Why The Owner chose Door County

My husband's family owned a home on Kangaroo Lake where he grew up vacationing during the summer. We spent years trying to find a property where our children could grow up enjoying the same simple pleasures of Door County, and were thrilled to finally find a home with such a stunning expansive yard, beautiful views, and amazing access to the lake for swimming and boating.

What makes this house unique

The house is located close to all of the beautiful and quaint towns of Door County, but you could also easily come for an extended stay and be content staying just at the house--grilling and eating out on the built-in table on the deck overlooking the water; swimming in the lake; canoeing in the still water of early morning or late afternoon; playing in the yard; or sitting in the living room enjoying the views and the changing colors of the days and the season.

Absolutely terrific place to stay (with 2 quirks)

  • 5 of 5

My family and a couple of friends stayed here over the 4th of July week and I have to say that we had an amazing week there. The trip was so great, we are considering asking about availability for next year, too. The house has a well manicured, large yard with a great setting right on Kangaroo Lake (which is an incredibly peaceful lake by the way). Lots of space to play ball with my son and the fire pit is in a really nice spot right down by the water. The house is well taken care of and spacious and the giant windows in the living room make for a great view throughout the day. So, on to the two quirks with the house. First, one of the people with us had specifically noted that she needed an internet connection because she was going to be working from the house for a couple of days of the stay. We confirmed that the house did indeed have internet before our stay. When we got there though, we found that the internet connection was so slow and that the router required so many reboots throughout the week to maintain a connection of any kind that it really is not worth advertising that it has internet. This really was not a deal breaker for us, as our smartphones all were able to be used as hotspots for the one person who needed internet to get a solid connection; that was quirk #1. Quirk #2 was the bathroom/shower in the master bedroom. Please note that the tub is installed in the floor and there is a handheld shower available, but climbing in and out of the tub can be a bit tricky and the tub really isn't conducive to taking a proper shower. It does work though. The main bathroom does have a shower though. Neither the internet situation or the shower/tub configuration was annoying enough to detract from the fact that this place is great and my family and friends had a truly great time staying here and we would absolutely consider staying there again in the future.

Lovely lake, lovely house

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this kangaroo lake house in August 2016 - It was our first trip to door county. We weren't sure what to expect but were so happy we stayed on the "qiet" side of the lake. The home has an incredible view to the water, and the water is soft and sandy and shallow. We brought our paddle boards and we all enjoyed paddle boarding all over the lake - It's very quiet. I think we only heard one or two boats all week! The fire pit is beautifully situated, and we had a great time star gazing and caught the persied meteor shower!!!

The home itself is lovely - there is a large well equipped kitchen. We ate many of our meals out on the deck which has a big picnic table that could accommodate all of us. We used the bikes and the canoe that were available which was a very nice convenience to have. We also put together MANY of the puzzles and played lots of games (and watched the olympics on the wide screen tv.) .

Best of all you are just a quick jaunt to the beautiful beaches and all the restaurants on the other side of thepeninsula! There is so much to do in door county and we found this quiet lovely lake house to be the prefect place to land after a busy day out and about in DC.

Thanks to Lara and Jon for their hospitality!

Perfect House in a Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at this property for a week in June. The weather cooperated most days, but despite some rainy days the house more than made up for it in terms of comfort and activities for our family. There were 4 adults and two children ages 8 and 10. The dock and depth of the lake make it perfect for swimming. The water is shallow and clear so the kids were more than happy to jump in (and again we didn't have perfect weather for it). The property has a canoe that was easy to use to go paddling around the lake and for fishing. My son caught several good size bass and a crappie.

The house design is just right for anyone looking for space when you want to retire to your room or meet for time together in the great room. The kitchen is spacious and well stocked with anything you could possibly need during your stay.

The owners were easily reachable and extremely helpful whenever we called. The house has a notebook with clear instructions on how to use all of the amenities. You are a stone's throw from Bailey's Harbor and Lake Michigan, but also secluded enough on the property to feel like you are a world away. We loved the location of the property being a quick drive to any of the places we wanted to visit, such as The Farm, Fish Creek, and Egg Harbor.

As I said, we had a few rainy days, but we were totally entertained by the board games and toys in the house. It really is perfect for families. We had my father who is over 60, my brother who is in his thirties, and again my two boys who had a blast playing with all of the toys in the house. When they wanted downtime there is wifi for their electronics and satellite TV.

I would highly recommend this property to anyone for any kind of vacation...there are plenty of supplies for outdoor enthusiasts (bikes, canoe, paddle boats etc)...family vacations, girl's weekends...just a great property with a great layout and location. We couldn't be happier!
