5 star house/2 star furnishings & location

Where do I begin…this house is beautiful with an amazing river view and good bones such as wood floors, granite and gourmet kitchen but the lack of attention to detail makes it a big NO for me. We have rented lots of houses from VRBO but never one without reviews, I knew better. No reviews and lack of pictures nor detail in the listing should have been my red flag. Correspondence with host was minimal. Had to ask for check in instructions when still hadn’t received them 45 minutes prior to arrival time. At this price point, especially for sharing the bottom half of the house with other renters, one should expect so much more. There is no AC in Montana, we were there the first week of August when temps were in the 90’s. We arrived to a hot house that the thermostat read 82. There are NO ceiling fans nor free standing fans. We were told to open the windows to cool the house off. That might work for most houses around here but since this house sits right on the road, you hear loud diesels passing by all day and night. Good luck sleeping, both rooms face the loud highway and the mattresses are terrible!!! That’s an understatement really, there are uneven dips all throughout the master bed. Bed needs new mattress with a box spring under it to prevent the warping. When I asked the host about the awful bed, he said slats were under the mattress before we arrived insinuating we did something with them… we flew there, what could we have done with them?? No nightstands to put your belongings on. 2 small cheap chairs on back deck. Deck is huge and could be so nice with nice furniture such as dining table, comfortable chairs and umbrella to block afternoon sun. Coffee pot is small and cheap, 5 cups and does not keep the coffee hot. More towels, bathroom rugs, blow dryer and throw blankets would be nice. Owners have furnished this house with the cheapest furniture possible. Again, for this price point, absolutely unacceptable. House is 35 minutes to W Yellowstone where there are many shops, restaurants and entrance to the park. The other direction about 40 minutes is Ennis, small grocery store and dollar store. Get supplies before you come. Close neighbors on both sides of the house, to the right being an RV park. Thankfully it was mostly empty but could create a noise problem if full, along with being unappealing to look at. We loved our visit to Yellowstone and the Tetons but wish we would have picked a better rental to come home to.
