  • peaceful getaway

"The Sea Ranch area is amazing & a really interesting concept which was conceived in the 60's! Really a lot of history to see @ the lodge & endless walking/biking/running trails, none without awesome views! The only reason I didn't give the property 5 stars, was because of a mixup when we arrived; after driving 7+ hours, we pulled into raccoon-strewn garbage & previous tenant's leavings... with that said, we called Gordon & he got Jamie on the job within an hour; we went over to the golf course, had a beer & picked up some local knowledge re: the course. When we returned, 2 hours later, the darling house was perfect. We were just 2, so had some extra room. 5 would be a crowd, although seating, beds & bathrooms for all. Two nice masters w/baths downstairs & daybed upstairs; views from everywhere! Loved the sunshades - perfect for privacy, but still muted views. Hot tub in perfect condition, facing the Pacific. Gualala a really interesting, friendly town. We didn't make it to Point Arena... maybe next time? Definitely recommend the "Lighthouse". Gordon & Judy have made this a relaxing, rejuvenating place to spend time. Loved it"

  • Coastal Beauty

"This is the perfect get-away home to rest, and rejuvenate. The home is clean, comfortable and well stocked for your relaxing experience. Everything is in excellent working order. There is a lovely patio and there are ocean-facing window seats to enjoy the spectacular coastal views from this ocean-front property. The well-maintained hiking trails lead for hours from the property front along the coastline and past beautiful Sea Ranch homes. Along the way there is a recreation center for swimming and tennis, and a harbor seal marine preserve where you watch the pups diving and playing in the ocean just below you. Bring a good book and enjoy a slower pace."

  • Relaxing birthday weekend

"I booked Sea Myst for 3 nights for my 60th birthday with my wife. The home is rustic yet reasonably comfortable, tidy, well provisioned and tastefully decorated. The hot tub, and heating work well and the master bedroom bed is very comfortable with the hi quality linens making crawling in wonderful. We felt that the Master BR flat screen is too far from the bed for comfortable viewing and could just as easily be mounted in a fold down on the middle beam at the foot of the bed. However there is a huge new screen in the LR. We ended up watching films (good wifi signal only got wacky during the peak of the storm) on the laptop. We arrived on the first really cold rainy weekend, and discovered there was no wood for the fireplace and the top oven was inoperative requiring the birthday cake to go in the lower oven which didn't reach proper heat and took 2 hours to bake coming out like hard biscotti. From talking to the owner upon discovering this, he explained that the kitchen was original 1972 and a remodel was coming. Both would have been important to know going in as our intent was not to move the car once we parked until we left so I didn't drive out to get firewood or find a repairman for the oven. Luckily we brought a bunch of chinese takeout that lasted us the entire time. The second BR in one side of a converted garage and is best suited for responsible children who you won't mind sharing your bathtub with as it only has a half bath adjacent to it. It would be somewhat awkward for two adult couples, I think. Be careful with the locks on the second BR because they could get locked in. That could be a safety hazard if someone can't get out. The location is the best feature of Sea Myst. Walking to the beach and bluffs is at the end of the street and was our main reason for selecting it. The owners have plenty of amenities, rain coats, bikes, games, umbrellas flashlights and extensive library of books. It was fun looking at Scientific American issues from 1964 in the cozy loft. Although the LR couch sectional is new it isn't the kind of piece that was easy to sink into cozily with a book and a beverage for an afternoon. It was hard to feel really comfortable on it. Overall the time went by way too fast. With an updated and fully functional kitchen and attention to the change in the seasons this place would rate five stars."
