Imagine watching the reflection on a lake of an orange sun rise over a wooded hill; You breathe in the aroma of the towering pines that is quintessential Maine and decide to walk the trail along the 1000 feet of marshland and then explore the marked trails on 15 acres of woods: Welcome to Isla’s Will; A cottage at the end of a private child safe road, tucked in the woods just 20 feet from the water’s edge.

A lake house like no other, Isla’s Will sits at the beginning of a 15 acre National Wildlife Refuge. Explore the walking trails along a marsh, bog and eventually a stream, picking blueberries along the way if the season is right. You will re-enter the world relaxed and refreshed.

Spend your days diving off your private swim float, then eat lunch at the picnic table or deck. Fish off the dock, explore the nearby winery or catch a movie if the weather is inclement.

Top off the day with a camp fire toasting s’mores on the fire pit.

Waterfront Amenities: There is 100 feet of direct lake front and an additional 1000 feet along the marsh. There are 3 steps with a railing to a sandy bottom waterfront. Ideal for the young or elderly. The water temperature for the top 18 inches is 70 degrees by the end of June.

As part of a private association, Isla’s Will offers 2 other swimming venues in addition to your own private lake front. There is also a boat launch facility and a private 20 foot dock where 2 kayaks and a canoe are available for your use only (a $700 rental value). Loons, turtles and ducks will be your constant water companions.

Cottage Amenities: Beds for 7 plus the possibility of two more using the pull out sofa in the living room ($100 more per person over 6). Queen bed in master bedroom, twin beds in loft. First floor bedroom has a double in the lower bunk bed and a single up.

The gourmet galley kitchen is fully outfitted (food processor, dish washer, microwave, 2 lobster pots, blender, waffle and crepe maker etc) has Pergo floors and hand painted tile backsplash. There is an unusually large kitchen table with 2 leaves that has room for 6 chairs. Additional seating with 2 bar stools at the breakfast nook. Both bedrooms and family room have wall to wall carpet. Loft has highly varnished original pine boards.

Other amenities include: High Speed Internet, Box fans, air conditioning and a ceiling fan in the family room, DVD player, CD player, washer and dryer, cable TV, family games, life jackets, over 300 family videos and DVDs to choose from. Picnic table.

Area Highlights: While very private, the location is not remote. A local winery is 2 miles away. Windham's Fun Park with go carts, sky swing and mini golf, movie theater and mall are 15 minutes in one direction while Naples with a game arcade, old fashioned ferry ride around Long Lake, miniature golf and water sports is 15 minutes in the other direction.

Day trips under 2 hours: Portland is a great walking city from which you can tour the outer Maine islands via the mail boat. Freeport and North Conway for outlet shopping, Maine Wildlife Park in Gray or Sabbathday Shaker Village in New Gloucester is the last active Shaker village in the US. Hike any variety of mountains including Shawnee Peak in Bridgton where there is a wonderful park along a stream, antique shops and art galleries to browse or nearby Hacker’s Hill with mesmerizing views of Sebago Lake in one direction and Thomas Pond in the other.

About the lake: Thomas Pond covers 533 acres and has a maximum depth of 64 feet. It is about 1 mile long and a mile wide with nooks and crannies to explore. Very quiet and private; a 30 second walk through the woods brings you to a quiet shallow and sandy cove, just for a change in venue from your own waterfront. The surface temperature of the water in the summer is 78 degrees. There are 14 different kinds of fish living in the pond including: Brook and Brown trout, white and yellow perch as well as bass. In 1989, the largest smallmouth bass ever caught in Maine came from Thomas Pond. In the morning you can see the fish from your bedroom window.

Yard Amenities: A private lot is extremely rare in the Lakes Region. Being at the end of a cul de sac provides opportunities to play catch, soccer or street hockey. Children will enjoy playing in our pesticide/herbicide-free yard. Lots of potted flowers and perennial beds with garden ornaments give the feel of a bed and breakfast. An herb garden is yours for culinary experimentation. Book lovers take notice. We have a large assortment of books for children and adults with topics to please all tastes.

Fine Print: Rental includes light cleaning service after check out.

$500 security deposit non refundable after March if unable to rent the week, is due to hold reservation. Maine 9% hospitality tax will be added to your invoice.

About Mary Davis

We are avid cooks, gardeners and readers which the cottage reflects. Our intent was to create an atmosphere less hotel chic and more cozy bed and breakfast. Rooms display original oil paintings and whimsy. Every care was given to ensure that your vacation will be a dream vacation.

Mary Davis purchased this house in 1999

Why Mary Davis chose Sebago Lake

My husband went to camp in this area and has fond memories of his summers here. We sent our son to camp on Panther Pond. This location is a gem and we bought it on the spot - not setting a foot off the property until a P&S was signed. For privacy and convenience in this area, it has no peer. The cottage is named Isla's Will and can be seen on you tube by typing in that name. Interior shots available.

What makes this house unique

Sunrises and mist rising off the lake make for a magical moment. The call of the loons throughout the day remind you of the beauty of nature, tranquility and simplicity. The smell of the pine forest is the best aromatherapy that I know of. House is 20 feet from lake which can not be duplicated with today's environmental laws. 15 acres of walking trails will not be found in any other listing on vrbo and ensures a private vacation experience.

Perfect Spot for Healing

  • 5 of 5

When I first drove up the country, shaded, secluded street and looked down at the cottage with the lake in the background, surrounded by large trees with the scent of pine in the gentle breeze, I knew this was going to be the perfect getaway spot. The grounds are rustic but well maintained, rich with diverse flora and very picturesque. The cottage is cozy and charming with a homey feel. Just sitting outside on the deck listening to the loons call while watching the moods of the lake is so healing. It's also situated in an excellent location. You are close to US 302 and only 45 minutes from either Portland, ME or North Conway, NH. Although you feel surrounded by nature, convenient shopping is just 10 minutes away. You will enjoy the hiking trails, swimming in the cool, clean lake, bird-watching, checking out the wildlife, fishing from the dock, or kayaking around Thomas Pond. My friends and I look forward to vacationing at this magical spot every year. If you want a peaceful, secluded, natural setting with all of the comforts of home, and the convenience of nearby attractions, then search no more. The only bad thing that I can say about coming here is the day you have to leave.

nature silence

  • 5 of 5

If you want to and find some peace in this world, in early morning come out and just sit on the deck overlooking the water, close your eyes and you will hear only the sounds of nature: water lapping on the rocks, leaves rustling in the trees, a red squirrel scolding you from his nest in the huge tall white pine by your shoulder, then chasing a grey squirrel all over the place, the quaking of ducks passing by just below you, a loons mournful cry for its mate. It is so easy to lose yourself ,the cottage is the best i have been in ,been to 25 in my life time, I have been hesitant to write about this place because it might be taken if I come back but it is so nice I had to comment on the place,I did not go into the various small gardens outside, you will need to go to see them,it was just another touch to make you want to come back.

We loved it here!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 spent last week (first week of August) here at this beautiful location. It was quiet and peaceful and we enjoyed every minute of it. We spent our days floating in the water and kayaking and our nights playing games and watching the Olympics. It was just perfect for family bonding. My teen caught one of the biggest fish he has ever caught (don't ask me what kind because they all look alike to me)! He was pretty happy though.

The owners are very responsive to emails and send plenty of information to help you make the most of your stay.

We were very sad to leave but are already looking forward to coming back next year. <3

ONE of the BEST!!!!

  • 5 of 5

This house is one of the best that we've ever rented. We absolutely loved everything about this place. The owner is very accommodating. The location can't be beat, located on the end of the road with a soft sandy bottom to access the lake. The house is well stocked with every kitchen appliance and gadget you'll need. Tons of activities inside ( games & videos) and out ( kayaking, canoes, fishing, lazing in the shade by the lake). The fishing is great from a kayak or even right off the dock. It's very convenient to shopping and day trips, the sites of Portland, Mount Washington in New Hampshire is less than 2 hours away and Acadia National Park is definitely worth the drive. We would recommend staying here to anyone that wants the true North Woods experience.

This home was everything that was promised and more.Coffee @ sunrise on the front deck listening to nothing but the birds chirping, the call of loons, and your thoughts.I left the camp only once all week to get gas for my boat and a few grocerys,A walking trail made for several scenic walks ,even saw a deer and a couple turkeys one afternoon while walking. It is very well mantained and the herb garden provided a nice touch to several meals.BUT my baby is fishing, this is my second summer stay and the fishing is absolutely fantastic.A friend and I found several hotspots and were treated to 3 and 4lb smallmouth and largemouth bass all week and a few large pickerel a fishermans paradise

Fantastic family lake vacation spot, plus day trips to the Maine coast!

  • 5 of 5

Isla's Will is an absolutely wonderful cottage in a quiet, relaxing location. The owner is excellent to work with and communication is awesome. Our family of four rented this cottage in 2010, 2011, and is coming back in 2012. The Thomas Pond area does not feel like a bustling tourist town which suits our family quite well. The dead-end location is excellent, great for small kids, no cars driving by. Although there are boats and some jet-skis on the pond, it's minimal, preserving the desired private and low-key character. The cottage has a grassy yard, and the adjacent woods keeps the yard and house cool. We can easily park two cars in the driveway.

Inside the cottage, there's plenty of space for four. My in-laws also visited a few nights last year and six people was very comfortable. Two bathrooms makes a big difference to us. The kitchen has everything a cook could need --I've not found it lacking anything. The entrance hosts a washer/dryer behind folding doors and space for our tote bags of beach towels, shoes, etc. The master bedroom is private with a nice lake view. Love the back deck to read in the Adirondack chairs! Our two teenagers love the kayaks, and we are comfortable with them exploring out on their own. The floating raft is great for older kids to jump and dive off—we use it a ton. We can fish right off the dock. We bring a couple of tire tubes that are fun for floating and there's room under the back deck to store these and other toys.

When not at the cottage, we take day trips to Portland, Old Orchard Beach, Popham Beach, and Freeport, to name a few. In the past we have been ocean-goers; this location allows us to enjoy the best of both worlds. As a reference, Portland is 35-40 minutes away, great for fabulous restaurants and cool boutiques/shops. Portland also has chain restaurants and a mall. Hiking is not too far away near Freeport: Bradbury Mountain and Wolfe's Neck Woods, where you can see ospreys from the rocky shore trails. Maine Wildlife Park is in Gray (about 25 minutes) featuring native-Maine animals and birds.

Locally, there are chain grocery stores in Raymond, about 7 miles away. Our favorite local restaurant is Buck's Naked BBQ in Windham, and #1 for ice cream is the Mosquito. We also like Seacoast Fun Park for mini-golf and go-karts; more mini-golf in Naples.

I can't say enough about the location, cottage, owners, and pond. I highly recommend it for a relaxing, low-key vacation.
