Do you want to leave civilization behind, and have your own private cabin in the woods? Then Tyler’s Cabin is for you! Throughout the Winter we will remain open, but only to guests that have had experience living in the snow. Access to the cabin is by snowshoe or cross country ski on an unplowed road. It's not for the inexperienced or feint-hearted. Contact Owners for available dates.
It's hard to imagine, but unpopulated areas like this DO still exist in the Sierras - where you can go for days without seeing or hearing anyone, your kids can safely play outside and just be kids, and your dog can romp off leash.
What separates us from other cabins in the area? Solitude, solitude, solitude! Tyler’s Cabin is a remote and secluded 2-story cabin situated on 8 acres of untouched mountain wilderness, at the end of a private road. Your own little private piece of paradise.
The cabin is surrounded by pine trees and a spring wildflower-filled meadow, with not another home in sight. Tyler's Cabin backs up to U.S.F.S. land, so the cabin's location places you smack in the middle of your own personal sanctuary. The cabin is perfect for a peaceful romantic getaway, a family vacation, an inspiring writer and artist's retreat, or just a place to go to get away from it all and enjoy unspoiled nature and solitude.
INSIDE: The cabin sleeps 5 people comfortably. Upstairs you’ll find 2 semi-private sleeping areas divided by a staircase and removable curtain (each side has a Sealy queen-sized bed), a ½ bath (toilet, sink and vanity).
Downstairs you’ll find one queen sized sofa bed romantically placed in the living room, across from the woodstove. There is also one queen sized futon in the private back bedroom which doubles as a bedroom/entertainment room (complete with flat screen T.V. and extensive current video library.) Finally, there is a full bath (toilet/commode/shower) downstairs right off the private bedroom. This is a perfect set up for the kids, with the parents upstairs in their own private retreat.
The open floor plan downstairs allows for comfort and togetherness. Overstuffed chairs flank the updated wood-burning stove, and are a perfect spot to curl up with a good book, while the evening meal is cooked nearby.
The cabin is fully stocked, and comes complete with condiments, herbs, baking supplies, pots, pans, utensils, and all modern appliances – even a rice cooker and waffle maker! All of our complimentary supplies and toiletries help our guests feel that Tyler's Cabin is their home away from home.
The cabin is wired throughout for "mountain speed" internet access (1 gig per day, per family), so using your laptop or IPad anywhere in the cabin is a breeze for research and checking emails. Additionally, there is an “office” area upstairs, which includes adult guest access to a fax/copy/scanner. For entertainment you'll find a 40' flat screen TV and DVD player downstairs, as well as a wireless music amplifier in the living room to enjoy your favorite music.
For our furry guests we provide doggy beds, water and food dishes, toys and treats. Did we mention that dogs can hike with you - off leash?
OUTSIDE: The front and back decks provide complete privacy, serenity, bird watching, reading, (gas) barbecuing, sunbathing or doing absolutely nothing. The meadow areas surrounding the cabin, and long driveway, are perfect for throwing a ball for your furry friend.
LOCATION: The cabin is situated 4 hours east of the Bay Area (just off Hwy 4) in one of the last remaining unspoiled wilderness areas of the high Sierras. It is 45 miles east of Murphy's, 22 miles east of Arnold, 1.5 miles from the town of Bear Valley, and 3.5 miles from Lake Alpine. Even though the cabin is less than a mile off Hwy 4, you'll feel like you’re hundreds of miles away from civilization.
ACTIVITIES: In Bear Valley your kids can attend Bear Valley summer camp (http://www.bearvalley.com). The whole family can dine seasonally at several different eateries ranging from gourmet to pizza. You can sip a drink at the Creekside Bar & Restaurant located in the historic Bear Valley Lodge, stock up on supplies at the General Store (circa 1850), rent kayaks and mountain bikes, attend the Bear Valley Music Festival (http://www.bearvalleymusicfestival.org) in July/August work up a good sweat at the annual “Death Ride” over Ebbett’s Pass, rock climb, hike hundreds of miles of trails (portions of the Pacific Crest Trail, the Emigrant Trail, and the breathtaking Carson/Iceberg Wilderness), go geocaching, climb to the top of one of the numerous peaks and take in the awe-inspiring views of the Dardanelles, Ebbett’s Pass, Inspiration Point, and even Yosemite's Half Dome (on a clear day.)
Just 3.5 miles from the cabin sits granite-surrounded Lake Alpine where Canadian geese roost, and ospreys, golden and bald eagles have been spotted. The lake has a strict 10 mph speed limit for all boats – so it’s quiet and perfect for bird watching, sun bathing, paddle boarding, kayaking and canoeing. There are even some sandy beaches for little swimmers. Anglers can fish for rainbow trout, and the lake gets stocked with full-sized fish on a regular basis. We’ll share our favorite fishing spots with you, and what the fish are gobbling up. You can rent paddle boats, canoes, and small aluminum motor boats right at the lake. At the end of your day you can enjoy a meal or drink at the Lake Alpine Lodge Restaurant and Bar. To help with your outdoor summer fun, we provide fishing poles, fishing tackle, two kayaks (one blow up), Grumman canoe (w/life jackets), fanny packs, back packs, and ice chests.
VENTURING OUT: You'll find historic Murphys, Angels Camp, and Columbia. There's a little something for everyone in each of those towns: antiquing, exploring caves, zip-lining across a canyon, wine tasting at numerous wineries, enjoying an outdoor concert at Ironstone Vineyards (http://www.ironstonevineyards.com), horseback riding, or visiting a historic gold mining town where cars are not allowed (only covered wagons).
Tyler's cabin is the perfect blend: You can be away from it all, or be right in the middle of high mountain action-packed fun. The only thing missing from Tyler's cabin is YOU.
