Overview

About the property

Condo, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Hanalei Bay Resort is a 5 Star Resort and is widely regarded as one of the nicest places to stay on Kauai. 8232 is ideally situated on the 'point' of this 22 acre Resort giving you spectacular views! This 1 bedroom suite w/loft has some of the best views in all of Kauai. Unobstructed views of Bali Hai, Hanalei Bay, the Pacific Ocean, and panoramic 180 degree views of 4000 ft. mountains laced with waterfalls are yours when you look out or step out onto the private lanai. One of the rare unobstructed views left on Kauai. From the lanai you overlook a protected bird sanctuary while watching and listening to the white water surf of Hanalei Bay.

This 1 Bedroom condo also has a separate lockoff/hotel style room (8231)with a King Size Tropical Canopy Bed with a full Master Bath and private Lanai that sleeps 2 for added flexibility and budget. WHEN INQUIRING, PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHICH CONFIRURATION YOU ARE INTERESTED IN. 8231 sleeps 2, 8232 sleeps 4, 8231/32 sleeps 6. THIS CALENDAR IS FOR THE 1 BEDROOM SUITE, 8232 ONLY.

This condo is a top floor unit, which gives you better views, improved security, vaulted ceilings for a much larger feel, and you don't have the noise of people above you. However, this is one of the few 2 story buildings on the property; most are 3 stories, so you don't have to climb 2 sets of stairs every time you enter or leave. There are only 6 steps to reach the front door.

Furnished in authentic Pacific-style with Hawaiiana and Polynesian antiques from around the world - including China, Thailand, the Phillippines, Bali, and Burma - this beautiful condo has an amazing collection of old Hawaii touches. The spacious interior is not only elegant, but interesting and relaxing. Completely renovated by a well known designer from New York, you will find elegant white tiled floors throughout. Tropical fans give the condo a spacious and elegant feel. The bedroom has a romantic king sized canopy bed and the oversized loft has a pair of Mahogany twin beds with brand new mattresses, allowing the condo to sleep 4 people in beds. We also have air mattresses if necessary for up to a total of 6 people. Your private lanai has teak furniture, and the condo has a complete kitchen for cooking meals when you're not dining at one of the fine local restaurants. The bedroom has its own flat screen TV with DVD and the entire unit has wireless internet access. A washer and dryer are also in 8232 (one bedroom suite).

Guestbook comments from the owner

Aloha,

I am sitting in your lovely condo. It has been absolutely amazing for us, as we have never seen anything like this island before. Obviosly things are extremely complicated with no car and an extremely limited budget, but we are remaining totally optimistic and making the best. If we had a car, we probably wouldn't have walked along the coast, trying to get to Hanaeli Bay--it was amazing to be near the ocean and all of tht lush vegetation hanging over it! We didn't try to cross the river at that time, but did for a return from the town after paying the cab fare to get over there. Umm . . . we shouldn't have carried a beach bag as the camera and cell phones got wet when the depth got over Brad's head and had to swim! What a memory.

Anyhow, thank you for the last-minute arrangements. ... I'll be pleased to share a nice review of the facilities--and especially, your professionalism. Thanks for a life-long memory.

~ Julie :)

I would give more stars if I could! This place is a dream and Steve is wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this listing after viewing the pictures online and when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find numerous upgrades and amenities not shown. The kitchen is immaculate (granite counters!), the living room is spacious (with amazing artwork and furniture!) and the master bedroom views are seriously to die for. The beds are all very comfortable. Steve is extremely responsive and accommodating. I stayed here with three other girls. We would definitely come back and do it the exact same. Thanks Steve!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Elizabeth! That might be the best review I've ever had! I'm thrilled that all of you had such a great time, and that you enjoyed the place and our lovely island as much as I do. I Look forward to hearing from you in the future!

The unit has nice views, but is VERY tired.

  • 1 of 5

Apparently, we should have looked at more reviews before booking this condo because upon further research, this condo has had unresolved problems for quite some time. Namely, there is no privacy in the bedroom because the very old wicker shades are in sad shape and only one of them partially works. As a result, my husband and I purchased a plastic shower curtain and hung it with clothes pins to form a makeshift shade to have privacy from the neighboring unit. In addition, the dishwasher, while relatively new I believe, is not attached to the cabinet and lurched forward every time we opened the door. The kitchen is not well equipped. There is no spatula, very few cooking utensils in general, and no blender.

The bathtub/shower area is very tired. The shower curtain is not long enough so every time we showered, water got all over the floor. The cover to the light/fan combination is broken off and we seldom had enough hot water to take more than a 5 minute shower.

While the view from the unit is nice, it's not worth the aggravation and we would not stay here again.

Best view ever, but the unit is tired.

  • 3 of 5

The resort is very nice and the view from this unit is unparalleled! Close to the beach and an easy drive to Princeville and Hanalei Bay. The issue is with this unit - the condo itself is a little tired. It's clean and functional, but it's very outdated. Some of the electrical outlets - like the ones next to the bed where you would want to plug in your phone - are so loose that the plugs fall out of the wall. The light bulbs kept burning out or going off and on. The wiring needs updating. The hot water heater runs out of water very fast. A quick shower is all you get. The hot water begins to cool down right after you get the shampoo in your hair. We called the resort maintenance to perhaps warm up the temp on the hot water heater unit and discovered the hot water heater is built into the kitchen cabinets, under the bar area, and the entire cabinet panel needs to be removed with tools in order gain access. Needless to say, that did not happen. And the batteries in both tv remotes did not work, no spares in sight, so we had to make a trip to the store to buy batteries! There is not good lighting in the unit to relax on the couch or in bed to read if that is what you would like. We kept having to move lights around to get some decent reading light. Not a bad place to stay, but for the premium rates, it should be fresher, cleaner, and everything should work!

Great Views but entire property needs to be updated

  • 3 of 5

Loved the views here even though the weather did not cooperate for us. We will come back to north shore again but only during the summer or fall when there is less chance of rain. Views from the unit are incredible. Very unique pool with swim up bar and sandy area for kids, also very cool sandy bottom hot tub with waterfall. Restaurant was nice, good food, cold beer, and live music.

The bathroom is very small and the shower needs a longer liner to keep water from getting everywhere. Beach amenities (chairs, cooler, toys, etc.). would also be a great addition. A/C unit was very cold, had to use batteries from TV remote because neither A/C unit remotes had batteries. Overall the resort is dated and could benefit from a refresh.

Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it!

  • 5 of 5

First of all, this was our first time using VRBO and the entire process was simple, methodical, and complete. But the real review needs to be about the unit itself. IT IS SIMPLY EVERYTHING THAT IS ADVERTISED, PHOTOGRAPHED, TALKED ABOUT. My family and I hadn't had a vacation together in probably 10 years and were anxious to see if the place was as great as it sounded. I'm happy to report that it indeed was. Absolutely gorgeous views, great living space (nicely decorated and well-equipped), and a nice resort to call home for a week (or more!). My only wish is that we could have stayed longer. Steve (the owner) responds almost immediately to texts (ours were simply to confirm we had arrived and loved the place, and then to let him know we were sadly heading home) and is extremely nice to work with from reservation to moving in. If this place looks good for you don't hesitate - book it! And enjoy like we did. Now we just have to figure out how we can get back soon . . .

The Best View on the Island

  • 5 of 5

The property was great, absolutely fantastic view. The unit is well decorated, with comfortable furniture and is well equipped for your stay. The bathroom was a touch tight to share with my wife and two teenage daughters, but not a big deal. The grounds of the resort are beautifully landscaped, but be prepared to do so some up and down walking. There is shuttle service to the beach though. All in all it was a fantastic place to spend our time on Kauai, and we would definitely stay again!
