Located in the beautiful Tarryall Valley with scenic historic preservation sites along the winding picturesque byway, Lazy River Ranch is a working hay and cattle ranch. It is also a well-stocked premier fly-fishing paradise. The RMAC leases the river from the owner. If you wish to fish, arrangements can be made at the time of booking for day passes. Passes cost $35/per person per day. If your group is more than 4 or you wish to play in the river and tube the block of the river is $140/day. 24' rainbow trout are not uncommon nor is the sighting of large elk, deer and big horn sheep. The elk and deer come down to the river in late evening or early morning to drink. A skillful hunter will even see wild turkey and sage grouse. At 8,800 to 9,000', the 160 acre ranch backs to the Lost Creek Wilderness and offers spectacular views from hiking trails that can take you up to 12,000' in elevation. The ranch house - completed in 2008 - is beloved by the owners for its location and beauty.

The river is strictly fly fishing, catch and release (additional fee passes required) on 1¼ miles of stream bordered by some willows winding through irrigated hay meadows in a gently rolling valley bottom. You will hear coyotes and owls at night as you star gaze at a sky where you will clearly see the Milky Way and more stars than you knew existed. There is an outdoor fireplace to keep you warm and for roasting marshmallows. After just a day or two you will feel like you have finally gotten that long-needed rest. As your cares melt away you will see the world in a whole new light - come visit and discover!

It's an easy 85 mile drive South West of Denver or 60 miles North West of Colorado Springs. Ask for directions when you make your reservation.

Great place for a large group, especially having separate beds for a fishing group.

It's a good drive up there so bring your provisions. We planned to go out for dinner each night but switched gears and cooked in. We were ther to fish and didn't have much time to enjoy the entire property. Only negatives were needs a new gas grill and dishwasher

Owner's Response: First of all, we apologize for the broken dishwasher. We were unable to get anyone out there before you arrived. Knowing this, I believe Kaitrin took out paper products for your use. Secondly, thank you, thank you for your comment about the grill. I have been lobbying for a new one for three years! Kaitrin, who incidentally doesn’t grill, has insisted that it was fine! So, guess what😃 due to your review, we get a new grill. Kaitrin is a wonderful daughter, manager and great cook with a crock pot! Again, we are sorry for your inconveniences and hope you will come again - to inspect the grill!

First Class Accomodations

  • 5 of 5

The house is very spacious and comfortable. It was in spotless condition upon our arrival. The house is fully equipped with extra supplies' of everything. The Tarryall valley is a hidden gem tucked away from the commercialism of Colorado's ski industry. It is also a first class fishery that is mostly private. Stream access is an valuable benefit to fisherman. Enjoy the evening mountain air in the screened in porch free from the bothersome mid-summer mosquitos.

Relaxing stay disconnected from tv, internet, and phones

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was great. The house was large and had everything we needed. Beds provided great nights sleep. The outdoors provided plenty of activities ... fishing, hiking, tubing on river, and area for dogs to exercise. It was July so mosquitoes were present however in Colorado you must expect them. The property description was perfect and I would recommend staying here ... good time was had by all!

Magical place

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 60th birthday party here. It really was the perfect location, close to Denver but so peaceful and private. The house itself was amazing. There was enough room for the whole family, the grandkids loved the bunk beds. We played outside in the river, hiked the hills, climbed the rocks and had killer whiffle ball games! Memories like these are priceless. I hope we can return soon. Thank you Kaitrin for sharing this magical place!

Amazing-its gorgeous. Beautiful home with all the amenities you could ever want!

  • 5 of 5

Couldn't imagine spending our honeymoon anywhere else. The home is beautifully appointed and has a ton of space - with all the bells and whistles you could ever want. The location is breathtaking - especially hiking through the mountains of Pike National Forest. Untouched and simply perfect.

We saw mule deer and even a bull elk right by the property! Neighbors baling hay and anglers fished - we enjoyed spending time with them and also caught a huge rainbow trout! Hoping to see the Aspens at their peak but caught it a tad early. We still saw our share of golden color and mountainscapes that are hard to put into words. God's country for sure.

First time on vacation we never left the property-tells you how much it has to offer. Definitely will come back again and hope to draw elk tags so we can be here for the elk hunting season. Thank you again for making such a wonderful memory for us - we'll be back!!!!

Idyllic family getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place to disconnect from the world and spend time walking, fishing, visiting, and exploring. The house is very comfortable with oodles of space. We loved looking out the windows on the cool mornings, and sitting on the screen porch watching the hummingbirds and evening rabbits. The views are extraordinary. A truly special place!

About Kaitrin

The owner is a geologist who enjoys all the rock formations in the area. The ranch was purchased as a retreat from a work life of international travel and long hours. It has been a life saver. The picture, taken circa 2007 is of owner's daughter and friend.

Kaitrin purchased this house in 1982

Why Kaitrin chose Lake George

We bought property in this location because it is close enough to Denver to go for a short weekend and yet it is secluded enough that you really feel you have gotten away. It is a wonderful site for family reunions, weddings and small company retreats.

What makes this house unique

We have always enjoyed the fishing and hunting - both are first class. We have gone many years without buying beef. Our children have enjoyed years of fun in the outdoors with their friends. We used to give them each a dollar and they would walk a mile or so to the country store to buy candy. That kept them busy and out of our hair! They also spent hours playing in the river. Now they come and bring their children and teach them the same love of the outdoors that they have.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We LOVED it. The house was so clean and well appointed - we spent pretty much all our time there. So warm and cozy, and the view was outstanding. The water was running a little high and fast for catching, but we fished nonetheless. And the weather was totally freaky, but that was great too. MY whole goal for the vacation was to just sit and watch the weather, and Colorado did not disappoint. I can't wait to come back! Truly one of the most beautiful properties we've rented.
