Rosemary's Cottage

Bedrooms 1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

Welcome to the Scott Street Yellow House in Gardiner, Montana. This charming, remodeled bungalow is perfect for a couple, with or without a small child. This historic home mirrors the rich history of the Yellowstone area. Located in the heart of Gardiner, only one mile from the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park and the historic Roosevelt Arch, this cottage began as a log cabin located in the rustic mining town of Jardine. It was moved down the mountain to 'Scott's Addition' on the east side of the Yellowstone River. As the town of Gardiner began to develop, so did the Scott Street Yellow House. It was lath and plastered and renovated in the Arts and Crafts style in the late 1920s reflecting the concern for craftsmanship and artistry of the period.

Remodeled in 2004 with vintage features intact, this one-bedroom home has a modern kitchen with wood floors throughout. There is a sunny reading room, dining room and luxurious claw-footed bathtub for calm contemplation and quite relaxation. In the summer, the Scott Street Yellow House has the added treat of an airy gazebo poised to look out over a lovingly cared-for cottage garden.

Treat yourself to a peaceful retreat. In the center of a quiet town, the cottage is within easy walking distance to grocery store, restaurants, shopping, and recreational activities such as rafting and horseback riding, as well as the wonders of Yellowstone National Park. Make this your home base as you explore the majesty of Yellowstone.

About The Owner

From 2000 through 2008, I worked as the cultural anthropologist at Yellowstone National Park. That means I had the privilege of working with the 26 American Indian tribes who continuously occupied what is now Yellowstone before it became a national park in 1877. I documented their histories at the park, facilitated their ability to conduct ceremonies there, and worked to ensure their heritage and persepctives were represented in all park activities from planning to visitor education. Many of the framed pictures on the walls in my home convey aspects of Indian heritage at the park and in the larger region. I also have pictures of the charismatic megafauna there. I hope you enjoy staying at my home. I plan to return there someday.

Why The Owner chose Yellowstone Country

I purchased the Cottage for my home as an employee of Yellowstone National Park. Tender, loving care was invested into creating my own 'bear den' as a retreat after challenging days of work.

What makes this house unique

My house is like a retreat. Yet, I can enjoy the full compliment of vigorous seasonal activities available in Yellowstone National Park just minutes away. When I return on vacation, I enjoy the peacefulness of the house and its surrounding environment - and the splendid beauty of the garden in mid-summer. Gardiner is still a sleepy little town, especially in the fall, winter, and spring. I experience relaxation and adventure when I am there. My home is also a perfect home for a couple's romantic getaway, too!

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our week at Rosemary's Cottage. It was very comfortable and quaint. We enjoyed the outdoor space, although it was a bit cool during our stay. We also enjoyed our visits by an elk (although we don't know how she got into the small yard) and what seemed to be a resident deer. Would recommend this place to any one that doesn't want to be couped up in a hotel room. Hope to be back someday.

A blessing and restful retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I celebrated our 25 anniversary at Rosemary's cottage and were blessed by staying in this cozy and warm cottage to stay at. It is located right at the North entrance of Yellowstone and a great retreat at the end of the day after traveling through the park. I would recommend Rosemary's cottage to any one who is visitng this area. It has one bedroom, but also a couch that folds into a bed, so it fits four people comfortably. We had a visitor in the backyard one day, a young male deer who was eating the apples and we opened the gate to let him out and he walked out and down the street to catch up with his buddies. It is located in a cute little town with some nice restaurants. We traveled to Bozeman on one day and went to the cute shops. My husband and I will definitely stay at this cottage again.

Perfect cottage for our family

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at the Rosemary's cottage while visiting Yellowstone. The cottage is comfortable and clean, we really liked the reading corner and the kitchen. The beds are comfortable, sofa bed included. The garden is so colorful with different flowers and trees. Really enjoyed our stay, we will go back.

"Home again!"

  • 5 of 5

It's now 6 years we've been staying in The Little Yellow Cottage and it has become an essential part of our annual trip to Yellowstone. 2 weeks this year and it flew by, Grace keeps the place so well and it was good to have a chat with her again this year. As always Kristin was a great help when booking. Nowhere else to stay in Gardiner as far as we are concerned, already going to book for 2017.

Cozy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay and got to have all the conveniences of home. We had stayed for years in Gardiner in a motel with a very small kitchen so it was great to have the space, light coming in the windows and beautiful flowers. A great place to stay. We will be back.

Excellent location north of the park

  • 5 of 5

I had a wonderful stay at Rosemary's cottage in early June. I really looked forward to preparing my own meals and relaxing in the clawfoot tub after a great day of hiking in the park. The drive from the park to Gardiner was less than I was expecting, which was a nice surprise. Be careful when you get the key out of lockbox -- the front of the lockbox can easily fall out and is quite heavy!
