at the gas station in Cooke City, but otherwise we relied on what we brought, which was more than fine, but just word to the wise…
We hope to return here next year! Thank you hosts!!!
