The Getchell Cottage on the California Coast

This is a serene one bedroom, one bathroom cabin adjacent to the main house which sits on 13 acres - with view of a seasonal creek and redwood trees. It is newly renovated with all of the modern-day conveniences such as heated floors and dishwasher but retain country charm with woodburning fireplace, and Victorian details. The open layout, vaulted ceiling, and streamlined designs provides a bright, spacious feel. The private deck is tranquil, protected from the wind, and a perfect place to unwind.

Guest welcome to explore our 13 acres.

There are wooded areas, limited trails, meadows, and many vistas that offer breath taking views of the ocean.

We ask that our guest respect our bees that reside in the two horse stalls in the red barn.

Across the creek is orchard/garden which is in its infancy. We are working hard to turn it into a food forest. Our guests are welcome to any fruits, produces, and flowers that are growing.

The shared firepit is between the cabin and the garage and has a magnificent view of the ocean.

Fresh eggs are provided for our guest curiosity of beautiful hens.

If you need more eggs, please let us know.

If the chickens are laying, we will be more than happy to share!

Loved our stay!

The cottage was lovely. Beautifully decorated and nice kitchen. Quiet and peaceful. Mary was a warm and welcoming host and we enjoyed her property. Beautiful area and close to lots of beaches. Nice grocery market in Gualala. Enjoyed wine and cheese in the back patio of the cottage.

Memorable week!

I have rented a lot of vacation rentals over the years and this one is definitely one of the best. Lovely, very clean cottage with high-end cookware (everything you would need), comfortable bed, privacy. The hostess Mary was absolutely the best hostess I've ever encountered! So friendly, generous with her time taking me on walks to view the beautiful property, sharing their chicken's fresh eggs and plums from their trees. Ocean views on the property, but nicely protected from the wind. Very quiet and peaceful setting. Thank you Mary and Hermann for sharing your lovely cottage and for making my week so special!

A gem on the Mendocino coast

We're almost hesitant to write this review because we want to keep this place our hidden secret. But our stay at the Getchell Cottage was a fantastic and memorable experience! We were a bit hesitant at first when there were no reviews posted for the rental but we soon found out that the property has hosted many happy guests as were seen in the guest book and online reviews that were wiped due to administrative changes. The home is nestled at the foot of the hills right above the coast on over 10 acres. There are gorgeous views of the surrounding landscape including the beach, various trees and plants, many fruit trees and a seasonal creek. The cottage has been recently renovated with modern, high end appliances and features making it a comfortable stay. The place is very clean with a large bed in the bedroom and pull out sofa bed in the living room (the pull out sofa was surprisingly comfortable too). The wood stove also makes it feel very cozy. The owners were quite thoughtful to include toiletries, endless fresh towels, eggs from their chickens, an extensive spice rack, teas/coffee and so much more. We have an older child and a baby and there were many accommodations for them including baby shampoo, toys, books, a high chair and a pack and play. What made it more special was when we got a tour of the property and saw the early construction of an orchard, fruits and vegetables that we could sample and two tree swings. It's a sizable property to take strolls throughout the day (don't miss the swing with amazing views!) We cooked many times during our stay and the kitchen is fully equipped and there's a propane BBQ in the back; the owners have definitely thought of everything! Gualala is a beautiful town to get away and move at a slower pace and only a 5 minute drive away. There are also plenty of beaches nearby to explore as well. It was a perfect getaway for a long weekend.
