Privacy & Views

Alpine ski-in & ski-out private luxury home located trail-side on the Galloping Goose ski-run in Mountain Village, at the heart of the Tellluride ski resort. Adjacent to the National Forest at 10,001' altitude with spectacular mountain views. This home is surrounded by towering Aspens and Pines and completely hidden at the end of a private road for complete seclusion.

Winter

* Slope-side. Over 300' of direct ski-run frontage makes it easy to stop at the home while skiing for lunch, hot chocolate, gear changes or a warm fireplace. Also, remember to invite friends to stop at the home for Après-ski on the last run of the day. It's easy to book a Telski ski instructor to ski to the back door in the morning to pick up the kids for ski lessons. Also, when it starts to snow, you can pop in for powder skis or snowboards to take advantage of the fresh pow-pow. You will enjoy 'fresh tracks' on the ski run each morning as the first skiers down the ski run, before the lifts even start turning!

* Telski. World-class skiing with 18 lifts turning, 2 high-speed gondolas, 147 ski trails, Nastar race course, terrain parks, back-country, hike-to, extreme & helicopter-ski terrain. Telluride has an average annual snowfall of over 300 inches. Without question, Telski boasts the finest ski school in Colorado, catering to all ages and skill levels. Also, Nordic skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, horseback riding and ice-climbing!

Summer

* Festivals. There are over 30 summer festivals and concerts in Telluride during the summer, featuring renowned artists such as Alison Krauss, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Phish, Neil Young, etc.

* Mountain Biking. (15 mountain bikes are waiting for you in the garage). Telluride is surrounded by an extensive network of single track bike trails and old mining roads great for every skill level from beginners to the most advanced riders. Push the limits on one of Telluride’s classic single track trails, or take a scenic ride on Telluride’s valley floor alongside the San Miguel River. Telluride is the perfect place to explore the mountains or join an experienced guide on a personal tour catered to your skill level and interests. Also, downhill on the ski runs! There is no need to pedal if you choose the free gondola to transport you and your bikes to the top of the mountain. The gondola is equiped with bike racks, and provides access to the Mountain Village Bike Park, as well as a network of free trails within the Telluride Ski Resort boundary.

* Hiking. Instant access to hiking trails and the Uncompahgre National Forest.

* Stand-up paddle-boarding. (stand-up paddle boards ready and waiting for you in the garage).

* Golf. World-class 18-hole championship golf course.

* Summer Camp. Telluride Academy is recognized as a premier US summer kids' camp.

* River rafting. White-water rafting down the San Miguel River, on your own or with professional guides.

* Fly fishing. On the San Miguel, Trout Lake, or many of the secret streams for rainbow trout, on your own or with professional guides.

* Exploring. Ghost towns, abandoned mining camps, waterfalls, gold panning.

* Mountain climbing. There are several 'fourteeners' and less challenging climbs, on your own or with a guide.

* Horseback riding.

* Rock-climbing.

Two Towns unlike any others.

* Telluride (population: 2,220) is different. Don't look for a Wal-Mart, a gas station, a neon sign, a lift-line or even a single traffic light - there are none! Nestled in a 'box canyon' and surrounded by the steep-forested San Juan Mountains, the topography of this historic mining town makes growth in any direction impossible! The entire town is designated as a historical district and maintains a small 'mining-town' charm, with strictly-governed Victorian architecture. Explore the abandoned mining camps and frontier ghost towns which dot the hillsides.

* Mountain Village (population: 978) is Telluride's sister town located on the mountain, in the heart of the ski area. A european-style alpine community nestled high above Telluride at 9,500+ elevation. The towns are connected by a free gondola system operating over the mountain tops. There is no need for a car as homeowner guests enjoy free SUV service anywhere in Mountain Village; a large fleet of Mercedes Benz 12-passenger Sprinter vans await your call to or from any destination.

About Rich Geiger (owner) @ (512) 320-8844

Barbara, Rich and Jonah. We enjoy alpine skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain-biking paddle-boarding, and exploring the Rocky Mountains. Our son Jonah is a nationally-ranked NASTAR skier, as well as a defenseman for the Arizona Jr. Coyotes travel hockey team.

We lived in this home for several years, so I am happy to share with you everything that I know about this home, the rental market, the best ski access on the mountain, whether to stay in Telluride or Mountain Village, transportation, directions, fine dining, best places for equipment, fly fishing secrets, heliskiing, the best fishing and rafting guides, etc.

Rich Geiger (owner) @ (512) 320-8844 purchased this house in 2007

Why Rich Geiger (owner) @ (512) 320-8844 chose Telluride Area

We chose to buy a home here because Telluride is spectacular.

In the winter, the ski resort has 18 lifts turning, two high-speed gondolas, 148 ski trails, NASTAR course, terrain parks, backcountry and hike-to terrain, along with extreme & heliski terrain. And since it is so difficult to get here, the ski runs are always wide-open, and there is never a lift line.

In the summer, the golf course, hiking, mountain-biking, rafting, paddle-boarding, fly-fishing is outstanding.

Telluride is surrounded by mountains and has only 2221 residents - that's smaller than Mayberry RFD. The topography is a box-canyon, so it cannot grow in any direction. There are no crowds, bad attitudes or aggravation. The entire Town of Telluride is designated as a historical district, so the town maintains an 'old west' mining-town feel with strictly-governed Victorian architecture and many interesting places to explore (abandoned mining towns, ghost towns, etc.). Hop in your four-wheel drive and you can cross over the mountain passes and explore Telluride's mining past. Don't expect to see a chain store, a chain restaurant, a Starbuck's, a gas station, a neon sign, traffic, or even a single traffic light; there are none. This town's character and growth has been strictly controlled and restricted by the Town Council and the Telluride Historical Comission, and there have been no compromises. This is not Vail or Aspen - you will not find evidence of a single commercial sell-out in the Town of Telluride.

This home is located on the ski mountain at 10,001' elevation, so it extremely private with incredible views, yet just a short ski run down the mountain and you are in the village core with the all the amenities offered by the 5-star resort hotels. If you are flying, the airport is just 10 min from the home, and can accomodate private planes and smaller commercial aircraft; however, be prepared for the landing on the mountain-top runway.

What makes this house unique

Ski-in / Ski-out. This alpine luxury mountain home offers some of the best ski-run frontage in Mountain Village. Over the years, our family has rented many homes that were represented as 'ski-in' or 'ski-out.' Unfortunately, most turned out to be only 'ski access.' This always meant a long hike (with gear and kids) at the beginning and/or the end of the day. This can sap the fun and energy out of a ski day for both the kids and the adults. Loading up a car, fooling around packing equipment, dealing with snow and ice on the roads, looking for parking - do you really want to mess with all of this frustration? When you stay in this home, you do not even need a car. As the home is alongside the Galloping Goose ski-run, you never have to leave the house. The kids can come and go, meet at the house, have lunch, drinks, change out gear, warm up by the fire, or just take a break. If you have kids, and you actually want to enjoy your own vacation, this is the place. Mom and Dad, you deserve a vacation too; if you have to be the driver, ski valet, equipment hauler, shuttle person, communications director and counselor (yes, little kids can get grumpy with 25 lbs of gear). As a bonus, living ON the mountain allows you 'fresh tracks' on your first run each morning, before the lifts even start turning. Be the envy of every powder hound - there is no better way to start your ski day! With the ski-mountain location at 10,001' elevation, you will be surrounded by pine and aspen trees, with total privacy and seclusion, as the home is located at the end of a 500-foot driveway, which is located at the end of a private road!

Guestbook comments from the owner

"The house was absolutely perfect and the location was private and convenient. My three girls were in heaven. It was wonderful to wake up and see the Elk right in the backyard. The house had everything we could have needed and more. Thank you for making our stay so perfect! We'll be back for sure!"

Fabulous Telluride Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely LOVE this property! This is our third trip to Geigerhaus with a different set of family/friends. We have enjoyed sharing this warm, comfortable, well maintained, luxurious property. The large house allows everyone to spread out and relax. The views are stunning! It feels like you are wrapped in the mountains. This house accommodates people with various interests. Our teenagers wanted to hang out and play games downstairs. You can easily sled on the Galloping Goose slope right outside using the sturdy sleds provided in the garage. Some chose to hike several trails around Telluride including the beautiful walk up to Bridal Veil Falls. Some chose to stay home and read by the beautiful fireplace surrounded by the amazing scenery. And of course we were able to explore and shop in Telluride and Mountain village. There is something for everyone!

The house feels like home. All of the beds are very comfortable with nice linens. The master bathroom has a steam shower and spa bathtub. Pure heaven! The two queen bedrooms on the second level each have a private bathroom. The large basement is the perfect hangout space with large bedrooms and a full bathroom. Laundry room is nice and convenient. All snow gear can be managed inside the mud room with hooks and benches. There is plenty of entertainment at the house with a pool table, video game console, board games, movies, books, TV, or just play in the back yard or relax in the hot tub! We cooked most of our meals in the large, well stocked kitchen. The large dining table accommodates 12 and the table in the kitchen will fit even more! The Dial a Ride service is fantastic providing fast and friendly service. We didn't need to drive anywhere and guests had flexibility and freedom to come and go as they pleased. You can get anywhere within Mountain Village or Telluride without the stress of driving or parking. The owners are very responsive, helpful, and friendly. We did not have any issues with the home, but there is a local manager who will respond quickly with any needs while you are there. We absolutely love this beautiful home and are already making plans to return next year! Thank you Rich and Barbara for providing your beautiful home for our family to enjoy!

We hope to host your group again next year to continue your family tradition! All best, Barbara & Rich p.s., we hope your little dog enjoyed the snow!

Best Vacation Rental in Telluride, CO

  • 5 of 5

Pictures (although they are absolutely beautiful) do not do this home justice. We've stayed at many VRBO homes and this home is tied for First Place if not First Place on its own. It is incredible!

We were able to sled ride outside of the home with our young nieces and nephew. We could not have had a better time!

I would give it ten (10) stars (on a scale of 1 to 5) if I could!

Our girls (dogs) really loved it too!

Fantastic stay at Geigerhaus for a family reunion

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week here in mid-June for a rare family reunion (19 people, ranging in age from 11 to 88) and had a wonderful time in this gracious and spacious mountain home. It was the perfect size for us, with enough room for everyone to have privacy when needed and plenty of open, shared space for the larger group to hang out and dine together. The house is beautifully and tastefully decorated (high-end furnishings, nice attention to detail, hotel-like amenities such as rain shower-heads in some of the bathrooms, nice toiletries) and very well-maintained. It looks like a house that the owners themselves would want to live in, not just a house for rentals. Most of our group have travelled extensively, and appreciate when a place feels both like home but also luxurious. The kitchen was large and well-stocked, even with appreciated items such as paper products and basic spices. We ate most of our dinners at home given the size of our group, and there was plenty of dining space. The house is unusually well-stocked with entertainment amenities that the younger crowd really enjoyed: pool table, foosball table, mountain bikes, games & puzzles, DVDs and CDs (although we only watched one movie), etc. We also enjoyed sitting out on the deck and using the hot-tub.

The town of Telluride is small but charming -- good restaurants (we mostly ate lunches out, except for one very nice steak dinner at the New Sheridan Chop House), many cute dogs, and some interesting shops. The gondola ride was a highlight! We happened to be there at the start of the Bluegrass Festival, so we also spent a day doing that. But we were glad we had arrived days before the festival because it was quieter and less crowded. We also visited Black Canyon (about an hour and a half away) and Alta Lakes (beautiful and worth the hike!). Our more adventurous family members did a lot of mountain biking and running up and down the mountain. I personally couldn't do that because the high altitude made breathing more difficult -- I was winded after going up and down the stairs (and I'm in good shape)!

I would definitely recommend this house for family get-togethers! The owners were very helpful and friendly in their communications. The only suggestion I would make would be to add an additional bathroom on the lowest level since there were 10 people sharing one bathroom on that level (so the kids ended up using the upstairs bathrooms).

Thank you very much for sharing your wonderful home!

Great slopeside home

  • 5 of 5

The Geigerhaus is a beautiful home right on the slopes of Telluride. The home is tastefully decorated with plenty of space for everyone. The stock of toiletries, paper products, and trash bags was a welcome ammenity. Rich and Barbara were very easy to work with and answered all my questions very quickly. Everyone was able to ski in and out of this home which made it very convenient for our large group with varying ski abilities. The on call shuttle service in Mountain Village was also very handy - we didn't need our rental SUVs at all! I definitely recommend this house to anyone visiting Telluride.

Family Reunion - Fantastic Time

  • 5 of 5

We hold our once every three year family reunion at beautiful locations all around the country. This was the first time it was held in the fantastic San Juan mountains. The family was not disappointed - the mountain scenery was incredible. The activities in the area kept our wide demographic group busy with hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, gentle biking, golf - regular and disc, mountain biking, pub hopping, gondola riding, shopping, and playgrounding.Getting to and from the various activites was very easy using the local Dial-A-Ride system - a couple of our cars didn't move all week. And as if the area wan't enough to make it a great reunion, the house was the icing on the cake. It provided enough space for the 6 individual familes to spread out when needed, but allowed great communal get togethers at dinner time when we could all eat together and share telling of the day's adventures. The combined open area of the kitchen, dining table area, living room and deck allowed for all of us to be together without feeling cramped. The jacuzzi was used frequently by sore hikers and bikers, but just as frequently by the non-sore family members. The game room hosted many pool and foosball matches, and even a Wii Dance competiton. The spaciuos back yard accomadated full up wiffle ball games and several croquet matches. The line up of new mountain bikes in the garage was impressive, and contibuted to the sore bodies that needed the jacuzzi eventually. The manger was very helpful, checking in once or twice. And when a neighborhood issue arose the owner handled it swiftly and professionally.

We would highly reccomend this home to anyone seeking a similar family reunion, or other large gathering seeking a good mix of light to rigorous activity and relaxation in a gorgeous mountain setting.

We hope to return some day.

I can see why everyone says good things about this house. The house is well equipped, the included car service is efficient, the house is spacious for large groups, ski-in/ski-out is fairly convenient, and the owner is accommodating. I would easily recommend anyone stay here, great experience. Thanks
