About this property

The Governor Cabin

This is the famous " Cookshack " log cabin owned by Governor Lawton Chiles and used for gatherings of state leaders and friends. We have renewed this wonderful cabin as a 2 story, 1 bedroom with a sleeper sofa and a twin daybed downstairs sleeping up to 5. The Governor Cabin has full wrap around porch and full kitchen. It’s simply an amazing natural retreat. Located adjacent to our gorgeous lake suitable for fishing, boating, paddleboarding, and sunbathing on the dock. And located amidst hundreds of acres of pristine fields, orchards, lakes and forests for a full array of activities in a beautiful natural setting.
The Governor is a one of a kind, true vintage cabin but upfitted with all the amenities for comfort- starlink wifi, heated and cooled, custom tub and shower, full kitchen with all the amenities of home.

Total Get Away!
The perfect spot for nature and seclusion! The cabins (there are 2, dating back to 1890) are nestled in the back of an organic blueberry farm, very serene surroundings. The cabin is charming, a “true” log cabin. Huge wrap around porch, lovely bathroom with both a claw foot soaking tub and shower. While it is not insulated, there are several heating options available if going in the Winter. We enjoyed our Weekend while in town for a family Wedding!

Peaceful and beautiful area with wonderful historic cabin
We stayed 3 nights for our anniversary and it was wonderful! Gorgeous property and very peaceful. The cabin is historic (read up on it if you don’t know the background) but updated just enough to be very comfortable. TV, internet (weather can affect it a lot) full kitchen, great tub and nice shower. Covered porch was good for relaxing and we had a fire in the fire pit our first night, which was so nice. We have a lot of respect for the late Governor, so seeing his gravesite along the waking trail was meaningful. Lots of privacy but close enough to go to Tallahassee or Thomasville in a fairly short time. Highly recommend this property if you like this environment - it’s worth it!

About the host

Hosted by Bud Chiles

Host profile image
Bud and Kitty Chiles inherited Jubilee Plantation when Governor Chiles passed away. We planted and cultivated forty acres, about 125,000 bushes of organic blueberries over the past 8 years. We are thrilled to have thousands of families visit Jubilee to pick our fruit and now to enjoy weekends in our vintage cabins.

Why they chose this property

Jubilee Plantation is a wonderful example of best practice growing and land management. We have been awarded the distinction of outstanding environmental stewardship by the Florida farm Bureau. It is truly a gorgeous 210 acre Red Hills Plantation.

What makes this property unique

Jubilee is surrounded by 15,000 acres of conserved land, Red Hills Quail Plantations, but only 15 miles from downtown Tallahassee, and downtown Thomasville Ga, the best downtown in all of South Georgia! The property is tranquil and restive, teeming with birdlife and biodiversity, and carefully managed for climate stewardship.
