Cabin 8 Retreats on Big Portage Lake: Unit A: Shared Game Room included!

Welcome to the perfect cabin getaway! This two-bedroom, 525 square foot, cabin has all of the amenities you need to simply relax and enjoy everything that cabin life has to offer. Our cabin is directly located on Big Portage Lake in Backus, Minnesota. We are only minutes away from the Paul Bunyan State Trail and miles and miles of state land to explore. Cabin A has a large deck with wonderful views of the lake along with numerous amenities to truly make you feel at home. Our mission is to give you a carefree vacation with all the trimmings, included a shared Game Room. We work to make sure that we think of everything from kitchen utensils to lawn games. Enjoy our high speed internet, explore the Portage Chain Lakes, or just sit back and sip our provided coffee, enjoying the sights of nature.

Inquire about our additional amenities available for rent as well, including our SSV-16 Lund Fishing boat, paddle boards, kayaks, ebikes, and Bote Inflatable dock.We do have a one room bunk house for rent as well. The last few pictures feature the bunkhouse. Please note that the dock, game room and other amenities are not available from late October until May!

Hosts were amazing to work with and responded to any questions we had about the property or things to do in the area. The house is adorable and we enjoyed playing games and fishing in the downtime after spending our days at the High School Rodeo. Hoping we can stay again next time we are in town!!

Great place for a fall getaway up north!

Just got back from a 3 day stay at this cute little cabin up north... It was fantastic for my family of 3 plus a dog for a long, relaxing, and fun MEA weekend. My 5 year old son loved the bunk beds, the place was set up for everything we needed, and the host was great with pre-arrival communication. Would definitely come back again!

Property was just as advertised! Very clean, nice little cabin that was perfect for my wife and I. Host was very responsive and willing to assist with all questions. We will certainly be renting again.

Great location and lots of fun!

We enjoyed our stay here. It was around an hour to Itasca state park and about 30 minutes to Walker. We went to Longville on Wednesday for turtle racing and had a blast. We enjoyed hearing loons calling while we watched the sunrise over the lake. The only issue we had was a neighbor by the boat launch yelled at us because our kids were throwing rocks in the lake.

Perfect getaway!!

We had an amazing vacation at Cabin 8 Retreats!! The property was beautiful and so clean! All of the amenities that we would have needed were provided, and the owners were so quick to respond if we needed anything or had any questions. The location was perfect with a beautiful view of the lake. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a beautiful getaway on the lake!!

Moondance Weekend

This was a wonderful, clean, cutely decorated cabin to rent. We had four adults and there was room for all of us. The lake has a lot of vegetation and there are no jet skis allowed but it’s very quiet and peaceful.

Thought of everything…….

My family and I have just returned from an awesome weekend at this cabin. As soon as we pulled into and drove down the dirt road to the cabin we were taken in by the beauty and peacefulness of the lake, the trees and the green lawns. Upon entering the cabin, we noticed it was so clean, fully stocked and a fun brightly colored layout. Just the right size for my family of 4 adults and 2 young ones. All we really needed to bring was food and drink. Fun times were had by riding on the cool 2 seater vintage pontoon paddle boat, taking a dip on the beach just a short walk down, playing the many yard games on the open lawn while the pups watched and played, playing cards on the beautiful deck (furnished with newer no maintenance furniture) while looking at the sunset and a nice fire burning near by. We will most definitely be looking into coming back ! 5 stars!

Cabin 8 Retreats is named after "Cabin 8." This was the numbered cabin where I always stayed as a child in a nearby (now closed) resort. I decided to purchase and rent out this cabin as a tribute to the memories that I have there. I want to help others build and create lasting, meaningful memories that will linger for a lifetime. Cabins are a way to escape our everyday life and leave our worries behind. It is my goal to provide that perfect getaway for you and your family.
