About the property

Cottage, 1 Bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

This exquisite Asian jewel is set in beautiful, peaceful, private gardens with a large pond. Gorgeous custom-made furniture, Bose surround-sound, spa-like glass block shower. Quiet, clean, radiant heat under bamboo floor warms the soul and feet. A truly inspiring space with tons of architectural details. Quarter of a mile walk over sand dunes (50 yards away) offers unique access to shoreline of Ten Mile beach and river in the Fort Bragg sunbelt. Because this section of beach is only by private access, it's relatively deserted. Many guests choose to come for a solo retreat. There's a deck and props for yoga, a firepit with wood provided, and a barbeque with charcoal provided. 40 bird species within a one mile radius of the cottage.

Come, relax, unwind, decompress from the city and reenergize your spirit!

Sleep in comfortable queen Flo-Bed (latex) with the surf as a lullaby and birds as your alarm. Four state parks nearby for kayaking, canoeing, hiking etc. Fort Bragg and Mendocino shops and restaurants 10 to 20 minutes respectively. Lost Coast 30 min. north of Westport.

Sorry, no pets.

Licensed massage therapist available on-site by reservation

About Lindsay

I'm a 34 year resident of Fort Bragg- all that time practicing as a psychotherapist but now retired. My other occupation is tending my Japanese garden! I love walking on the virtually deserted dunes and stretch of Ten Mile beach. All my guests comment on the serene, peaceful feeling of the property and the attention to detail. I live in the main house on the property.

Lindsay purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Lindsay chose North Coast

I custom built the cottage originally for friends to enjoy when visiting.

What makes this cottage unique

Peace, quiet, beautiful natural surroundings and easy access to a little used stretch of the beach. 40 bird species within a one mile radius of cottage.

Rejuvenating!

  • 5 of 5

I was hoping the pictures didn't make it look better than it was. When we showed up we were more than pleased, we actually just stood there and said "ahhhh!" The pictures are wonderful but still do not do this place justice. The attention to every detail to make the space tranquil is amazing...inside and out. From the bamboo ceilings and radiant heat flooring to the outside walkways and gardens. We are already planning to go again...and again!

Serene Sanctuary / Peaceful and Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

I have a little laundry list of perfect vacation rental specs: well-appointed housing, rural, lovely views, quiet, very clean, close to nature / hiking / outdoor activities. The Zen Jewel is all of this in spades. I've recommended this cottage to many friends who are looking for a place to unplug and chill out.

This is the second time I've stayed at the Zen Jewel--I take an annual retreat by myself & this is an IDEAL cottage if you are looking for peace, quiet and serenity. Huge windows look out onto the mature Japanese garden that Lindsay has been cultivating for decades, a 5-minute walk to the sand dunes, lots of privacy and quiet.

For those who don't want to hole up in a mountain cabin, the cottage is a 5-mile drive to Fort Bragg, so amenities are not far, but far enough away to feel removed when you're at the cabin. A few miles north, there are places to park along the road with great ocean views and access (if you don't want to hike through the dunes).

Lindsay is a lovely host--incredibly hospitable, while at the same time very respectful of privacy. I highly recommend the Zen Jewel and look forward to returning again...

Absolute Serenity....Perfect in Every Way

  • 5 of 5

I almost hate to write a glowing review as I feel like we have found a hidden secret. We spend our 22nd anniversary here and it was an amazing experience. The garden was perfect in every way and obviously well thought out. The cottage was perfectly sized and had everything we needed and was immaculate. The bed was super comfortable and the whole cottage just beckons you to relax and unwind. You can stop looking and just book this, yes it's really that perfect. Our only disappointment is that we did not stay longer. We will be back again hopefully very soon. Thank you Lindsay for opening your oasis to all of us. It was truly an amazing experience and one that we will not forget.

Very detailed and lovely contemplative environment.

  • 5 of 5

A place where my intimate and I could truly relax and "drop out" in a very contemplative space. This we noticed because we talked less, ate less and and even found we were thinking less. Then we knew we had truly relaxed.

Thank you Lindsay for providing such a peaceful place. We will be back.

Don't pass this up!

  • 5 of 5

The location and the host are the best. Other reviewers have captured so much that is charming and tranquil about this property, and it truly is. The design of the cottage is wonderful. Wood workers and finish carpenters will marvel at the details. Landscapers and gardeners will love the grounds around the house. The pond and the trees that are just out the back door draws in bird. Hikers can step right out the front door to walk through the dunes and down to a miles-long sandy beach preserve. The small kitchen is well equipped for small meals to eat on the porch. The outdoor fire pit and BBQ are a great addition. If you like to BBQ, don't miss the old-fashion and locally sourced meat market a few miles away in Fort Bragg. Also, be sure to check out the specialty market for locally baked bread and all sorts of foodie stuff. Finally, be sure to check out Cowlick's Ice Cream in Fort Bragg--it is habit forming.

Absolutely Mesmerizing Wedding Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Lindsay is an amazing host. The day we arrived she greeted us and showed us the the general layout of her extremely beautiful home and gardens. She has done a fantastic job with the relaxed feel of the place. The home was cozy and had everything we needed!

My two bridesmaids and I got ready here on the morning of my wedding and we couldn't have asked for a more serine setting.

My husband and agree that the best part had to be sitting on the deck at night enjoying the stars and the Milky Way!! The night sky is beautiful from the back porch!! We never had time for a bonfire, but we wish we had!

All in all, if you are looking for the most relaxing location, with the most beautiful Japanese gardens right in your backyard (dipping pond included!) this is the tranquil gem you are looking for!!

Thank you Lindsay!!

Love,

Jacob and Robin Z.
